    New TV!

Congrats and I know what you're talking about. My best friend bought a Sony XBR4 with 120Hz and motion-thingy and when its switched on everything looks so odd. I'm so used to having more of a jerky picture when the camera pans back and forth. On animated movies its a cool feature but on live action its just odd. I noticed that on movies that have live action and special effects in the same shot the special effects look a lot less realistic for some reason. I think we watched 10,000 BC and the scene where they're running around with the mammoths looks like they're running in a cartoon.
  2. Having had RF-25s, RF-7s, Forte IIs and KLF-30s in my house at various times I have to say that I like the sound of a 3-way speaker much better (Forte and KLF) than 2-way (Reference). I guess the $200 more than the RF-3 would depend on the asking price of each. If you're talking $300-400 for RF-3 and $500-600 for KLF-20, that's in the ballpark. Much higher than that and they better be mint condition or a rare veneer. Having the front three speakers match is huge. In either event, I'd sell your KSP-C6 and buy a KLF-C7 if you go the KLF route or an RC-3 if you go the RF route. Expect to pay a LOT more for a KLF-C7 than any RC-3 variation. You can always try the C6 with either speaker first and see what you think. Some members here have had decent success mixing and matching different series of front mains and center speakers. At least they'll all say Klipsch on them. [Y]
  3. Obviously you have to factor shipping costs in there. It seems that $300 is what several on that list are charging for shipping. If they were picked up locally that's a different story but $300 is a lot to tack onto the actual item's cost.
  4. Do you need to get in ceiling speakers? If you did get some, I think you'd be just fine with the lesser expensive speakers Ideally the surround speakers in a 5.1 configuration would be placed beside your listening position either on the walls or on stands. Would in-wall speakers on the side walls be an option?
  5. I believe the Synergy floorstanding series was available in cherry finish for the Canadian market.
  6. As long as you only need a two channel receiver it would be great. Also, just to let you in on a little secret, I bought my TX-SR805 through http://www.shoponkyo.com They have factory refurbished TX-8555s for $199 with free shipping. Also, when you first sign up you're given 10 points that count as $10 towards your first purchase = $189 total with factory warranty. I haven't had a single problem with my 805 and even though the outer box said the receiver might have small cosmetic blemishes mine was in perfect condition.
  7. Days like that are fun aren't they?
  8. Got the cable today, man monoprice makes some decent cables on the cheap! I removed my other cables/adapters/etc and hooked up the monoprice cable. After turning the amp on I was very pleased to not hear the loud hum that I was hearing before. Not able to do an A/B comparison with source material or swapping the old cords back on but to my ears the bass seemed to sound tighter, better overall.
  9. You can run your RF-7s from full range on up to a 200Hz low end cutoff. Just go into your 805's menu where you can adjust the crossover settings for each speaker. If you want to run your RF-7s full range (or Full Band as Onkyo calls it) just select that and then select Double Bass to On and it will also send bass information to your subwoofer.
  10. I've had a couple different Cambridge Audio CD players and can say they sounded the least digital of any CD player I've owned - nice smooth and dynamic sound.
  11. It really isn't any different than raising the gain control on the sub. And louder will always be perceived to sound better.
  12. Use your KLF-C7 and sell your RC-3II. I can think of absolutely no one that would recommend running two center speakers that are completely different from each other using a receiver's single center speaker output.
  13. I'd go with RF-10s. Also, your surround speakers should be to the side of your main listening position and not behind you unless you're using a 7.1 setup.
  14. Celebrities who share your birthday: Enrique Iglesias (1975) Darren Hayes (1972) Robert M. Hensel (1969) Melissa Gilbert (1964) Toni Tennille (1943) Peter Benchley (1940) Rick Nelson (1940) Don Rickles (1926) Bishop Fulton Sheen (1895) Harry S. Truman (1884)
  15. I'm lovin' mine. Incredibly powerful.
  16. Yes. Anytime you have two speakers playing exactly the same material interesting things happen with the sound, comb filtering being one of them. Its really not a good idea.
  17. I'm pretty sure a passive woofer won't work in a ported box. Its an either/or situation, passive woofer or port. The point of a passive woofer is to move in and out with the movement of the active woofer and a port will vent air causing the passive woofer to do little if anything.
  18. We've had tons of snow and cold this winter but fortunately not much ice.
  19. If you look above the area where you're typing a post you'll see it says "Compose" "Options", etc. Click on "Options" and then click on Add/Update and then it'll let you find the .PDF file on your hard drive to post.
  20. Aww, he spilled his frappucino.
  21. Right now its 9 and mostly cloudy. This Saturday might be the only day this month that we've been above freezing!
  22. Well, I ordered the cord from monoprice. Cost less than $20 shipped for a 25 foot male RCA to male XLR cord. I think this will be a nice upgrade over what I have now: Extremely cheap single male to dual female Y splitter, extremely cheap 15 foot unshielded RCA interconnect, dual male to male RCA adapters, 3 foot Monster RCA interconnect, RCA to XLR adapter. So there's 5 cords and adapters in my current configuration compared to the one cord that I'll be getting. [:$]
  23. I had a Harman/Kardon two channel integrated amp and added a Rotel two channel power amp using the H/K as a pre. I didn't notice a difference in sound quality, rather a difference in sound quantity. When I bought a Rotel pre-amp I noticed a huge difference in sound quality. I think a pre-amp makes a much bigger sound quality difference than the amp does.
  24. My power amp for my subs only has XLR inputs.
