  1. If you're already looking to upgrade you should really do yourself a favor and get the F3 and C3 and at least the S1 if not the S2 or S3 as surrounds. I would highly recommend the Sub-12. I guarantee you will be putting your Sony subs on the curb with a big 'FREE' sign on them afterwards.
  2. As far as the every word capitalized thing, many internet forums and other programs automatically do that if someone types an entire entry in all capital letters. It does look weird but its better than shouting in all caps.
  3. Well, I guess you could start by telling us exactly what the problem is? Are you getting no picture? No sound? Both? I'm looking at a picture of the back of your unit and it looks pretty self-explanatory as far as where the HDMI ins and outs go.
  4. I don't know, spending some time on the website and seeing all the spelling mistakes and snake-oil like claims from their various products is reason enough for me never to spend my hard earned money with them.
  5. 1) Hook them up to your favorite amp 2) Locate your favorite bass-heavy CD or LP 3) Turn the volume up to 11 4) Enjoy your dust-free Forte woofers
  6. I believe in order to do a Best Offer setup it has to be a buy-it-now only listing and not a regular auction format, so there wouldn't be any reserve price involved.
  7. I should have kept a copy of the craigslist ad for the Forte IIs I bought in the same condition as the ones you're looking at for $275. Might help with leverage if you're trying to talk someone down!
  8. How many do you need? I have one that's yours for free if you want it - its brand new.
  9. Yes, turn the Sub-10's crossover switch to 120Hz or whatever the highest is that it will go. As was mentioned, play some bass heavy music and sit where you normally would to listen to your system. Have someone switch back and forth between 0 and 180 on the phase and use whichever one has more bass output. If both positions sound basically the same leave it at 0.
  10. Thanks for the post! I already have seen the Dave Matthews one, didn't like it that much personally. I'd love to check out David Gilmour and John Mayer.
  11. I have my Quartet sitting sideways on a stand angled upwards and it sounds very good that way.
  12. Do you not hear anything as far as audio? All Blu-Ray discs still will have an audio track that will play through any receiver even if the receiver doesn't support the newest formats. Like was said, make sure your PS3 is outputting sound via PCM, not Bitstream.
  13. That's going to be very subjective, however I'll give my experience: I had a pair of RF-7s and then ran across a deal on a pair of near mint Forte IIs for $275. Couldn't pass that up! I set both pairs of speakers up and did an A/B comparison between them and the Fortes won out. I loved the sound of the horn midrange, seemed to have much more midrange detail and clarity. Of course, there is a difference in sound between RF-82s and RF-7s just like there's a difference in sound between original Fortes and Forte IIs but that's my experience.

  15. He did buy supper for me and his mom and dad. Free bacon cheeseburger and fries out of the deal! He's really in a bind, recently divorced, limited visitation with his kids, not much money. I'm sure if he had money he would have given me something for helping him. I really didn't mind helping him, it just turned out to be a lot more work than I was prepared for. I'm the shoulder he literally cried on when everything with his now ex-wife started going down. I don't have any doubts that he would have done the same for me. That's what friendship is all about. 16. Hey bro, You would really regret the RC-62 with your Fortes. Properly set up the RC-62 is a superb center speaker. But, if you mix it with your Fortes the difference in sound will stick out like a sore thumb. If you really want the RC-62 you'd want to think about selling your Fortes and replacing them with RF-62s or RF-82s. That's not something I'd personally recommend, especially since I'm partial to the Forte II sound (I had a pair of RF-7s and after doing a side-by-side A/B comparison I preferred the sound of the Fortes over the RF-7s).
  17. I've done more than my share of similar things. Case in point: I promised my best friend I'd help him move on Sunday. He said I'd be in charge of making sure his huge TV, KLF-30s and all his electronics were moved safely. That turned into me standing inside an open semi trailer for 5 hours in 25 degree temperatures single-handedly arranging and lifting all his furniture, boxes, EVERYTHING, into the semi trailer. Filled the entire trailer with his stuff! I then drove his Suburban with a trailer on it about an hour to where he was moving, helped him bring in his TV and electronics and speakers. Started the day at 2:30pm and didn't get home until 1:30am, went to work from 8:30am to 9pm today. Needless to say, the old back was a little sore today and I was exhausted!
  18. +1. Future-proof to any Blu-Ray firmware upgrade, decodes lossless formats internally so any receiver that accepts PCM over HDMI will be able to take advantage of the lossless Blu-Ray audio formats, incredibly fast load times...too many positives to list.
  19. So to paraphrase what the above poster said [] try turning the gain level down on the sub and re-running it. If you read any of the official Onkyo threads on the AVSForum that's one of the most frequently discussed items. And as others have said, if it really bothers you, simply raise the levels. After I ran my Audyssey setup I simply raised everything so that whatever speaker was the least efficient was at the 0.0dB mark and the others were set lower depending on their initial readings. So if my center speaker was originally set to -6.0dB and my side surrounds were set to -2.0dB then I adjusted the settings so that my center speaker was at -4.0dB and my side surrounds were at 0.0dB. I didn't like the fact that I had to turn the volume level up so high either. For me it was a psychological thing. Then again, I never listen to anything with the volume set at an odd number unless it ends in 5. [:S]
  20. I have that on DVD and was thinking about getting the Blu-Ray version from NetFlix to do a comparison.
  21. Well, back then my parents had a 19" TV that had a speaker that would probably start distorting at about the 70dB level so I can't comment on the audio quality of the 80s version. [:S]
  22. Come on, you know that if it came out on Betamax with a matching soundtrack on vinyl you'd be all over it.
  23. Differences in audio are hard to describe. There was LFE where there was either no LFE or very little on the HD-DVD version. I just watched the movie on HD-DVD last Sunday with a friend and have probably watched the movie at least a half dozen other times. Metal on metal contact during the fighting scenes and bullets hitting metal sounded exactly like they would sound in real life. I should do an A/B comparison with both versions running at the same time and switch back and forth between them. And Todd, if you want me to mail me my Blu-Ray copy to keep for a few days I'd be cool with that. Otherwise you should check out the Best Buy near you and see if they have any left for $9.99. Someone mentioned that Amazon was selling them for that price as well.
  24. I've owned the HD-DVD version of Transformers ever since it came out several months ago. Tonight after work I picked up the Blu-Ray copy of it because Best Buy had it on sale for $9.99. I figured I'd see if there were any differences in sound or picture quality. Picture: To me looks basically the same. My Toshiba player outputs 1080i compared to my PS3's 1080p. The picture on both discs is incredible. Sound: Played the initial helicopter landing/transformation and could tell right away there was a huge difference in LFE information. Fast-forwarded it to the end of the movie, specifically the Ironside flip scene. UNBELIEVABLE. UNBELIEVABLE. The bass was so much louder, deeper and tighter sounding. No comparision, Blu-Ray wins the audio contest hands down. Explosions, gunshots and other LFE information was so much more realistic. Detail and clarity of treble information was noticeably better as well. The HD-DVD is recorded in Dolby Digital Plus and the Blu-Ray is recorded in Dolby TrueHD.
