  1. Is this mainly for current production speakers or would discontinued speakers like my Forte IIs qualify?
  2. Considering that I currently have a two channel setup (and probably will keep it that way for a long time) I can say with confidence that I didn't upgrade to my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player for the new higher quality surround sound formats. I am of the opinion that picture quality makes or breaks a movie/concert just as much as speaker and electronic component quality. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised at the audio difference with the Eagles Farewell Tour on HD-DVD compared to the standard DVD. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly which song it was but I noticed a much more pronounced bass guitar compared to the regular DVD. I've listened to the original DVD release several times and am very familiar with all the songs on it. I haven't had a chance to listen to it at my usual loud level yet but so far what I've heard sounds very, very good. One nice benefit of HD-DVD's increased disc storage capacity is that the concert is on one disc instead of two. BTW, I'm using the Toshiba's L+R analog outputs.
  3. Wow, I didn't realize that the RF-83 and RC-64 have been around for 30 years! [] Its much better to have an amp with too much power than too little. If you pump a true 250w through each of the speakers you're getting I hope you're wearing ear plugs...its gonna be LOUD!
  4. I know for electronic gear its best to play them at room temperature. Maybe the boxes are filled with sawdust and he's planning on packing up and skipping town tomorrow! [] I would open them up and just play some music quietly through them if it were me. On second thought, I'd open 'em up and make 'em scream!
  5. Several mid to high priced Sony laptops come with Blu-Ray drives. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=16154
  6. I just wanted to comment on how clean both of your setups look. Nicely done! srobak, do you have an HD-DVD player? The picture of The Eagles looks really nice. I just ordered the Farewell concert on HD-DVD through half.com.
  7. I was talking to a co-worker about the Avia disc and he said he'd invite me over Sunday to watch the Vikings and to calibrate his TV. Hmm, maybe I could make a job out of this? Classified ad in the newspaper: "HDTV calibration - $50"
  8. I sold my Oppo DV-980H to a friend who recently bought a nice 42" Sony LCD TV. He had been using a $30 Memorex DVD player. He said he could see a huge difference in quality. While we were talking he said that a co-worker of his recently gave him a DVD that had something to do with home theater and TV setup. He went and grabbed it and it was the Avia disc! My friend hadn't ever used it and it still had the color strips and everything in it. I asked if I could borrow it and he said sure. So, looks like I have a project to do for tonight! P.S. We used the Avia disc on his TV and it made a night and day difference in picture quality. I can't wait to use it on my TV!
  9. Midrange sound isn't an RF-7s strong suit since it has two 10" woofers that are trying to reproduce sound from about 30Hz all the way up to 1kHz+. Individuals who have upgraded their RF-7 crossovers have been said to notice the midrange to be more pronounced. You can contact member DeanG about the crossover upgrade.
  10. I'm assuming that in your pic the area below the bathroom part is where your RF-7s and TV is located? If so, I think if you do a search on here and ask most people they wouldn't recommend putting your subwoofer behind you or beside you. Is there room behind your front left RF-7 or along the left wall? Could you put it beside your left sofa?
  11. I see a lot of white van items being sold on the Minneapolis craigslist so apparently they're being sold around here. I'd love to have a run-in with one of the sellers.
  12. Well I got mine back from the Toshiba service center yesterday. GIANT box, they double boxed the original box I sent them along with about a mile of grocery-bag-looking packing material. Looks like a great box I can use if I sell something on eBay! Played Ocean's 13 last night and had zero issues with playback. The picture quality looked amazing. Details on background items like brick walls were so clear I couldn't believe it. I can't wait to watch Shrek 3 and also Transformers and The Eagles Farewall Tour concert!
  13. "This is the kind of get-together that years from now someone will make a caption contest out of."
  14. When I bought my RF-7s used I brought them home in an SUV and in the process of getting them in my house one of the connectors on a woofer came loose and resulted in that woofer not working at all. Going off the advice of everyone on here I took the woofer out and sure enough the wire was loose. Good thing it didn't fry my amp!
  15. Like YamahaSHO said, go into the DVD player's menu and look in there for the audio output settings. There usually is an option to select as far as stereo or 5.1 output. Same holds true for your cable box.
  16. Sorry I didn't post the follow up! It turns out that the room was much bigger than I remembered - good thing I had some efficient speakers! I had several compliments on the music, selection and volume was perfect everyone said. Unfortunately my friend's CD player skipped when the bass notes hit hard so I actually had to turn my SVS off and run the Fortes only. They did a pretty awesome job considering the task at hand. I have another friend getting married April 5th. I haven't offered him my services yet but if I do I'll make sure to use a CD player that can handle some bass beats!
  17. I bought it on the day it was released too. I really like the music, but the lyrics seem overly political and 'save the whales' in their nature. Has anyone else noticed that?
  18. I just received the Parts Express sale catalog and they have a 12" 150 watt powered sub that's something like $130 plus shipping. http://www.partsexpress.com
  19. A pair of Belles sold on my local craigslist for $400, mint condition.

  21. I've enjoyed them on my old Sonic Impact t-amp and my HK 3480 2 channel receiver. It seems that Fortes are more forgiving than other Klipsch speakers are as to what amplification they require.
