1979 Cornwall redo - what a find!
kaiser SET say replied to longdrive03's topic in Technical/Restorations
Awesome work Longdrive, since Moray has the yard work down who's got your chef duties I have a new/old project myself but lack skills and most of all tools for these -
You mean like this?

Sweet, the Rhodium is like the Bughatti of wall plates -

That is funny By Hybrid I mean the preamplifier section of the 300X is tube and the power section is SS. A little light reading http://www.highfidelity.pl/!ev/artykuly/09_04_2007/bat.html which could be accompanied with a "Little Light Music" by Ian "Jethro Tull" Anderson 4Hrs left! They are hard to come by even used http://www.ebay.com/itm/Balanced-Audio-Technology-VK-300x-6922-Version-Excellent-Condition-/201089872850?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item2ed1e3f3d2#ht_720wt_1105

Do people think he's your grandchild? Don't feel sad Joe, mine are 34, 13 and 11. Would not trade a one of them for all the money in the world plus they keep us young

Ditto to what Boxx said Eldon, looks like you and Ms. Christi have an awesome retreat there

I seriously doubt she will go much further but I will keep poking at it. I find the discussion of audio interesting as well. If I can get her into that realm then we can VIGOROUSLY DEBATE what is better or not Hopefully you have created a monster. Years ago my wife would ask me what I was reading when I was here, I would tell her some of the stories from this forum which some are funny, eventually she wanted to know what was going on and joined herself after getting to know some people here. Her reading here got her more into audio, before she just wanted to listen to music. All this led her into going to Hope where she heard a set of speakers she had to have I was shocked but happy, now she really only wants to just listen to music but knows the difference in sound and is not happy with just any sound. This is a good thing because before she would just go along with ideas just to make me happy but not anymore which is a big help. Not only did she join she could hold her own and got right back on to us but we liked that about her. We all loved meeting both of you in Hope and were really happy for y'all when you won the Corns

Funny Love that cabinet A1UC

Well Dave has first hand experience with both the Scout and 2M Black and I'd say the man has a good ear as well. I just love looking at everything that might fall under my budget amount and make myself a short list to comparo of what I like and then read as much up on those as I can especially if I'm unable to see/hear them first hand.
-
Well I've yet to hear the 2M Black Dave but I have heard the Red, Blue (what I'm currently running on my RP-1) and the 2M Bronze and their is a significant upgrade to each but I could be satisfied with the blue all day long. I'm sure the Black is really sweet and I can't wait to hear one. I said the VPI Classic 1 at $2,995.00 with a 2M Bronze at $419.00 fell into the $3.5K range. I'm sure the Scout II with a 2M Black would be the better choice if the cartridge is you first concern. It's all give and take, I just mentioned two options falling into a range.

There is a headphone for every occasion these days. I like in ear if they are CIEM's and have a mic'd control cord cable. Once you get custom fits it's like impossible to go back to plain in-ear models though Love your new HiFi-Mans Joe This is my latest aquisition from JDS labs (CMOY BB V2.03), had it specially built to drive the AKG 702's
-
Yep OldT, I think that is a good choice. I'm for sure more prone to a mass loaded table which is why I'm already saving to upgrade the RP-1 I have on my Klipsch rig. I also like the classic 1 with the 10.5" arm, love long arms, I would consider a Classic 1 with a 2M Bronze in that 3.5K range as well. Don't think USNRET would go wrong with either.

I'm with ya, I was just thrown off buy that original budget post. Best of luck with whatever you decide to go with, I think you can really put together a sweet anaolg player for that
-
OK I'm lost! I thought you said your budget was $1500.00 after selling your current cartridge? Now you are talking a $2400 table without a cartridge
-
Well USNRET, I concur with Larry on this one. I will say I have gotten away from the gimbal swinging weight arms, not for me. Neither my Well-Tempered Amadeus nor my Rega RP-1 have them, I think the RB arms are probably the best bang for the buck in arms but they are not an SME arm either Not sure what kind of deal A1UC is offering you on the classic as it is a very nice table but if not in your $1500.00 range I think I would buy myself the recently price reduced Rega RP-40, sell the Exact cartridge that comes on it in favor of a 2M Black, put a groove tracer sub-platter on it and see what you think. That table comes with the upgraded belt, PSU and the venerable RB-303 arm which being an anniversay edition will hiold it's value (especially after the production run has sold out) in case you end up not liking it. I have a good buddy here who bought one when they first came out and he upgraded from an RP-1 that had the groove tracer on it which he put on his new RP-40 and it is far superior other tables in this range IMHO. I have another buddy in Atlanta with the TT-15 and it's a very nice table (granted as A1UC it is not as good as the classic and why you should see what he's asking for his, I also just got an email that Music Direct has a Demo TT-15 for $1,150.00 if they still have it). Then my ex bosses son bought a Concept which is a TT-15 with different plinth! All kinds of choices just make good financial decisions so if you decide to change you get the best return on your investments.
