  1. Hoping for the best possible outcome. Hang in there John....we are all in your corner.
  2. First oyster roast of the season but I'll be driving so maybe a drink when I get back....... Tried to turn on the heat to take the chill off last night and no response....guess the ignitor on the gas pac is bad. It will be cool in the house tonight. Cheers all.
  3. I have vacumned my copy of Miles Davis' Friday Night At The Blackhawk....cleaned it up good. About 9:00 pm I am going to pop the top on a fresh bottle of Basil Hayden's Kentucky Bourbon....pour myself three fingers.....and lower the Clearaudio virtuoso wood cartridge stylus down on the first groove..... Have one on me gentlemen.
  4. Thanks Charles.....always good to hear from a Dylan fan. When the economy shows signs of life again I may look into the mono reissues. Thanks for the heads up.
  5. Hey Chester where you been? Work sucks here as well. Downsized a 20 year employee about ten days ago. No more to trim at this point but more work for me. One day the worm will turn and this will be a faint memory. I'm ready for that day. Ace will bounce back I have no doubt. The higher ups will come to their senses by Nov.10. Have your favorite and put it on JBs tab.
  6. Bummer Ace. No....the deer was packing this time. Got Winchester with the first shot.....lucky for Chester it was #9 shot. All this on the day the Panthers won a game. Idratherhunt would have seen the ambush a mile away.....Chesters getting slow..... USA wins the Presidents cup again. Pour yourself one and put it on my tab. Cheers.
  7. Zero Dust by Onzow. A little pricey but you can find them on audiogon.com or ebay once in a while. They last a long....long time.
  8. Seems like just a year ago he was having one[:^)]
  9. 86 and humid. A storm came through and is suppose to drop the temp to 70s Sunday. Sput I think fido wants to come in....brrrrr!
  10. Ditto....BigStew. A Stoli martini after a day of feathering the nest. Cheers to all.
  11. Bluesboy and I could help you out seti. He has a drill and I have an old vacumn cleaner....
  12. What did Jack Daniels ever do to you big guy? Leave those sissy drinks to the ECU Pirate crowd[] Three fingers of Jack and two ice cubes is all you need.
  13. Thanks for the heads up on the speakers Ace. A long day in the coal mines today. One of my projects monitored by the state folks.....seems to have passed muster but still a long day. I'll have a short one with you Ace. Where are the other regulars?
  14. Good post Bruce. It is intriguing to think about what could be produced today and a little sad that RTR may one day go the way of the 8 track. As far as tape, I have all I will ever need and as you and Groomy pointed out its still available. Does anyone have a Studer or Otari? Never had one but if the budget ever allows.....
  15. We are feeling a little jilted here DRBILL but enjoy the new hobby. We will hold you to your promise[]
  16. You're a good man replace. I think JB said that rock is the national beer on Pluto[:^)] Ace you and Winchester had all the games covered this weekend. Think the Vikings will cruise to a win tonight?
  17. Very nice set up and welcome aboard!
  18. Very fine fish and a fun day[Y] Beats losing money on Carolina anyday. Post a pic when you can. My friend who gave me his collection of LPs no longer has an interest in listening to music and no longer owns a turntable. Going through the albums now and more than a few are keepers. He has another box I may go through but it has been kept in the garage so I don't know how they fared. Winchester.....good score on the Rolex. Next time we see you one arm will be longer than the other. Get well soon Ace....there is beer to brew. Glad you're not letting any dust gather on your bar stool here.
  19. 7.5 ips is more than adequate for making tapes from CDs. No need to use 15 ips unless you are recording a master tape of live music. My 2 cents.
  20. Sounds good Winchester....no need for hotel.....stay here. Two bedrooms upstairs. A friend called today to say he needed to get rid of his LP collection and since we have been friends for 50 years he offered them to me. The box weighed about 70 pounds and I haven't counted the albums yet. A lot of 70s and 80s music. James Taylor, Allman Bros, Fogerty, Linda Ronstadt, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Eagles, Marshall Tucker, some beach music (Drifters) and 1 Micheal Jackson[+o(] I Nitty Gritty vacumn cleaned a Marshall Tucker twice and served it up.....not bad at all. Hope the rest are as good. I down graded to a bottle of Stoli....iced up as we speak. Time to pour a Maker's Mark, go clean up the grill, reflect on my good fortune and this carolina blue sky. Life is good! Cheers gentlemen[D]
  21. Teac, Tascam, Akai, Ampex, Tandberg, Revox, Sony, Studer, and Pioneer all made good decks. Parts availability may be a concern with most but Teac parts are available. The sound will be the same with the 7 inch or 10 inch reels though as Coytee mentioned the bigger reels look nice and can play much longer without flipping them over. RTRs need maintenance (head cleaning, demagnitizing) and the pinch rollers and heads can go bad. Also consider mechanical or solenoid controls. I have had a Teac 3300 for over 36 years with just one trip to doctor Kaas. I have two Teacs in daily use in my system. Never bought a prerecorded tape but have taped live and made compilation tapes from CDs and LPs. Tape is still being made (Quantegy) and there is usually tons of new and used on ebay. The sound is good and hiss is barely noticeable on my decks. Make a tape from a CD and it warms up the sound a bit. Hope this helps.
  22. Speaking of ouch....what do you think of Michael Vick's 2 year deal with Nike? [:S]
  23. Small world Groomy...Kevin has rebuilt both of my Teacs. JL...I think Thebes had an Ampex project about a year ago...think his was a tubed deck. May want to check with him. As for tapes...I have bought a lot of new Maxell and TDK off ebay. Why not try recording an LP or CD at 15 ips and play it back?
  24. What a waste of bourbon[+o(] Thought I had taught you better.
  25. Great guy is right....comfortable as an armchair to me though we never met in person. Can't hear a Stones song without thinking about him. I remember telling him I looked forward to seeing him at Coytee's jube fest and he said something to the effect "be carefull what you wish for....people either get me or not" I think a lot of us "got him". I had thought of starting a thread on his birthday which I am pretty sure is October 27th. If no one else does I will....RIP Old buddy.
