  1. Welcome to the internets and anonymous opinions. "Smilies" (which I detest except in ASCII) were quickly developed as a way to insert nuance, irony, inflection and expression into the sterile world of short, anonymous text communications. Back out, LISTEN carefully (lurk) and then walk back in cautiously but with confidence and congeniality. "In the internets, no one can hear you scream." ;-)
  2. Arky, What browser and what operating system are you using? I've found this forum software to be the absolute worse in terms of compatibility with different browsers and OSs. It seems to be VERY Microsoft specific (and not Web Standards compliant), preferring XP and IE. I'll run XP (at the office), but I'll be damned if I'll ever run IE. Send your pics to me at "pmsummer <at> gmail.com" and I'll upload them to the forum, if you'd like.
  3. I think somebody in Arkansas bought them... in a partial trade for some mint Cornwalls.
  4. '85 Cornwalls just might need new caps. My '78s sure did. They didn't sound bad (they actually sounded quite good in a giant AR3a kind of way), but when I put new oil cans in there, it was like somebody turned on the lights. If the high seems a little muted, new caps will wake them right up. To my ears, the Cornwall (like all the "Heritage" line), excel in reproducing live/recorded live music. That's why jazz and classical (and blues, bluegrass, folk, and straight-ahead rock) all sound so good. Music that can not be reproduced outside of a recording studio suffers being played through a Heritage speaker because the "source" has no reference. It's all about SFX in too much modern "pop/rock" music (even the good stuff), and Cornwalls, LaScalas, K-Horns and Heresies are not SFX speakers. I have known some people whose musical tastes have CHANGED as a result of getting Klipsch Heritage speakers (much as people's tastes sometimes change when they get into tubes). Congratulations, BTW. Grin on!
  5. Been running Pandora for the last few weeks. Probably bought about 8 CDs because of it! I've now got two Apple Airport Expresses w/AirTunes streaming it from my office to my living room and bedroom set-ups (using AirFoil). It great non-critical listening.
  6. Where in West Texas? (As opposed to West, Texas...which isn't in West Texas). Beautiful speakers, BTW. And yes, how much and what are the serial #'s?
  7. First: They're British, writing for a British audience in a British newspaper. If we can call American Rules Rugby "football", they can certainly use "alongside" properly. Second: Sgt. Pepper's came in #2 on the list. Last: It's a nice, thought provoking list. It isn't the Law.
  8. Southern Folk/Gospel with some nice instrumentals. Self published. Depth of Mercy Red Mountain Church ...comes with my utmost and highest recommendations. If you enjoyed the soundtrack to Cold Mountain, you should like this.
  9. If they are in great shape and you love the way they sound and look, offer $300 cash right that moment. Show 'em the money. Have another $100 in the car (or have a friend with you with the extra cash you can "borrow" it from).
  10. 1980. $250 - 500 +/-, depending upon finish and condition and buyer.
  11. A couple of Zappa's efforts stand out:
  12. Indie Folk with a haunting difference. Spare, minimal, clinging melodies. A voice like a beautiful, but terrified, child. Bosque Brown Plays Mara Lee Miller Bosque Brown Burnt Toast Vinyl (CD)
  13. Gregory Peck in Moby Dick. It's the scene where Captain Ahab tries to figure out just which whale they've speared.
  14. I won't post it, but the cover for Throbbing Gristle's second LP, "D.O.A.: Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle", is the kind of stuff that got Pete Townsend arrested on suspicion. Spooky, creepy, sicko....and that's just the "music". And yes, I own a vinyl copy from my youth. But it's put WAY out of sight.
  15. What the hell... better late than never. On almost everyone I know's "home entertainment systems", CDs beat vinyl (not on mine). Beatles Bones and Smokin' Stones (with a tip o'the hat to Captain Beefheart), Mercy does indeed beat Justice (or I wouldn't be here), The Truth beats Philosophies and Religions, Points and Dwell beats Electronic Ignition? Even NASCAR has given up on that, Corona beats Heinken as something to rinse your glass with before pouring a REAL beer, Red Heads beat Blondes in skin cancers.
  16. This one is highly thought of over in the digi-forum at AK.
  17. ...the original on-location 2-track reel to reel tapes of choirs, bands, and organs recorded by Paul Wilbur Klipsch himself for demo purposes. It was quite a thrill to hear them. Part of the old "Klipsctapes" project? Apparently, some thought has gone into producing some of these for sales. These have yet to be archived, and time's running out.
  18. An interesting list from Paste Magazine. I especially like #'s 1 and 100 (and a few inbetween as bolded).Just someone's opinion, but an interesting list nonetheless. http://www.pastemagazine.com/action...article_id=3003 __________________
  19. Look for a Yamaha CR-2020 or 3020 (rare). Not tubes, but not Pioneer or Sansui, either (no offense meant).
  20. Same here. BTW: Have I mentoned how much this forum software sux?
