Somebody on the forum has a pair of RF-42s for $350 I believe...

I remember the first time I heard Heresy's; I was TOTALLY impressed. They sound much bigger than they are, although they have to be the largest "bookshelf" speakers ever... Like was said above; wait 'til you get 3 more & a sub.... WELCOME & Congratulations~

What is your listening room like? Size, dimensions, etc. What level are you likely to listen at (near max or down relatively low)? What are your other components? What receiver depends a lot on these elements.

They're a little outside your range; retail in the $400-500 range, but I got mine new off ebay for $248.

What exactly is your budget? I think these are the absolute best value cans I've heard: AKG-701

First of all, I'd move that desk & get your system centered in the room. THAT SAID.... You're best choice in that room is on the wall on each side of the sofa, just above ear level when seated.

No need for a y-splitter; both those subs have an HDMI connector to use them in series.

FYI: Music will almost ALWAYS sound better in 2 channel than 5.1 unless it was specifically recorded in 5.1.....

A lot depends on your preferences. If you are the type to blast away at or near max output all the time, I'd suggest going up rather than down. Otherwise, you probably won't notice much of a difference, if any. Your ears will tell you more than we can advise. Can you audition both together (some dealers will do this)? The average joe/jane won't notice the benefits of biamping or the different speaker combos you're talking about. How large your room is has some bearing on what you'll want to get; a larger space generally requires more amp/speaker to fill it with a given volume/dB level. THAT SAID; it is a LOT easier to buy up now than buy low & want to upgrade later. I don't find very much difference between the RS-42/52/62, personally. They are used for the surrounds which don't get all that much material overall (I would love to do an all-full range speaker 7.1 someday, but I tend to go overboard on music/audio stuff [] ), and most folks put everything below @ 80-120 hz from the surrounds into a sub, anyway. It boils down to how picky are YOU about audio? You'll probably get a TON of opinions, but only your ears can tell for sure.

Morglbl is a FANTASTIC 3-piece French jazz (using the term loosely... they are hard to pigeon-hole) band who were in the U.S.A. last year on tour for a few weeks. No affiliation, other than a friend of the promoter and a fan of their music. In 2007 Mörglbl came roaring back with a new CD, Grötesk, now bringing wide attention and high praise in the US. A while ago I situated two pairs of RF-7's up front as mains.......two on each side, side by side. Something about having the two speakers right next to each other just did not work. One pair on, the other pair off and vice-versa I just couldn't get it right. It was like the reflection off the other speaker cabinet was the problem.......which sounds like part of what your RB-5's are dealing with in that cabinet. You would actually experence a better result by having them one on top of the other; sort an "RF-7 Line Array"....I know a guy with Cornwalls on top of each other with the upper pair upside down (horns toward each other)...he thinks it sounds fantastic (I've not personally heard it).
