  1. Floorstanding only - and with the grill covers on. You could try placing a wedge in front for some tilt if that may help in your application. NP - Big Country - The Buffalo Skinners
  2. When I had a bum k-8-k, I could not find a cheap non-original replacement, but did find a pair of them off of ebay for $50 delivered. The 8" k-8-k seems to be the most troubleprone issue on the KG 4's, and other Klipsch models that use them. Good Luck! NP - Rose Tattoo - Debut
  3. I watched it with the wife last weekend, and from what I had gleaned from reviews, didn't think I'd make it very far into the movie. I had a great time! Enjoyed it immensely, altho I didn't care much for Christian Bale's character/acting. Top notch sound effects and some very interesting machinery. Two Thumbs Up!
  4. I agree - you should not have any issues as long as you use reasonable control of the volume. If you start to hear distortion, breakup, or suffer inner ear pain, please reduce the volume. NP - Midnight Oil - Capricornia
  5. I had been thinking about getting a pair of the entry level Maggies for a change in my system also. I've been a little leery about having speakers stick out more in the room, so i've not moved in that direction yet. But yeah, if you have a lot of Klipsch to choose from, they tend to sound similar after awhile. Might need to start listening outside the box. SAHB
  6. Altho my audio directory shows 1989 pricing for the following 2 items, the KG 2 & KG 4, the 1990 release of the KG 3 would probably be in the $300 each price range. I added a few other prices for other Klipsch to add to my word count. List prices as per the October 1989 Audio magazine. Price per speaker: KG 2 - $238 KG 4 - $339 Heresy 2 - $464 Forte 2 - $649 Chorus - $815 CW 2 - $819. It seems to me that the H2 & CW 2 hold their value quite well in 20 years.
  7. There should not be any noticeable difference in the old or newer wire. I have used old wire, different gauges, thru numerous systems and have yet to notice any differences. NP - Pat Travers Live @ The Ritz, courtesy of Wolfgangs Vault
  8. My ports are 4" wide and 2 1/2" deep. That would make mine a version 2.5 When I was fiddling around, I found that they are easily removable and now have 1" deep ports. I wonder if saving money on plastic was a factor in reducing the port length on all of the CF models. Productivity savings !
  9. I'm going to try something a little different in this case. I will put these 5 discs in my spinner, hit the "random" play button, and hope for the best. That way, it still pertains to 2 channel audio - win/win. CORROSION OF CONFORMITY - In the Arms of God DANZIG - How the Gods Kill & Blackacidevil MONSTER MAGNET - Spine of God & God Says No p.s. Should be done in about 4 hours.
  10. I see our local library is getting some of the stereo remasters in so I'll put my name on the waiting list as they come in and make myself a copy. I forced myself to listen to Revolver the other night and just confirmed what I already knew - not a fan. NP - UFO - The Visitor
  11. I checked my CF-4 grills and the horizontal braces are nowhere close to rubbing the drivers. I'd probably look into using thin steel reinforcing material and either screw it or hot melt it to the brace.
  12. Tried to. Visited Honda dealer on saturday 7-25. I wanted an orange Honda Fit Sport, but had none in stock. I gave them the choice of 3 colors, but after one callback on the 29th, salesman said they were still looking. In the meantime, CARS funds were in jeopardy til yesterday. I have not called back and may just end up waiting. The OTD price from Edmunds.com forums to look for was $17500 not including the discount of 4500. But the best I could do was $18250. I do not need a car in the summer, as I am close to work and can either bicycle or motorcycle to & fro. So, my '89 Nissan Pathfinder (15mpg) continues to rust out in the driveway with a dying battery. We have excellent credit but are only interested in Honda's so-called "cheap" economy car, so I do think we're way down on the list for the sales dept to help us out. I will only follow thru on the deal if I get the color I want, otherwise we wait for the 2010's to come out and decide if we go that route or spend $5000 on a used car to last us for a few years. NP - Golden Earring (Live @ Wolfgangs Vault)
  13. They're probably selling in the range of $200 to $300/pair in US Dollars.
  14. No, haven't had any issues with ours. We pay off the balance every month. I have never considered to pay only the minimum payment. I guess that is what credit unions and banks are for: they lend people money, with no changes in payments and a fixed rate for the life of the loan. I don't know if you ever watch the Suze Orman show, but there are thousands of people who are in CC debt and can't do the math. Now, please tell us all that you have at least a 9 month cash emergency fund?
  15. I think we need to hear back from MDG on a couple of things. What size is your listening/viewing room, can you continue to get by with your current setup while you look for "used" Klipsch; do you like to turn it up? What part of the country do you live in? Maybe there are some Klipschaholics in your area that has something for sale. I haven't kept up with the latest all-in-one systems from Klipsch, but can someone recommend something in MDG's price range? I've been a Klipsch fan since since I found a pair of Heresy's years ago, and fortunate to have amassed other used Klipsch in my arsenal of sound. NP - Rhino Bucket....and then it got ugly
  16. The only problem with the recommendations is that MDG wants to keep it around $500. If I was in the same boat, I would seriously look at the Hsu Research Ventriloquist system for $300, and add a subwoofer. Depending on the size of MDG's room, there may not be room for 5 Heritage speakers. Then you could still keep the Heresys. Or, being a cheapskate, I would add a sub first, then look at other Klipsch products that "could" work with the Heresy's up front. NP - WHBY
  17. The "old receiver" tips me off to dirty controls. Even if the speakers were suspect, they usually either "play" or "don't play". I would clean every control, with deoxit or similar, turn all controls, buttons, etc on & off repeatedly. Do not turn the volume control more than half way; past that point, it's just deadly distortion kicking in. NP - Sabbath Live, 8/5/75, Asbury Park, NJ
  18. My favorite of the DP catalog is Made In Japan, but the Anniv Edition of Fireball is excellent. Kind of lost track of them after Ian Gillan left, and after Burn came out, didn't really care too much for the Coverdale era. However, I have managed to rack up a pretty good collection. NP - Roxy Music - Country Life
  19. I usually hit my favorite used CD joint once a week, and there is lots of music out there at very good prices. This is what I found yesterday: Roxy Music - Stranded (and) Siren Billy Squire - KBFH Live Greg Lake - KBFH Live The Tubes - The Tubes (MFSL) J Tull - This Was - 2 disc 40th anniv coll All for $20 I don't have any space left for any more speakers, but have made room for more music!
  20. I went out to the mailbox and found my "last" issue of Stereophile (June 2009) in the mail - and was I shocked to see, printed in large green letters, LOUD + CLEAR - Klipsch 's Palladium P-39 on the cover, along with a huge shot of it front and center! I took a quick look and it sounds like a winning effort. Congratulations Klipsch!
  21. Sounds like a grounding issue or you may need to further isolate the TT from any vibrations. NP - Avenged Sevenfold - Live
  22. If it is the k-8-k 8" driver, i see them on ebay quite often. I was lucky to find a pair of replacements last year for $50 delivered. There is usually someone parting kg 4's out occasionally, but the trick is to find your parts at your price point. Definitely worth it, and if you can make a peanut butter and jelly sammich, you can tackle this! NP - RoseTattoo - Blood Brothers
  23. I have a pair of CF-4's version 3. $800 is right at the top of what I would pay for a pair in excellent condition. I would not worry about the big rush to upgrade to a so-called better version, when you have not listened to them yet. I power my so-called "worst version CF-4's" with an '89 Hafler xl280 amp, 145 watts/channel, and have also run them thru other cheaper, vintage receivers, and a Yamaha 7.1 HTR with acceptable results. I think my room is what is limiting the potential, but the only downside is that these are very heavy and cumbersome to move around. For me, the seller would have to come down on price, as I've seen the 4's go for $500 to $600 a pair. In good times. In any case, good luck and hope it works out for you. I know what happens when you have your eye on something and if you don't do it, you regret it for the rest of your life. You can always make more money, but you may not get a chance to test out the big 4's.
  24. Not much of a sale at our CC, but I did peruse the cd section and wondered: where the heck did all of the cd's go? Who the heck was buying them all up at only 25% off? Good riddance. When Media Play had their GOOB sale, I found lots of deals, and toward the end there, they were opening every cd, dvd, etc to inspect for damage. Man, I bought lots of cd & dvd's for 75% off. Hmm, the good old days.......... NP - Angels - Liveline (itunes version)
  25. I have Forte 2's and KG 5.2's and don't think the price is worth it for the step up. If it was Cornwalls, I'd say yes. NP - Accept - Death Row
