  1. False. What many mean to say, is that it might take less tube watts to satisfy people. But watts are watts. If you want real loud, you better be very careful about those Dared amps, and many SE amps like it. They are great sounding amps but do not deliver high power. Many are less than 20W. (Dared also makes some PP amps) If you want LOUD, you should begin your search at 60W per channel with a push pull amp. The smaller SE amps under 20W are for careful, close listening at modest volume. Think of it like gourmet food - it's not the quantity it is the quality of flavor that counts. Many people with Klipsch speakers can use tube amps as small as 1W, but they are not listening at loud levels. I love these small power amps too, but I also do not listen at loud levels. I hope that helps. I've been listening to and designing tube amps for 40 years, so feel free to ask questions. I want you to get the tight amp! Just out of curiosity, which McIntosh amp would you choose out of the MC30, MC225, MC275 or a different one? It seems they are like flavors of ice cream in various forums. Some people say the 30 has the best mids, but lack in other areas, some think the mc225 was the very best McIntosh ever built while the mc275 seems to get the least love even though is supposed to be the most popular. I am just not a big fan of the sound of the McIntosh Amplifier (aka "unity coupled amplifier"). This is a Class B push pull amplifier with a lot of negative feedback through the transformer and a long signal chain. All of this just to get the benefit of longer tube life. Yes, it is a rather brilliant design, and I give credit for that, but the design goal of making power tubes last 10,000 - 20,000 hours wouldn't be my goal if you have to give up clarity and detail. I think the McIntosh Amplifier made a lot of sense in it's day (1950s), but it just doesn't make that much sense for audiophiles today when there are so many better sounding amps available, albeit with shorter tube life. I also understand and appreciate the McIntosh Mystique. They are wonderfully made, and a lot of nice engineering went into them. But many other amplifier makers can also do that - Audio Research being the most obvious. Now, if you sit down with a ARC D-75A and a McIntosh MC-275, you will be immediately aware of the sonic differences in these amps and why the topology is so important to the sound qulaity. Both amps are beautifully built - really. Both are highly reliable and stout and heavy and all those things people like in amps. If you want to put a set of new tubes in an amp, put it in an equipment closet for 10 years, never touch it, and have it play every time you turn the switch, get the McIntosh - no question about it. But, if you want the maximum clarity, finesse, fine grained detail, and pure musicality from a tube amp, there are about 50 others which I would choose before the McIntosh. Thanks for the info. How silly would it be to run tubes through an AVR for the two front mains for stereo music listening as well as using it for the multi channel content?

  3. I concur. Most HD owners that stay owners and actually ride year after year usually end up with a Street Glide or Electra Glide, especially if their wife rides. Comfy for the better half and plenty sporty when running solo.
  4. I have seen your pictures, why would you need that, the grass is no greener. But It's ok to dream Now that I can easily understand. Oh my actual spending of the 250K would be much more boring. College fund, Mortgage and friggin' Day Care and private Elementary!
  5. 250K could do so much more than that. You could have this And a Ryder truck load or (two) of all of this A big mess of this A a few days of fun here Hire some travel partners and...... Spend two weeks here. And you would come home owing $46
  6. Geez, sad as an abused dog.
  7. Looked like an Academy. They have a pair of 8's also. Close Wow, why does the horn look so narrow? The Academy line was sort of an entry level. The horn used in this unit is actually a tweeter that is also used in some of the past speakers. It also looks very, very similar to the updated tweeter that was used in the Cornwall II, but I cant confirm this. I'm sure they broadened the X-over range of this little horn to accommodate the vocal range in movie dialog, while reducing the max input power. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the RC center channels. The RC versions actually have better response than the old KLF-C7, but I cant say which actually sounds better.
  8. Looked like an Academy. They have a pair of 8's also. Close
  9. Pretty close to what you want Its tweeter is horn - loaded, is it a klipsch? I dont think so, the women voices of my RF-82ii is excellent. In fact, the male voice of RC-64II is great and better than the vast number of center speaker in the same price range. But i think that the RF-82II is even better. It's not the quantity of bass that concerns me, its the quality. Yes its a KLF-C7. You can find them on ebay in the $300ish range 99db sensitivity with dual 8's and it has a larger horn. They should have expanded on this one instead of nixing it
  10. Would it be pointless hooking up a two channel tube amp to an AVR to just run the front mains, yet still include it with multi channel listening? I understand a tube pre would be much better, but hey, I like my remote and I am not setting up two listening areas.
  11. The full set, top and bottom. I removed them to match X-overs with a set of LaScala I have. The top half for the mid and tweet is plug and play. The Bass caps will have to be mounted on dog house door and wired in. All mounting hardware included and I guarantee them to work. I don't really know what they are worth, but wanted to see if any of the members here had interest. They were on 1989 K's and are very clean for their age.

    Save Amy!

Yeah, I think enough has been said about all this. Lets have a little respect for Amy and her privacy in this instance and stop dissecting this whole situation. Spamming e-mails to Klipsch and all that BS is just that.

    Save Amy!

Working for a company is still WORKING for a company, no matter if it's Rolex, Ferrari or even Klipsch. Its not all chits and giggles. We live and breath Klipsch on our time when we feel like it. We don't get it force fed like most of all our everyday occupations. Amy is obviously moving on to greener pastures. As much as everyone will miss her, we all need to be happy for her.

    Moving on

A BIG Congrats Amy! Don't worry, no one will fill your shoes around here. I think it safe to say every single member of this forum will miss you and I can already see a huge thread PARTY when you have time to pop back in here. Hope to see more or your photographs in the "Photo thread" too! Since I never got to serenade you in my man cave, this will have to do

    WTF ?

This isn't CL, Ebay or the local free "want ads". Most of the crew here isn't going to post any merchandise at an unreasonable price and I think its safe to say, the majority here know where the market is on just about anything even well outside of audio. When a stranger shows up with a single post advertising what they have, they should expect to get feedback of what is going to sell here or not. I have seen a post like this go ignored and the OP give out a second post of something like "What, no takers on this?" and then someone pipes up and lets them know where their item is trading or has traded recently and then the OP has a fit. Im certainly not saying new member sellers or even old should be bullied and what not. These acts and the "ribbing" should be reserved for the fellow members and fellow "friends" of the forum. The forum stranger or "newb" in the crowd is always going to be offended easier among strangers. They usually think they have a rare bird and seldom get the news they want and coming from an internet stranger never helps. What gets my Goat, is when someone posts a sell item and get interest with several replies, string folks along and then say "I decided to keep them" or "it"
  16. Can we not get some re-issues of the Hobbit shirt? How about an updated drawing? I'll take two or three.
  17. Nice looking place and Audio setup Schu. I was counting on at least one piece of Trekkie memorabilia though.
  18. I have to pass, I am subject to screening at the new and improved health care where I am considered a drug abuser by the only doctors now allowed to prescribe pain meds Used to be if I had pain my family Dr or Surgeon could address my problems, Now I am forced to see a third supposed specialist in pain management where I must sign a contract stating I promise not to abuse, sell, etc...etc...etc...and, I am subject to random drug screens. (I feel like I am back in the army) They just want to make sure you're taking them and not abusing any other drug that might not mix with it well and kill you. They also want to make sure you're eating them and not selling them and making a part-time business out of it. You can thank all the disability fakers, RX junkies and just your regular old scheming/loser for all of the regulations. Pain management doctors are highly regulated.
  19. I have read here that you can over do it when it comes to acoustical panels and treatments. Would the OP's picture be one of these situations since the room is so small?
  20. Bad guys have nothing to lose. The hard working American with a family has everything to lose. This is bass akwards from the way it should be.
  21. Well Max since this is the bedroom let's just say choices, choices, choices! Very nice Safe Kaiser. I think a safe is the best investment anyone can make these days, even if you don't own any weapons. I have more keepsakes and nick nacks passed on to me in mine that I barely have room for my guns. Plus, with all my friends kiddos running around the house all the time on weekends I never leave any gun outside my safe at any time. I have been pondering a fingerprint reader strong box and mount it on the back of my nightstand to keep a little snub nose S&W airweight 38 I have.
  22. The doorbell buttons aren't UV friendly and the Sun will break them down and then they will swell or get out of shape, crack etc. In this case I bet the tolerance of the button closing in on the contacts is much closer now from an old plastic or sticking button. It could even be the spring behind the button. Salt or "salt spray" enhances conductivity, which could make this happening more probable. I would bet on the button as the culprit, instead of the chime unit itself.
  23. It's still blocked. I guess technology has tightened things in the past 10 years. I snap shots with my iphone and directly upload them from my phone to the photobucket site all while using my phone. My pictures aren't high quality from the phone, but the convenience is very high.
  24. Thank you! I used to fight with IT guys at bank locations because they would interfere with my trading systems. Have you ever tried an IP addy instead? Don't get in trouble !, but if you want to see if it would work, type 209.17.80.100 and hit enter. This is the Photobucket picture hosting site.
