  1. I'd buy a Macbook and a DAC! Changing CD's - Bah [D]
  2. I'm pretty much with TheEar. I prefer Firefox. Chrome has a nice way to display links which is pretty nice, but it totally screws up opening PDF files for m. Seems to be a conflict with Adobe Pro 9 I guess. I deleted it today matter of fact over the Adobe headaches.
  3. Me too, it is way cool. And it's figured out live songs from studio versions and seldom misses. But it does miss once in a while. I guess they have a room full of people playing name that tune 24 hours a day
  4. I'd check the Lynx cards (expensive) and the M-Audio Audiophile cards (less expensive) too. Might be cheaper to buy a Mac at some point, depending what card you go after. Mac is easier but both systems can get you where you want to be.
  5. Yeah it's a little confusing to discuss, but give it a shot Just get your data you want in excel and import that into a new table. That might be all you need. I use outlook contact list to maintain all our vendors at work and import the entire mess from outlook into a table. Joining two tables is basically a query you can do with the wizard. Charge in there and you will do no wrong, until you start deleting things! ChAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARgeeeeeeeeeeee
  6. Think you still have to get around KMixer which probably means you need to get an ASIO compatible card to get an ASIO signal out of the PC. 44.1 khz DAC is fine unless you want hi res stuff downb the road. 24 bit DAC is nice as it allows a bit more control versus 16 bit. 16 sounds fine too.
  7. Coytee I think you can select import direct from Excel rather than a delimited format Also, I find it often works best to import from Excel into a blank table and then join the table with other existing data if required. You can then rename the joined table if need be. Best O Luck
  8. If your gonna use curtains on the walls I'd skip the stucco. Just seal or paint them. You could then do DIY acoustic treatments in between the curtain parts over time. I'd spend the money putting drywall on the ceiling before I'd stucco walls. Just my taste I guess. Drywall might not cost more than panels, a guess there. Can finish the outside edge with molding so the only plaster work is flat seams. Good luck.
  9. Stay on the alert for empty jars of WIC peanut butter. Prolly on food stamps too.

    Satch

Last night we went to see Mountain. Leslie West and Corky Lang, different bass player. I have always like Leslie and Corky was a hoot. It was a fun show and Leslie did a good job on the solo singing. Wish Felix was there but the new bass player rocked. Corky spent all night trying to bounce sticks off his cymbal and shoot them to people and giving Leslie the finger for laughing cause his aim was crap. Played all of my fav songs. Good show. Then it was Joe! OMG. Joe and Stu Hamm amaze me. Satch is getting better. Just a friggen wall of riffs. Stu played a great solo and a lot of it wandered around Zep's goin to California. Joe just rips. I think when you get up to Petruci, Malmstein, Vai - all those guys with way too much skill, I find that Joe plays stuff I can always tap my foot to while my jaw hangs open. As much as I love to watch Dream Theater live they lose me sometimes on CD. So, go Satch! Bonus is my wife digs him too ... Can't go wrong seeing Joe. He's trying some new sounds I think. Voice box thing, one song sounded quite Santanaish. Course they all end up sounding like Joe in the middle who is probably the best wammy bar guy I can think of on the high notes. It dun made a bad day mo fun fer me.
  11. Just put an apple or carrot in your piehole, grab yer camera, lay down by the access portal and take a nap. When you feel those little fingers prying the apple away from your death bite start snapping (photos not your choppers). Don't forget to post. Extra points if you show us some blood. Minus points if it's the coons.
  12. I use my iPod a lot on the big system. I just run a split cord off the headphone jack. Best to get a cord with the miniplug one one end and L and R RCA jacks on the other. It works fine until you decide you want "better". The easiest way to get better is to buy a Mac, but you can get there via PC too. Then you are looking at modifying your PC or getting the device mentioned earlier which I assume is the Wadia Transport. There are some differences between the Airport Express and Extreme so do your homework if you go down that road.
  13. With iTunes on an Apple computer it's a bit easier to get bit perfect good reproduction than on Windows. Not that that is the end all, but it's a hurdle. If you are using Windows try this - Under preferences set import format to AIFF and turn error correction on. Rip a CD. It should be an exact copy at that point. Set iTunes playback volume to maximum using the slider. Turn all the track equalization stuff off. Under Windows you get the same copy, but depending upon your sound card etc it might resample for playback. This would all be done to allow you to hear a CD playback on your stereo. Listen to your rip versus the original and see how you like it. Beyond this you get into soundcards, ASIO and DACs. Then you can try different rip algorithms. I'd try lossless and stop there myself. Personally I use AIFF. But it's fun to fiddle with the compressed stuff too. Let your ears be your guide to what sounds good for you. For the iPod, I would try AIFF and Apple lossless. The former is a copy and the latter is a smaller file similar to FLAC. Both should give good quality on the iPod. It's just about space basically. I don't mean playback using the iPod to feed a stereo, I mean using your headphones/earbuds/etc. Good luck.
  14. Check out a Pod. It emulates all kinds of speakers, amps and effects. Crunch a bunch. No problem. Marshall or Mesa!
  15. Vasectomy and a puppy! heh
  16. Surely Tom I found the link - http://woodworking.about.com/od/shopequipmentsupplies/ss/portableTable.htm Basically there is a 2x4 across each end with wheels. It's hinged and held down by small 2x4 blocks that are spring loaded to close when you lift the end which locks the wheels down when you lift. Not my idea but I liked it. I modified it by running two 2x4's across the short ends aligned with the long side stringers. I put a couple braces across there so I can mount a sheet of plywood for a big shelf. That's not complete in the picture, but some of the cut wood is laying around. If you do that, get the shelf in there before you add all the wheelsupports for ease. I might have to split my shelf. I'll know this weekend. I'd use rubber wheels rather than the cheaper plastic ones like I did. They cost more but roll a LOT better. I'll change them out. Lastly, I'd dry fit the whole hinge part assemblies before screwing things in, you can have some variation in cuts due to the hinges you use. It's very solid and I'm pleased with it. I think there is a really nice one on Lowes or HD site that is a rolling work table with lots of cubbys and stuff. Looks more like a island in the kitchen, quite nice. But I tend to toss stuff in giant rubbermaid tubs and slide it on the shelf, so this was a much simpler project. If I did it over I might lower it to ping pong height! Regards
  17. And one area pretty well completed. Note the outlets are pretty high for when the floods come. I try not to think about that.
  18. Bit of filler and hand planing since construction grade lumber isn't ... perfect. Or, I'm just AR.
  19. Iron pipe ought to work. That's what I will do too. Might think about water separators (or oilers) if that interests you. Work table with shelf 1/2 installed. It's clamped to one side just to not tip over till the weekend. I like it but need to install better wheels. Rubber rather than plastic.
  20. Hoover Sucks And that's a good thing, we have a few and they work great. Think we have one of those Kenmores too. We use the Consumer Reports recommendations. Kirbys. Wow, my very first real job (I think) in High School was selling Kirbys! I think my step mother wanted to be buried with hers.
  21. I'm with HiFi Jim Hard to beat a Macbook / iTunes. Comes with remote or you can use iphone or iTouch. Can put near unlimited storage away from listening location. I'd use a Airpoirt Extreme for higher resolution. I use AIFF. Can pull it off with a Mini if you don't mind dealing with the no screen. Much quieter than a PC laptop I'd venture. Only hear the Macbook if ripping.
