Why would you hit your brakes to warn a guy off your rear end so he doesn't hit you and thereby greatly increase the risk of him hitting you? That's just not real smart.

I have Klipsch Fortes and I own a pair of 1970s B&W dm-1400s I love my Fortes very much, overall I prefer them to the B&Ws. But I will say the B&W are excellent speakers. Mine are only rated about 86 db so are difficult to drive. but they are SMOOOOTH. The only issue I would have to say about them is they won't get very loud, and I like loud, realy loud. I want to feel the Bass when I'm really cranking it. But for low level listening the B&W tops the Klipsch IMO. Also not by much just a little and they won't go as low as my FOrtes.

Is $300 fare for the "Forte II" in wallnut?????

Nice score if in decent condition. Excellent score if their really nice. Enjoy them. -
Let me know how it sounds when used as a center. I'm eventually going to do this myself It's nice to have extra options. Oh I have Fortes and Forte IIs in my setup.

Keep in mind a $35 spl meter from Radio Shack will do a better job of setting spks to the same level. You have a choice of KG4's(2 way)Quartets,Forte, even Heresy for say a 5.1 system, and using the spl meter mentioned for setup, you may hear your existing Yamaha sounding better than ever, than the box set JBL's thereby postponing your Yamaha purchase. May even decide enough bass with this setup, thereby postponing sub purchase.Do some research here. Archives are loaded w/info. Agree completely

Big Fan of his stand up. The world was a better place for it. If you ever get a chance to see some of his old stuff you must check it out. Definitely not for kids. Mr Bernie mack "kick it" R.I.P.

They are supposed to be 16. There is very little to suggest they are not.

Question regarding set-up (kinda newbieish.....)
bigdaddy replied to charles04245's topic in Home Theater
The Ear, I'm glad you posted on this. Some of the info given was a little questionable and your name has a little more weight to it. I've done a lot of research over the last 20 months. I'm glad it wasn't all wasted time. -
Question regarding set-up (kinda newbieish.....)
bigdaddy replied to charles04245's topic in Home Theater
That may be true and may not. position also affects this. You will have to experiment assuming you do not have measuring equip. I would start with different positions first and then adjust phase. Once you have that figured out then I would set the speakers to small and the receiver to 80 hz. Turn the subs crossover to it's highest point. Then you must calibrate the whole sytem. All speakers should be putting out 75 hz or 80 hz using the receiver test tones on each channel individually. Once that is done then just try different crossover points up and down until you find the correct blend for you. You should not be able to pick out the sub from the speakers by sound. If you can hear where the sub is it is not blended well with your system. -
OT that's just plain wrong dude.

Their country their rules. I'll watch and enjoy it for the meaningless entertainment that it is. So they have a different world philosophy. I could care less. Yes I agree there are some politics involved in having the games in your country. But we are as guilty as anyone of trying to make intimidating statements.

Nice looking job. I've seen that done and look horrible.

I have an adcom GFA-1a from the 70s and I love it. I must admit I don't have a lot of experience with different amps. I always have just used my receiver. It drives my Fortes very nicely. I haven't hooked the Forte IIs to it yet.

Would Greatly Appreciate Help Choosing An Amp
bigdaddy replied to theclipper's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I've compared the sound of my Yamaha HTR-6090 I bought for a grand in 2006 to a pioneer sx 1500 (NEW IN 1973 ABOUT)that was given to me by my Bro in law. I really liked the Pioneer. My yammie is rated at 120 or 130 watts per channel and the Pioneer is rated at 32 watts per channel. I also have Fortes. -
Excellent movie. I love the bass. I'm surprised there isn't a thread about it in the dvd movie discussion area. But I searched myself and couldn't find one either.
-
I have a yamaha HTR 6090 and it is very similar in specs to the 663. I like it very much. But I have to say Harmon Kardon is high on my list when I have to replace it. I also agree that the 10 watt difference will not be noticed. If you do a lot of reading on different forums you'll find that 10 watts will not get you another 2db. Plus different brands rate them a little more optimistically than some. The 663 will be plenty for your F 3s.

I should add that the color filters you get when you buy it are not included when you rent it.Or at least I didn't get them.
-
You know you can rent it from Blockbuster.com. If you have a membership it'll save you a little. But then it's not a bad idea to own it. I've used it for my DLP televisions and my HT setup. It's relatively easy.

I got 3 racks of spareribs on the smoker and we're heading to my sisters soon to hit the pool and chill with family. -
That's what I thought, OB.

Oh yeah I'm not going to rush anything. I'm just asking questions to find out what to watch for.
-
I guess I owe a guy named Terry for selling me a really beat up pair of KG-4s that just sounded awesome.
-
Is that a tube amp? Or SS? I'll keep a watch on those HK receivers. Thank you guys and anyone else feel free to chime in with alternate suggestions.

No. I wasn't joking. Speakers need room around them.
