  1. Deang..please tell me your going to cut the wires to the tweeter horn on your new LaScalas and make them two-ways...... ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  2. I might have to see if I can find one of those static guns used. I have seen them on ebay before. I knew static was the problem just wondered if there was any cheap tweaks to help that problem. The Music Hall has a glass platter so they must have felt the felt mat was the best type mat for this unit. I've seen much lower priced tables with rubber type mats. I think the static gun might be the best route. Thanks guys...... ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  3. Klipschguy....Instead up upgrading cartridges right away you might want to try to get into the MMF-2.1 which has a Goldring Elan cartridge. I bought a new MMF-5 about two years ago and I compared the MMF-2.1 and MMF-5 and the MMF-5 sounded much better. At that time I really wanted to stay around 300.00 but I figured I'd be kicking myself and wouldn't be able to enjoy the sound of the 2.1 knowing how much better the 5 is for 190.00 more dollars. As for the 1.2 I can honestly say I've never heard it but I can truly recommend the MMF-5. By the way it does come with the Goldring G1012 MM that Allon mentioned. GOOD LUCK ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  4. Mats were just brought up. My MMF-5 just has a felt mat and although I just love the table the records have a tendency to bring the mat up with them when removing. Without paying 90.00 bucks for a SorboGel mat is there any cheaper alternatives. Maybe a rubber mat off a garage sale table? ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  5. They look like KG 4.2's to me. Were about 6-700.00 a pair new back in the earlier to mid nineties I think. ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>

  7. Mobile.....thanks for the great instructions. I will let ya know how it works out. 8. Mobile.....talking about the Staedtler marker, the 357 number just designates the broadness of the marker. The same marker comes in a few different thicknesses. I'm assumming you've had the best luck with the broadest(357) marker. I don't want to make this quick, easy tweak difficult by leaving doodle marks or having to go over the edges three times to make it perfect. Do you have a steady hand? Also, are there any national chains that carry this? 9. Mike....If your looking for a Mac MC-2002 theres one on ebay right now. I don't know if that's the exact model you were looking at or not. ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  10. One more aside here...Computer hard drives will read DATA first, then anything else that happens to be hanging around. I would imagine that Sony will eventually hide the data track so that there can be no scribbling without compromising the entire disk. ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  11. Here is an interesting link that goes into more detail on the Sony protected cd's, if anyone is interested. http://news.dmusic.com/article/4833 Traditional cds, indeed, begin at the innermost portion of the cd itself, but this is brand-spanking new technology...I won't even start a discussion on the RIAA and "normal-use" policies ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  12. Sony has inserted a track of worthless data at the beginning of the so-called "protected" audio CDs. Therefore, the disc, when played in a computer drive, "confuses" the computer with that first piece of worthless data, and the drive cannot move forward to the actual music tracks. By using a black magic marker on the very edge of the disc, it allows the drive to skip thru the worthless data ( which is probably just coded to endlessly loop )~Word on the street is that this information leaked out of Sony proper...perhaps some disgruntled programmers? Anyway, goes to show a few million dollars in research won't stop determined kids! ------------------ 2 Channel System: Klipsch Epic CF-2s McIntosh C-15 Preamplifier Adcom GFA 5500 Amplifier Music Hall MMF-5 Table Adcom GCD 700 CD Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer Transparent Audio Cabless>
  13. Thanks for the idea's Mobile. Might just have to try that green pen, if I can find one.
  14. I've always wondered how well those mats would work, and the price seems right on this particuliar one. However, and this is a serious question, what are the chances of that mat becoming displaced? I'd hate to screw up my player by inserting a cheap ole mat. The mat would work nicely with my vibration damping mouse pads under all my components.
  15. Great post Deang.......My Epics cross over at 2200hz and they sound pretty dang good to me. Two eight inch cones, one two inch horn, and a knuckle failing cabinet is what dreams are made of......
  16. deang....I agree with you on two way systems. Have you ever had a chance to hear any of the Epic series with the D'Appolito driver configurations? I own the CF-2's and have had the opportunity to hear my friends original Heresys on my system and they just don't do what the Epics do for me. The Heresy do rock but can't touch the even distribution of sound throughout the frequecy range. They just blend so well and the imaging is great.
  17. Steve, the Mac does have a bass and a treble control. However the tone control circuit elements are totally removed from the signal path when you have the control in the center detent/flat position. That's the way I have been running mine, although on a few recordings I might bump up the treble a tad. I was using the GTP-600 which ran around 1,100.00 new. I only used the Adcom for two channel and I always bypassed the tone controls on that to. I've only been using the Mac for a few days but it beats my old Adcom in most areas. It also has mm phono and a remote. It's 1,500 new but I got mine for considerable less. Like Tblasing stated, there's just something about those glass fronts. Really killer looks........
  18. Well after months of research and driving myself nuts I finally bought a new preamp. I found a used, but totally mint Mcintosh C-15. It arrived just the other day so I haven't had a lot of listening time yet. This piece is absolutely beautiful and is built like a tank. I could just turn down the lights and stare at the glass front panel and get goose bumps. O.K. for the sound. First thing I notice compared to my old Adcom was a more defined/pronounced low frequency. I wouldn't say the bass is tighter there just seems to be more of it. Second thing is the midrange, where there is more depth and space in the soundstage. It does seem like the Mac rolls off the high frequencies compared to my old Adcom but that could just be the Mac is just a warmer sounding unit, or the Adcom is just a tad bright. Either way, I'm totally happy with my new unit and I can't wait to do more listening. Later
  19. You just can't give all that buildup and then not deliver.
  20. I finally went out and bought a DVD player around a month ago. The reason I waited this long is I was still holding on and upset over the end of the laserdisc era. Anyway I bought a Toshiba dvd that I'm really happy with. I really enjoy watching movies on this new unit. I had some free time today"no kids" so I decided to compare some cd's with the new dvd player going against my Adcom GCD-700. I was hoping my old Adcom would sound considerable better realizing it costs 600.00 more than the Toshiba. WHEW!!!!! Thank God I was right. The Adcom absolutely blew the dvd player out. It was immediately noticeable. I first played some familiar discs on the dvd player. I actually thought something was set wrong or different on my preamp. It sounded like there was a thick blanket over each speaker. I played a few songs on a couple discs and then switched to the Adcom. Wow, no more compressed sound, the dynamics were back, and the detail and space was immediately back. Conclusion....I'll still enjoy watching movies on my new Toshiba DVD player, but my music will always be played through my MMF-5 or Adcom 700.
  21. Steve...The VTL has an optional internally fittable phono stage, not sure about additional cost though.
  22. Steve....I've been flirting with getting a tube pre for awhile also. I stopped into my local high end shop on Friday to take a look at some Marsh products. But all he could talk about was this preamp from VTL. It's the 2.5 I believe and goes for 1,500.00 new and I've seen a few used for 700.00 or so already. It has six inputs and a mute/volume remote, silver or black face. He really raved about this unit, and I'm thinking about going this route. It has 2-12AU7--2x12AT7 tubes. You can get more info on VTL.com. Good luck
  23. You make me sick....great set up!!!
  24. Guys, I also noticed some different frequency numbers, with the new LaScalas at 53hz to 17khz+3db. Also, No prices.....very interesting....It's exciting to see the line back though... This message has been edited by rowooo on 04-08-2002 at 05:10 PM
