  1. I was skeptical at first if it were merely cosmetics, it's nice to hear that it is just cosmetics, I prefer the circular cup in place of the rectangular shape, it just looks cheap to me. Now i'm wondering whether to hold off and buy new RF7's or continue to look for used.... Any idea Amy when they will be made available?
  2. I'm may get ragged on but anyways..... If your room is large enough and you can control the lighting as youthman said go for a projector. If you have the space but don't want a screen that big DLP has some major benefits as far as screen size go in comparison to the Plasma or LCD (or LED). I always tell everyone I know that unless you plan on mounting your TV to save space the plasma's and LCD's are a waste. If space conservation is important then go that direction, if not maybe consider a DLP. The new rage is "flat screens" but IMO my DLP looks just as good if not better than most "flat" screens I've seen. The new plasma's are ages beyond burn in issues, LCD's have definitely speed up in the response/refresh time so you're comparing devices that are very similiar. Plasma's typically yield darker blacks and LCD's are dynamic. DLP IMO have the best of both worlds with a couple of issues, it is a Direct view TV, it yeilds it's best image straight on, the LCD's and Plasma's have better viewing angles, but how often do you watch at 120 * off center. Some people (not all) see what is known as the "Rainbow Effect" I see them if I force myself to. DLP's can get very bright just like LCD's and produce great blacks as Plasma's. Another nice thing about DLP's is their light source is renewable unlike plasma's or LCDs (assuming you don't get a LED DLP). The life of a DLP is greater, when you tell people this you usually get the response " Well plasma's and LCD's say the have 10 or 20 000 hours of use", this is under optimal conditions, Then you get this " well who keeps a TV for 10 years?" blah blah blah. My TV is on for probably 12 -15 hours a day ( my dad lives with us and watches our son so it stays on in the background). So being able to renew the light source when the image begins to fade is important to me. When flat screens begin to fade, there's no fix other than to purchase a new TV which could be costly, more costly then purchasing a new lamp for a hundred bucks...... Hope it's help.....just adds another idea to the mix.
  3. As Michael said, room interactions are huge, if you have problems with early reflections then even standing close to the speaker would cause it to still sound bright. Try to minimize early reflections as much as possible. Also try to tame the wall directly behind your listening posisition. Do you already have a bright room ( I do, hardwood floors) or do you have a soft room (lots of carpet and drapes) are the speakers close to any windows (biggest reflector in rooms). check some of those solutions and see if it helps any.
  4. I'd look at the APC H10 of H15, the H10 can be had for around 99.00 and if real lucky you can find a H15 for that price aswell. The APC IMO is an overall better unit, follows established guideline set by IEC (or EEC) International Electrical Engineer Codes (or something like that). They are also not MOV's so they will not "break" after lighting hits the house. My 2 have served me well. Do I see or hear any improvement, No but the piece of mind that my gear is protected make my wallet feel better.
  5. Order some new boxes and shipping material from klipsch and ship them via freight. Best and safest way.
  6. I've got an Ultra and wouldn't trade it for much of anything but another ultra.....
  7. I've got a Harmony One, I've had other Harmony remotes in the past and have all done well. They are difficult to program at first but once you figure it out it's easy enough. My one complaint with the Harmony remotes is the lack of the user to do any customizing/programming. The Harmony worked great until I got a device (Aragon Stage One) that was not fully supported. Since then I've looked into other remotes that allow for the user to have access to the remotes software for custom commands. Eventualyl I will replace the Harmony with a URC or something similiar. I think the Logitech remotes are suited well for most average consumers/hobbiests.
  8. I missed outby a couple of hours on a pair of RF 7's that were also posted for 600 bucks. Needless to say i was bummed. Been trying for a year and a half or so to score a pair of RF 7's. Either to far away or deals fall through.
  9. It'll get alot worse before it gets any better......that's been my expereince.
  10. I had an RC 3 for quite sometime and it did it's job very well, the only place I was not satisfied was in the music deparment, the RC 7 has it there no doubt. It was matched with RF 5's so the sound was similiar. all in all the RC 3 is a good center channel and I think is adequate for most HT applications.
  11. I think it's great, the site says to look out in fall of 09 for line up. It'll be interesting to see if they keep the line simple with all the new HDMI technology and what not. Hopefully it'll stay simple, when I received my stage one I was surprised at how simple it really was, it sounds phenomenal too.
  12. very few (none that I know of) pre/pro's allow setting distance via their multi channel inputs. The multi ch inputs on pre/pros are an analog pass thru which does not convert the signal from analog to digital to adjust the distances then back to analog, so the signal comming into most pre/pros analog section is dependent upon the device doing the DA conversion for all neccessary adjustments, as adjustments are done in the digital domain before conversion. So those using the multi channel outs on the Oppo need to know this in advance. The Oppo does allow for setting distances , as long as they're all the same or less, so L -10ft C- 10ft R-10ft, these are acceptable what is not is L- 15 ft C- 9ft R-11ft this is not supported. So if for example your setup is like ex. 2 the speakers would all play at the 15ft setting hence everything being out of whack.
  13. After having the Oppo BDP-83 up and running for a couple of weeks now, I can now say that I'm satisfied with my blu ray expereince. I've got the Oppo hooked up via HDMI for fantastic video and Multi Channel for spectacular audio. So far I have only come across one bug, that was while playing a HDCD and I cannot reproduce the bug. The HDCD issues are noted by Oppo and they are diligently dealing with them. The upscaling of SD DVD with VRS is a noticeable improvement over the PS3, the Sony S550 and the Pioneer 51FD. The 51FD being the closest in quality, the same holds true for the analog section of the Oppo. The Multi Channel outs on the Oppo are stellar and IMO leagues above the Sony and the 51FD can still hold it owns in the analog deparment. The dedeicated stereo outs on the Oppo are also excellent, the bass is tighter and punchier in comparison to the 51FD and te Pioneer CD player I have. It sounds natural and balanced. Although the Oppo is not the "Media" server the PS3 is the Oppo is aimed at a different crowd with specific needs. The Oppo is a steal of a deal with all that it offers in the A/V sense. The finish is sleak and build quality is solid and doesn't look as cheap or shiny as the PS3. THe packaging is something that should get an award, the only other thing that cool I've ever unoacked was probably the original iPods in their origami cube, if any of you have/had an origianl iPod unpacking will appreciate the Oppo's packaging. Load times are terrific as fast as the PS3, the sony and the pioneer were no where close in load times. A notable setback for the Oppo IMO is the lack of Multi Channel adjustments, those being delays amoung speakers (ie distance) also bass management is either on at 80Hz or speakers set to large. I set all my speakers to large so this isn't an issue for me but could be for others. The distance is somewhat crtical as the delays for some could make a drastic impact on when a sound arrives. For me it's not much of an issue as all but one speaker is out of distance by 1.5ft, so it's not too noticeable. These 2 options that may or may not be significant to those using the multi channel outs are made available in both the Sony S550 as well as the Pio 51FD. Just my 2 cents, the Dave Matthews and TIm Reynolds Live at radio city is phenomanal on blu ray, so is John Mayer Where the Light is (Trio Section)
  14. Thanks for the replies guys. I was particularly hoping to hear from you youthman, as I had seen your setup before and was curious if they were Coaster chairs. It's good to hear. The paramount chairs by Coaster look similiar to the"directors" chairs with the addition of the storage space between chairs. Here's a link to the paramount chairs : http://www.htauthority.com/index_files/HTAParamountcollection.htm I'd prefer to have manual recline vs the electronic for the reason youthman said and it's in the living room so extra cords are no good. Brac, since you have the directors chairs, is there a gap between the back rest and the seat when you recline? This has been an unpleasent experience with what we have now. Also how is the head rest, the paramount sits 1 in higher than the directors. The Paramount is 8 inches higher than what we currently have which I have to imagine is much better as the 33 in we have now doesn't give any head support, atleast comfortably. Thanks -Stefan
  15. I'm in the market to buy some HT seating, because I plan on ordering online, most likely from HTAuthority.com I was wondering if anyone here had expereince with them, as well if anyone is an owner of the Coaster Paramount seating. Any info would be apprecieted. Any suggestions of style or models would be great, not being able to sit in any of them makes it a crap shoot. I'm looking for 3 seats that recline, storage compartment(s), prefrably dark brown or black in color and would like to stay around 1500 bucks. Thanks guys
  16. Thanks, been working on it for awhile and at only 24 i'm not sure what else to expect in the later years of my life
  17. Here's my close u... see if it works, it's my first time posting a pic
  18. I've got an H10 and an H15, the h15 carrys the heavy hitters, my sub svs PB 13 Ultra, my pre-amp Aragon stage one, the amp aragon 200 watts x 5ch and my new oppo bdp 83. The H10 takes the rest , the tv, xbox, cd player and others. The only time mine ever lights up to boost the line is when the washer and dryer are going. I would gather that you have low line voltage comming in. I would check the Voltage In and Voltage Out aswell as the amount of amps you are pulling as GPBUSA said and then contact your power company if you're not getting 120V in.
  19. Maybe it will ship out later tonight as they make a second trip to the shippers office or maybe I'll have to wait in anticipation untill tommorrow
  20. When did you place your order? I ordered on Monday May 4th and still have had no update. Just when I thought I was in the clear and would have it in by grubby hands I'm still anxious to get home everyday to see if maybe it has shipped. Still waiting....
  21. Older runs of RF5s were rated at 200 watts RMS then later 150 watts RMS, the peak however is at like 600 watts if I recall. The RF 5s I have say 150 watts RMS and I run 200 watts a channel and frequently listen to music in the 110 - 115 dB range.
  22. Yes it does, both SACD and DVD-A over HDMI, it also allows for DSD or PCM output via the HDMI whichever suites you, assuming the avr you have will do DSD.
