  1. First name, middle initial, last initial. Pretty sure we had this one before. I remember a guy named professor ham slap explaining his login name.
  2. Interesting. I thought about doing the same thing myself with the Blu-Ray being on sale for so cheap. The sound on the HD-DVD was pretty incredible, so it's interesting that you found the TrueHD track on the Blu-Ray to be that much better. Louder bass doesn't necessarily mean better, but you say it the other effects were more "realistic." I might have to check it out.
  3. Yes, you can create a column with Datatype OLE object, name the column whatever you'd like. Once you have the column created, right click in the empty cell, choose Insert Object, create from file, and then you can browse to the location where you have the letter stored. Once it's in Access, I'm pretty sure you could delete the original and still be able to open it from Access. I prefer to keep a copy in case the database becomes corrupted. If the original did get deleted, though, you could open it from access, and then re-save it. As far as a thumbnail, I don't think you can do that. Even if you store a bitmap, it just shows 'bitmap image.'
  4. $20 at best buy this week. I'll have to check it out. The "offficial" AVS forum rating for this Blu-Ray disc was 100/100.
  5. Just read some info on AVS forum about a Denon "Universal" player. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1048326
  6. I don't think I've ever turned mine off, other than to move or make different connections.
  7. Funny story about Monster THX cables. I used to work for an electronics retailer, and one of the big things we did was to try to sell lots of monster cable. Monster would put on these conferences about once a year and talk all about their technology, and how great their cables were, etc. Anyway, if you've never noticed, there are expensive Monster cables that say THX on them and there are cheap Monster cables that say THX. So somebody asked the speaker, what are the qualifications to get THX certification for Cables? The speaker says, you pay a license fee. The crowd kind of went silent. We'd all heard about THX subwoofers, and receivers, etc and how they have to meet very stringent standards to have a THX logo on them, but cables... Just pay a licensing fee. He went on to say that THX isn't even owned by Lucasfilm any more (I don't know if this is true or not) and the fact that if you go to CES, you go to the THX booth, where every other presenter has cool new products and gadgets, THX doesn't have anything, just an empty booth.
  8. I've heard a few songs that are supposed to be on the album. I liked them. I'll probably pick up the new CD.
  9. There are actually a whole bunch of titles with 7.1. I found this on the internet. It lists Blu-Ray releases sorted by Audio format. I only have 5.1 for quite some time now. I did have 7.1 a few years ago, but due to a compromise with my wife, got rid of it, and just never went there again.
  10. Pan's Labrynth is also 7.1 DTS-HD.
  11. Ditto. Actually, there might be 3 within 10 miles for me, certainly within 15 miles.
  12. I've been recommending this movie to anyone who will listen for about a year now. Darylomer12, if you have HD-DVD, you can pick this up cheap in that format.
  13. I'm not sure if everyone is referring to the same thing here or not, but I sorta disagree. Set the x-over on the onkyo for 80, but leave the x-over on the sub itself turned off (or all the way up). Some of the sounds recorded to come from the LFE channel are almost certainly going to be higher than 80Hz, so if you set your sub's x-over, you are effectively just throwing that away.
  14. Wheelman, you're a lot better reviewer than I could ever be. Brian Johnson is a great vocalist, there is nobody quite like him. He's 60 years old, too, and I agree he does seem to be on the top of his game on the new album. I've listened to it only a little bit because I've been working from home, and a lot of my music listening is done in the car, but I agree, it's a solid album. Really, there's no other band quite like AC/DC. And you'll never hear them doing a ballad, just straight up rock. And it's interesting how they appeal to just about everybody. I mean you might go to a wedding dance and they'll play AC/DC and you have old ladies dancing to it. Or you go to a country bar and suddenly You shook me all night long comes on. Guess that's why Back in Black is the 2nd best selling album of all time (worldwide--5th in the US)
  15. Any idea what channel it was on or what time? Probably be easier to figure it out that way than just guessing.
  16. Not that one, but I have used one similar to that before, just some random one I bought off of ebay. It worked, that's about the only comment I have about it. I know that's probably not terribly helpful...
  17. Dammit. I don't usually venture into the Subwoofer area, but I thought there were college women in underwear. Thanks for nothing.
  18. The day after I posted that my only Blu-Ray was in my HTPC, I found a LG BH200 at Best Buy. So now I've got one unit that does HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I just did the firmware update, so now it supports all the surround formats, and upgrade via ethernet. Now it's time to start thinking about upgrading my receiver. The unit I just bought doesn't have analog outs, and I'm plugging along with the old Denon AVR-4802. It's a good receiver, but no HDMI, so no support for TrueHD or DTS Master Audio. I'm pretty excited about my new purchase, though.
  19. He probably wants the option to watch without the speakers on? Anyway, it doesn't seem like the output is the problem, it's the input. Look for a setting on your TV for that.
  20. I have Blu-Ray, but only as a drive in my HTPC. For Christmas this year, I think I'll be getting a standalone unit. The HTPC is nice, it can just be a bit of a pain sometimes. I also have an HD-DVD player. I didn't get the Blu-Ray until after HD-DVD failed. I've got lots of movies for it, there are some cheap ones here.
  21. Wow! Thanks for the heads-up!!! I'm going to pick this up tomorrow. I won't be waiting until Halloween, though. We get too many trick or treaters to try and watch a movie anyway.

    Matrix BD

I've got the HD-DVD set, it's pretty spectacular, so I don't think I'll be buying the Blu-Ray. Animatrix is only in 480p on mine, though. Not enough to make me get the new set though as I didn't think Animatrix was that great anyway.
