  1. Gil, I took from his description that this only happens when he cranks the volume a good bit.The description sounds like feedback. Besides the isolation suggestions, I would think a rumble filter would help.
  2. It just sounds right. Other than Mark Deneen's Paragon E paired with Marantz 8b, the best sound I've ever had with my Klipschorns is a Craig-massaged Scott 299b.
  3. We would be very happy to see photos of your system if you'll indulge us...
  4. It's difficult to imagine a much better pairing than the Palladiums and those Accuphase pieces. Sorry, I don't know what to suggest. Congratulations on a wonderful system.
  5. I'm trying to understand here...your PL amps are clipping on the KGs? I might be missing something here, but that seems unlikely, or awfully tough to do without launching your KGs into orbit. I had PL and & preamp running Klipschorn back in the day. The sound was SO MUCH better with the Paragon E (Mark Drennan's old company) and Marantz 8b combo.
  6. I have a dear friend that has lived there forever. And, BONUS, he's from the Bronx. He'll help you if I ask him.
  7. I generally have had a good NAD experience, but once I had a used 2200PE on loan when I had a piece in the shop. It sounded extremely wooley. Audition it. Trust your ears.
  8. Never heard of hoppin john. It appears to be a way of preparing black eyed peas. We make black eyed peas more or less the way we make red beans... Sausage, creole vegetables, lots of seasoning and served with rice. Eating beans and rice contributes to global warming...bigger carbon footprint, er, buttprint.
  9. Thanks for sharing, Dan. The writing is not bad, but it's a chore to read as posted. Would you mind going back and adding paragraph separations? Thanks.
  10. Nevertheless, that was a great football game. Favre played well in the 2nd half. The Bears quarterback was very surprising. That was, let's see, a total of FIVE possessions in OT? White knuckles...
  11. Best vintage? IMO Marantz 8b. But they are quite dear.
  12. I'm worried 'bout the game. Unfortunately, we'll miss about a half of the game due to a 5pm wedding & reception. But we'll ride home to the (hopefully) excited calls on WWL and flip on NFL channel as soon as we're home. I'm worried over this one. BTW, the NFL network relented and has allowed Cox cable to broadcast the signal to the basic subscibers in the BR service area. We were going to have a FULL HOUSE because NFL comes with my Uverse package.
  13. Not in the same league, period. Don't worry about the capacitors yet. Just install the system and enjoy. As for home theater, no, your dad's preamp and amp will not serve to drive an HT system. Hopefully others with expertise will chime in, but I think there is a way to still use it for stereo, and switch over to to the HT setup when you want to watch movies. BTW, there is a real Klipsch nut that lives in Lafayette and posts here on occasion. His license plate reads "Klipsch". I hope he sees this thread. I can't think of his forum name. He might be some help to you.
  14. Linda, you'll be happy to know that Louisiana scored at the top of the happiness scale in a survey published today. Prepare to be very happy.[A]
  15. In home theater, the center channel is all important. You'll need to match the timbre of the Klipschorns. The LaScala is perfect for this and doubles as a fine stand for your flat screen tv. You'll find examples in the home theater section of the forums here. A used LaScala can be found for pretty cheap these days.
  16. (The location question has been answered) 2-channel means old-fashioned stereo played through 2 speakers. Home theater is played through 5, 7 or even more speakers. Your dad's equipment is two channel. I'm sure a means to do both is possible, and Klipschorns can anchor an amazing home theater. What you need to know is that the Klipschorns are designed to work by being pushed firmly into a room corner. 2 good corners in your room is ideal. If you don't have them, some work-arounds are possible.
  17. With a name like Guidry I'm wondering if you might be in south Louisiana. 6. To help with the Klipschorn value we'll need both model number (something like K-C-BR or K-B-WO for instance) and serial number. If they're older the serial number will be something like 6Y422. And yes, we'll need photos. 5. The top section of the speakers easily separate from the bottom section with two wing nuts. That will ease the moving struggle. Remove the side grills first! A nice way to transport the bottoms is face to face, padded between, and strapped together. A hand truck (dolly) will help. 3. They will differ little from newer models in quality of sound. Older Klipschorns do benefit from changing out the old capacitors in the crossover or upgrading the crossover. I'm sure a Mac person will be in here before too long so stay tuned. 4. As far as a CD/DVD player that may depend on budget. I say anything that works. Many are quite high on the OPPO players and they're pretty inexpensive.
  18. Mint? Really? Mint, probably $800-900, very much depending on location.
  19. Of course, every round adds a game. In football that is no small matter. Two rounds with the top four teams would only add one game for the championship. If you want to really stretch it, 8 teams over 3 rounds. Use the current BCS bowl sites as mentioned above. Maybe USC would quit whining. (Not likely) And perhaps some deserving teams (eg, Auburn in...was that '06 or 07? and Boise) would get their shot.
  20. Speaker? What speaker? You say there's a speaker in that photo?
