  1. I'd go $250...they are pretty beat up, grill cloth is not original, there's also a bad tweeter in them as well...and DJ work?!!! I'd love to rescue these and bring them up to standard (but no room in the inn). I have a friend in Denver that could hold them for me, but I'll opt out. New grill cloth, woofer, tweeter, refinishing (more like re-veneering) - I'd be in about $557.50 (that's not including the labor I'd put in for re-veneering) + the $250 to buy them. Now if they were K-horns....I'd take that investment.
  2. I too am shocked that this isn't gone yet...but, at the same time...not shocked. I blame Dolby Atmos for this not being gone yet! A lot of potential buyers have a wait and see attitude now . GLWYS because it is a wonderful piece of gear!!!!
  3. Salk always puts out a nice product!
  4. I use Danish Oil myself - all of the previous ones mentioned are excellent! One thing to remember - these oils can spontaneously catch fire. Make sure your wiping towels are either placed in water, or hang them out to dry outside - make sure they are not touching each other nor are they balled up. Congrats on the Forte's!!!! Oh, if you don't feel comfortable with the oils - Amish Wood Milk (Dutch Glow) works pretty good too.

    Cancelled

Looking at the pics, the year, and the probability of having to recap the crossover, I'd say $1400 to $1900.
  6. One plate amp...not that I know of. I'd use a Crown X series or a Behringer EP series or iNuke. You can buy iNukes with the DSP option. Or you can keep you current set up and buy RCA cables with passive volume controls on them. I use 2 Wharfedale SW-380's and disabled the power amps in them (one got cooked by lightning and I didn't know it until the rest of the system was replaced). I use a Behringer EP4000 that runs the SW-380's and a pair of SVS 16-48 subs (I have a speaker selector switch where I can choose either just one pair or both pair). It's plenty loud and tight..measured pretty good too!
  7. Ditto - we've talked at length before! I was calling on a pair of Belle's that he had for sale but they were already gone. He told me about these and said that he had thought about selling them. Very good guy from my neck of the woods.

    Dobly Atmos

So that's just TrueHD you're listening to...not Atmos (and TrueHD tracks sound great). Although the Atmos track is there - it can't be decoded without the proper codec. My present thoughts on Atmos are "enough all ready". It seems as if we're running in surround circles. Remember with Dolby Pro-logic we had 5 speakers (no sub- matrix-ed mono surrounds) - it was pretty good. Then came the Fosgate, Meridian, and Lexicons with their steering logic and tri-fields, this is some of the best surround sound that I've ever heard bar none. It had a dimension of height without height speakers. I wonder if its because surrounds of that day were required to be placed higher up on the wall (the Fosgate SD180's were special in this regard)? Hmmmm? Then we come to AC-3 and DTS with discreet channels and a LFE channel (5.1). Extremely good stuff, but now there's a lot of localizing of sounds and sound mixers creating un-natural effects. At this juncture I choose not to use direct radiating speakers in the rears - only di or bi-polar speakers (I've stayed that way till this day). Then we come to 6.1 and 7.1. I skipped 6.1 and when straight for 7.1, lovely! When blu-ray and lossless tracks emerged - something happened...the surrounds all of a sudden came down to ear level! I don't care if Dolby supports this and teaches it - I've always stayed with the surrounds being at least 2 ft above my listening position and a diffused sound field. This sounds more realistic IMHO. I could never have rear speakers pointing directly at me (unless there were 20 rear speakers like a theater - hello, that makes the sound diffuse also). I've had sounds that pan from front to back, go over my head with a good sense of being surrounded - not just on the sides but over my head too!!!! Diffuse sound field and proper positioning!!!! I can locate sounds when necessary but the overall environment is believable and natural. To me, Atmos is just bringing back the entire soundfield by using more directional speakers as actual objects. Problem is - I had this with rears that are placed higher up and are dipoles or bipoles! I'm getting off the merry-go-round, why - because its fun for a while, but you realize that you wind up back at same place you started. I'm just sayin'
  9. Price? And man! I was just in Birmingham last weekend (Vestavia Hills)!!!!
  10. No, Foley is in Alabama - just west of P'Cola - my neck of the woods
  11. Yes I believe so.. Yep - they are out to 33khz or 35khz.
  12. I'm very familiar with them....I use them with my Cornwalls. I have them blended very well with my Corns - you will need to build a crossover with a L-pad for them! I love mine - adds an airy quality to my Corns without being fatiguing.
  13. Selling my Essence ST with my H6 Daughter card. Gives a PC 7.1 true analog RCA outs, Burr Brown DACS and switchable Opamps. It's a highly reviewed card and is listed as a Stereophile Recommended component. I'm selling it because I have moved on to pro gear and I'm trying something new that just came down the pike !!!! The ST sells for about $200.00 alone - I'm going to offer the package of the Essence and the H6 for $125.00 shipped. I have the original boxes, manuals and all cables.
  14. how much? i posted a picture to let you know what one looks like. Oh, Ok
  15. No router (although I can get a hold of one). Also ....no plans!!!! If anyone has the plans for the vertical mortorboard that would help too !!!!
  16. I want to finally go to a vertical Cornwall for my center channel, I can DIY ( I have a cabinet that I can use) or buy a single
  17. Well, I'm using 2 Corns and a Heresy for the center and I love it!!!! I used to use three Heresy speakers for the LCR...and I loved that too! However - the Corns are just on a different level when I revert to 2 channel music.
  18. Amy...that's some of the best news I've heard today!!!! I understand Klipsch must make money, and they must appeal to the new school crowd. I'm glad to see that Klipsch will continue be innovative, not just wit pocket sized and lifestyle products, but with traditional products as well! Fears abated!!! @Micheal Ray, I may not have bought a new pair of Klipsch....but I've help sell quite a few pair of brand new Reference series !!!! They're my go-to HT ! I don't work for a dealer, but a lot of people ask my opinion when it comes to HT, so I can say that I have my share of sales
  19. My fears are starting to come to pass. I see that more attention is being paid to the portable/wifi area than any other (IMHO). My question is what's Klipsch vision for the future? I'm beginning to see similarities of what happened to Altec Lansing and Acoustic Research. Looking at CES I saw a lot of lifestyle products for sale, mainly headsets (gaming), Bluetooth speakers, and the like, I also saw another company totally abandon its founding principles...Thiel. The new speakers say nothing of the heritage of that great company, the new speakers will be something different all together. With Klipsch it seems that the Heritage line is just a monument to the past, and the Palladium line is similar to Snell's death knell (with the fantastic Illusion loudspeaker, then the company goes belly up). I know Klipsch is going to be around for a while - but I'm afraid that the direction is shifting drastically. I'm just marking time right now to see what happens (things like canceling lines like the Palladium and or RF) if those things happen ....look out. My hope is that Klipsch stays relevant not only in the mass market, but in the mid to high-end speaker market as well. Do any of you see any changes that "disturb" you at all? Chime in if you do - or if you don't. I would like to hope that I'm just being paranoid - but like I said ...I've seen this show before.
