  1. Welcome to the forum. This site has so much great information that any additions that you could post would be used my members.
  2. I had no idea, that's what you did for a living. Do you have access to have any custom stuff done? I lost a hand hammered ring that I had made years ago and want to have it duplicated.
  3. I'm going to make her an offer and see where it goes. The pictures were only a small portion of what's there in 78's and a thousand or so albums. I'm going to have to break down and get a heavy duty cleaning machine, which brings up a question about cleaning the 78's, since I've never owned one, is there anything special I need to know about handling them?
  4. During a site visit with a client yesterday, she started talking about an album collection that a former renter had skipped town and left and I told her I would like to take a look, and in her home and in a garage are thousands of albums from picture albums, to crates full of albums to these strange cases loaded with albums. I didn't have time to do anything but glance and take a couple of shots, but there's cases marked WW1 and WW2 and many names that I'm not familiar with along with some older country, but again, this was at a glance. I said I had no clue who most of them were and this could just be a truck load of junk, but something tells me to make her an offer, I just don't have a clue what it should be. Any input?
  5. Keep in mind that power is subjective and on this forum, it's been stated that rb5's need a ton of power to bring them alive, but I'm running a set with a Sansui GF550 and at 1/4 volume they are rocking. It comes down to what your hot botton is and not what you're told sounds good.
  6. Keep in mind that I don't know squat about crossover design yet, but the number of chokes and caps is totally different in these two designs. What was the reason for changing them so drastically?
  7. I have a perfect Onkyo TX SR 805 that's for sale, as I'm diving into the realm of seperate gear and small bank accouts.
  8. If we are going to do this thing, then there needs to be a point person ( trying to be sensitive here) to coordinate the effort. I will post or e-mail everything I have on the Jubs, by why don't we take this a step further and post all of the technical data on all the home DIY variations and get organized. The Jubs, the Jamb's, the Cornscallas, and everything this forum has to offer. It has taken me a year to find dean's post on his crossover upgrade ( the one with all the glue from the hot glue gun 2004), it shouldn't be this unorganized with all of the tallent that is here.
  9. You can just daisy chain the subs. Run from the receiver to the first one and then connect the outputs of the first to the inputs of the second.
  10. Went to see it and then bought it so I could hear the sound track on my own system. Great flick, even if you have never been a fan. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!
  11. I own the 15 and have listened to the 10 but never the 12. I would have to think that there will be a noticable diference based on the huge difference between the 10 and 15. I've been trying to find a 12 for a while, but they seem to be in short supply.
  12. HT room is Onkyo 805 RF 7's 3 Carver M200t's bridged driving the 7's and one driving the RP 3's (L&R center) on the sides of the TV and RC 7 under the TV with RSW 15 Sub, RS 7's side and RB 5's rears, Oppo 981 and have the Sansui 8080 wired into the 7's for straight 2 channel listening. Bedroom Integra 890 driving RP 5's and a old JVC Cd player Shop (just did it yesterday) Sansui G5500 with RB 5's and Velodyne 1250 Sub and a POS phillips dvd player. ( Sounds wonderful) Had to hook something up while I convert the pole building into a cabinet shop to build a set of Jamboree's and Kitchen Cabinets.
  13. Do you remember what make and model it was? Getting into the midlife (44), I need a great magnifying glass too![8-|]
  14. Thanks Dave.......for I am the "non-techy" when it comes to this stuff. I only own cd's and vinyl. I've never used an Ipod, mp-3 or any of this new stuff. Sooo, would you say that it's much like an Ipod with the ability to record in live situations......with better sound quality? To be honest, I'm just getting really turned off by the sound quality of my cd's. Don't have the bread to splurge on a serious turntable/cartridge (nor do I really want to anyway). For not being a techy, you sound like that is what you're looking for and to be honest, I am too. I put some money into a good turntable and cartridge and I have to admit that my clean vinyl sounds better than most of my cd's, but what I'm after now is the nirvana of clean quality recordings with the technical ability to have it at my fingertips. Playing an album or changing out a cd, is not a process that I enjoy, and would rather hit enter on the remote or laptop and hear exactly what I want and have it be very good, even if it's not the best, I can settle with very good. Is that what you're saying?????????
  15. I'll check out the Hakko, I was reading through an old thread that Dean G posted in 04 on crossover updates and mods where he mentioned a rope method of desoldering that he preferred to the bulb method and then found dual stations with the air and stick in the same station, this is just one of those purchases that I want to make once and have the same rig for the next 10 years, as there doesn't seem to be a ton of difference in price to get more gadgets with the station ($80-300), but if they don't serve a good purpose, then I won't blow the extra coin on it.
  16. Looking to purchase a solid station for my personal use only. Looking for suggestions on what's the most versitle for the money, 100-200, is hot air (never worked with) a good feature to have, and what's going to last. Primary use will be building and rebuilding crossovers and basic board work on my own stuff. While I'm asking, what's the easiest method or tool to use for desoldering on a board?
  17. Many years ago when I owned a bar in N.E. Pa., we selected their speakers for the bar. I can't remember exactly which model they were, but considering price and performance, they were a great choice.
  18. Yes they are. Go to the garage sale section under the thread RF pricing and there's a pair of RB 75's that may still be available. I'm telling you that you will not regret the decision to go with the large models. Here's the thread http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/127792.aspx
  19. I'm going to find a local dealer and give it an audition.
  20. What area do you live in? I'm sure we can track down a member that has some stuff you could listen to.
  21. I've stated this quite a bit in other threads and now that I know your main concern is 2 channel, I will state it here, as some others have already suggested. Find a good vintage receiver, be it Marantz, HK, Sansui and it will blow away the technics. Find out who's close to you that has some gear that you might consider and have a listen.
  22. Thanks for the link. It was exactly the explanation I was looking for.[Y]
