  1. Great calibration tool. Allows you to quickly set whatever angle desired for table saw, band saw, etc. I friend of mine recently bought one and it's very slick. Here's a video tour (bottom right of page).
  2. Just saw these KG2s on the Bay. Good price so far, though zero feedback is a definate con.
  3. Have had it a couple days now, and it's great! Has lots of power - definately moves woofers. The music has such a robust presence through it. Very very pleased.
  4. Welcome Awsom71. Nice garage setup you have there. Careful......the Klipsch pandemic may invade more of your living room!
  5. Welcome Glassman! There is endless info here as you have already tapped into. Sorry but I don't know the answer to your Cornwall II question. Someone will come along..... Glad to hear your Cornwalls are blowing you away! [Y]
  6. James, He doesn't have a website. I sent you a PM with his contact information. If anyone else is interested, please PM me.
  7. Yes, before having it repaired I had to see what it sounded like. Upon receiving it there were two blown fuses. I replaced them, and hoped that would be it. Turned it on - the left channel popped and hissed badly. Hadn't even put music on yet. I disconnected the left speaker and enjoyed the right for a couple songs, then shelfed it until the repair. Too nervous it might blow something, itself or a beloved speaker. It's been many months since hearing it so a "before and after" comparison may lean toward the subjective. The tech over the phone yesterday told me what he did to repair the HK, and I can't remember now. He said the Kenwood needed a cleaning badly (sound would come and go at random) and that's it. When I pick them up Tuesday I'll ask about the HK again AND write it down. He had a few Sansui receivers waiting to be repaired. I'm sure every unit is a different situation, but I could ask about a ballpark figure for a Sansui update......? This will be the third time he's repaired stuff for me. He's sincere and doesn't cost a lot. I'll get back to ya'll about the sound.
  8. Bought it from dkalsi for $40 + shipping six months ago. Here is the purchase thread. Finally brought the HK to a tech in the Milwaukee area a few weeks ago. It's fixed up along with an old Kenwood I've had from my parents. Going to pick them up next Tuesday. Both of them repaired for $70 - Woot! Looking forward to having some more (fully functional!) vintage receivers around.
  9. I have compared KG4s to Forte IIs, and it's Forte IIs for me. The KG4 is a very good speaker but, like you said, two-ways sacrifice some of that midrange. A/B-ing between them made the KG4 sound canned compared to the Forte II. Those KG4s modded with Crites would bring it to over $400 (if you send them the crossovers). For that money, I'd get the Fortes. Hope this helps.
  10. As long as the dust cap is the only issue, I think that's a decent deal. Here is some glue for the repair. Lay the speaker so the woofer is pointed at the ceiling. There should be no debris behind a dust cap. Make sure it's immaculate in there, then glue the dust cap to the woofer cone. You'll probably see a dark ring where it was glued before. Glue it in the same spot. Use enough glue so it barely starts to squeeze out the sides with slight pressure. The weight equivalent to a CD case should work fine. Let it cure in this 'clamped' state for 24 hours. It dries clear and shiney, so a little glue peeking out around the dust cap is OK. Good luck!
  11. Welcome to the Forum, Reiner. Glad to hear you are plunging headlong into Home Theater! Sorry, but I do not know those KPT-8001s at all. Your question would be better received (more will see it) if it were it's own thread. Go to the top of the "Home Theater" section, here. Then click on "Write A New Post".
  12. Ironsave, Same here. A good portion of my music collection leans toward the thicker/heavier, but I own all genres. Get into any Mastodon, Baroness, Meshuggah(their None EP is excellent), Big Business, or Lamb of God? Pelican and Russian Circles, both from Chicago, are two bands that do heavier instrumentals. Rock on!
  13. I really enjoy Mark Lanegan (of Screaming Trees fame), especially his work with Queens Of The Stone Age. Haven't found anyone else around me who gets him.
  14. dtel, highly recommend "DJ Shadow - Endtroducing..." Has all the rappish beats, without rap. It's a great chill out album.
  15. Haha, that's the spirit! When I bought these we talked price and he knew they could go for more, but just wanted them gone earlier than later. I didn't haggle with him because of the cabinet rattle....didn't want to jinx the situation. He was a very cool guy, and we talked for about 1/2 hour after they were loaded in my car.
  16. Ironsave, an update already: My bro and I have been emailing, and he's visiting Madison the middle of this month. If he and I have time the KG 5.5s will be auditioned, and he'll give his feedback. He doesn't know about them yet. I plan to bring him over to his storage space (where I put them), and say something like,"Where the hell did these come from?!?".
  17. You have the most flexibility in looking for a sub. You don't have to worry so much about timbre matching as you do with your fronts(L, R, and center). I think the SW-10 would work very well. If for some reason, through Craigslist or wherever, you find a bigger SW or a more modern sub, go for it. The bigger and more powerful the sub, the more laid back and effortless your low end will be. Congrats on the KV-1, and good luck in your sub search.
  18. Too many.....on the brain now: Morphine - Cure For Pain Ray LaMontagne - Trouble Brian Eno - On Land Robin Trower - Bridge Of Sighs DJ Shadow - Endtroducing... Dave Brubeck - Time Out The Orb - The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. II Terre Thaemlitz - Soil Bach Cello Suites - Rostropovich or Byslma or Wispelwey Meshuggah - None Clutch - any album. but for now, Elephant Riders Glen Hansard - Once Fu Manchu - Eatin' Dust Tom Waits - Blood Money Ben Harper - The Will To Live
  19. is very cool. Thought to share with y'all.
  20. Welcome Jonnyd. I also have a pair of KG 3.5s and enjoy them very much. Here is an older post that has some center channel suggestions. If you want to go a cheaper route with a sub, look for one of the Klipsch SW series. They were made during the KG era. Smallest to largest, there are the SW-8, 10, 12, & 15 models. Here is an SW-8 on Ebay. They do not have an "auto-on" feature. Just a switch on the back that you manually turn on and off. You can find great deals locally on craigslist if you search often. Good luck in your HT quest.
  21. CECAA850, I made it without any drips, but yeah I probably should have used a drop cloth. So excited while repairing, it didn't occur to me. Iron, If my brother passes on them, for whatever reason, I'll contact you. Sound good? Don't hold your breath - it may be many months before he comes home.
