  1. In my rather revealing Yamamoto A08-S I found a noticeable difference between the EML-80 tube and a NOS 80 globe tube. This is the only amp I did hear an improvement when changing the rectifier tube. Usually I upgrade the small pre-amp and signal tubes first and the power tubes second. Wb
  2. Make that 'Tube Amp'. I use 5AR4 and 80 Rectifiers in two different pre-amps/amps. Wb
  3. Government Supplied: Bread - Check. Circuses - Check. Marijuana - Nein!!
  4. The current oil price is absolutely a symptom of the ongoing significant slow down of the production of goods based economies in China, India and Brasil. The lack of continued and growing demand for petroleum along with the increased supply (through increased producible reserves) will have the world's producing countries locked into a race to the bottom. Soon that could manifest in bankruptcies worldwide (of entire countries) that will make Greece look like a small hick-up. Imagine what will happen in the Middle East if Saudi Arabia is among the first to fail? The period from 1929 to 1939 was the last time this kind of economic uncertainty happened and the fallout was WWII.
  5. I recently acquired a couple of items that have upped the audio quality of the music I'm playing. First I updated my existing tube DAC with an Yulong D8 MkII DAC. After putting it through it paces playing music from my PC and CDP for a hundred hours (breaking it in) I decided to tryout a replacement Player for PC sourced music. The player being JRiver 21. Now after spending time comparing it Media Monkey I'm pretty happy with this new player too.

  7. So Neil Diamond was wrong when he sung 'I am... I said' and this? "Did you ever read about a frog Who dreamed of bein' a king And then became one Well except for the names And a few other changes If you talk about me The story's the same one"
  8. I see you can even setup your PC for control from a remote. Something I don't plan on trying.
  9. I use Media Monkey and/or Exact Audio Copy for ripping and burning. Both were Free.
  10. I'm taking advantage of a 30 day period where I can access a media player on my PC for free. Its called a Media Player but I'm just interested in test driving the Audio Component capabilities at the present time. In addition to allowing me to play DSD and DXD audio files through my DAC I'm pretty impressed with the ability to use this software's controls in place of a pre-amp including bass management, etc. There are a number of reviews of this software including this 2012 on-line review here: http://thedigitallifestyle.com/w/index.php/2012/07/24/mini-review-j-river-media-center-also-how-to-use-it-as-an-audio-output-for-windows-media-center-and-others/ I have no affiliation.
  11. Think of these files as SACD files on your hard drive. The difference is you use a DAC in place of a SACD Olayer.
  12. Files are really large. For example: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes in 24-bit 352.8kHz format is 685MB when unzipped.
  13. Put enough time in on my DSD Capable DAC since its arrival and finally had some time to download and listen to music in DSD audio format and I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far. Some of these files are massive which at this point seems to be the only down side. They're are also rather expensive to purchase but I've just been downloading free sample files so far.
  14. If you are not playing DSD or DXD Files. You might want to consider Media Monkey. For free the price is certainly right.
  15. Here's mine. not cheap but I've got some expensive iron hooked up to it:
  16. This being my first AR type rifle (Daniels Defense DDM4 V11 Tornado) I just want to get comfy at 50 yds first before reaching into the next county! Scopes as big and heavy as the Hensoldt are for bench shooting long distances. I would not think of hauling it out into the bush unless I could hire a couple of bearers to take turns hauling it.
  17. Here in the land of ice and snow you cannot (legally) push snow off your property onto a city sidewalk or road way. You shovel it on to the grass.
  18. I prefer German optics on my rifles. This monster, made by Hensoldt for example, has the best resolving glass I've seen:
  19. Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll check them out. Wb

    Ulcers

One big contributor to the epidemic of overweight people is the consumption of large amounts of high fructose corn syrup. The commercial use of this product started with soft drinks and has spread to prepared foods. Even most commercial made ketchup has supplanted sugar with HFCS. It has me reading the labeled ingredients of everthing I buy at the grocery store.
  21. I had an Iphone which someone stole before I purchased the Samsung. I quite like the Samsung as well but with daughters using Iphones and one thousands of miles away at school it just made more sense to go with Apple this time.
  22. So far so good but I only purchased it last night. Didn't like the default tracking mode it came with as a default... so I fixed that first. Its larger and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy it replaced. There also seems to be many more apps for Apple. It fits with a case into my pocket but would be too large for a lot of people.
  23. I believe a number of the older tube amps and receivers made by Fisher and Scott were made to run a center channel. I've never seen/heard of anyone who ran three speakers from one of these amps but always wondered what it would sound like.
