  1. One of my uncle's, along with all 4 other cross country skiers he was with that day were killed in an avalanche west of Banff, Alberta in February 1990. The Park Rangers needed nearly an entire week to find them and then dig them out. It was described to us as 'a once in a 100 year event'. It cleared the mountain side of every tree and boulder. I had the unhappy task of having to identify his remains at the Provincial Medical Examiners about 5 days after recovery as his remains were frozen solid. When a slide like that pulls every rock and tree down the slope for hundreds of yards I can assure you they did not go quietly into the good night.
  2. Never forget: Like medical doctors the drug makers bury their mistakes.
  3. Down to a 2 Dog Night. "If there's a Rock n Roll Heaven they must have a Hell of a Band. Band... Band!"
  4. Thinking of driving south a portion of the scenic highway 1 from the Great White North this Fall. Last time we did this was July 2006 heading north from Phoenix via LA into Oregon. Anything we need to be aware of other than early morning fog when driving this route this time of year? I'm thinking slope stability concerns with precipitation, etc.? Also, wondering if people are smoking weed and driving more in Washington State given the recent change in the law there?
  5. I record to my DVR and watch when/if I have the time. No commercial is worth watching, as are most things on TV, so I just skip past the commercials. All of them.
  6. My AA XO's are both not new and not refreshed. There were made by one of the XO builder's here 'a few years back' for another Forum Member here, who subsequently sold them (via the Garage Sale) to me. I believe the seller also sold his Belle's separately here as well. I still have one Belle running with the Type A/4500 and the other running the Type AA XO's. They have two different K-55's in them too. I am just too busy with work right now but hope to have the 2nd Belle upgraded this weekend.
  7. Been thinking about this for the last couple days. I think I will sell the driver's and hold onto the XO's and the K-33. I'm more likely able to find Klipsch Driver's easily then the XO's and replacement Klipsch Woofer. The woman that patrols the places where I tend to store things will be happy to see two boxes go out the door in exchange for the two boxes that came in recently.
  8. Logic, when women are involved, is not always an option. Then obviously whatever you do will be wrong! I'm also, so far, hanging on to a pair of Crites' A/4500 XO's that have been replaced by Type AA's. Then there's the NOS Klipsch Woofer that I acquired when I purchased my now gone and still lamented Cornwall's. A former Prussian King called Frederick said "he who defends everything... defends nothing". I'm guessing that I may be exceeding the bounds of 'everything' Klipsch here.
  9. Logic, when women are involved, is not always an option.
  10. That makes it 3 to 1 in favor of selling in that my wife insists she gets 2 votes on everything. If I don't sell them they may just disappear into the 'fog and night'.
  11. Replaced both the K-77 and K-55-M Drivers in my 1982 Belles. Should I keep the old original drivers as readily available spares or sell them? All 4 drivers test good and sounded good when pulled.
  12. I don't like them. They are kind of cool that they are tool-less, but the good part stops there. The wire is inserted through the center of the plug, then separated 360 degrees around the bearing area and screwed tight by hand. I find I can't get all the wire in a 12 gauge to make solid contact with the bearing area. The real deal-breaker for me is that the tip is a screw-in that constantly comes loose. The idea of a screw-in is so you can change between the tip of a post or pin type, and that of a banana plug. Good idea, the reality just doesn't work, at least for me. Try using some thin tape thread wrap like plumbers use or a dab of the weakest Loc-Tite style adhesive.
  13. Patient: "Doctor my neck hurts every time I lean my head 45 degrees to the left." Doctor: "Stop doing that!!"
  14. Helps sometimes if everything you buy looks exactly like what you already own or they arrive when she's out shopping for shoes... and you can install them quickly out of sight. Women are curious (like cats) but pretty visual.

  16. If you don't get answer from someone on the forum here, I should be in the Greater Phoenix Area the following week. PM me here with a general idea of where you are located there on how long you plan to be in town.
  17. I had a fairly new tube that had an intermittent buzz like hum. Drove me absolutely crazy and the local tech couldn't reproduce or ever hear it. I have a buddy who's an electrical engineer who asked to take a quick look when he was in town visiting. 2 minutes later he found a extremely small, barely visible crack in a solder joint. He re-flowed the solder and poof no more buzz.
  18. BEWARE, this could mark the beginning of a locked thread! Al K. Lots of good technical stuff has been posted for non-technical types like me. Between 'the lines' in some cases. I'd hate to see this thread get locked down as I doubt the last word on this has been written.
  19. Perhaps her significant other's equipment is (self) over described by him as well.
  20. Silly me, when it comes to speakers I just trust my ears when they tell me what they like. And I listen to them. Every time.
  21. Rodney King: "Can't we all just get along?"
  22. All I can say with respect to XO's I've owned built by Klipsch (originals), Bob Crites (A/4500's) and most recently DeanG (AA's): - All make excellent sounding XO's. It is only because I'm hearing the Klipsch original XO's some 25 to 30 years I can't know how the originals sounded new. I have not purchased any ALK designed and produced XO's because of my listening habits today (i.e. low power tube amps) but his reputation for making excellent sounding XO's is very well established. We Klipsch heritage speaker owner's are extremely fortunate to have a great group of diverse XO maker's still providing products and services today.
  23. I agree. Maybe the PM function would be best for your back and forth. I'm not singling out you or Dean, but as you previously stated, there's a lot of good reading in this thread and I believe everyone would like to keep the thread open, active and unlocked. Going after each other is not conducive to thread life. Probably not conducive to the blood pressure numbers of some of the participant's either.
  24. Only way I'm letting something else drive me from point A to point B is if I'm dead and therefore no longer capable of pushing in my clutch and rowing the stick shift from gear to gear.
