  2. ---------------- look at the title of the thread! "best CD changer under $500" ---------------- My oversight! Still think for the amount of dollars to be spent, the single disk units recommended thus far, would afford more musically involved listening than a changer CD.

MY LOCAL DEALERS CARRY YAMAHA,SONY,AND MARANTZ.THANKS. ---------------- Text says looking to replace a CD Changer. Doesn't state that replacement should be the same. I try not to assume, and allow the requestor to qualify their intent.
  4. I would like to suggest adding an additional $100-150 to your budget and buy a used Jolida JD100A Tubed CD. The Ah! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 is a highly praised tube unit too, I'm just not sure as to its current resale pricing. http://www.audiogon.com/index.html This link to Audiogon is where I purchased my used Jolida JD100A. Ive been very pleased with this player in its un-modified condition. Hopefully, others will have suggestions as well.

Jeff, Hate that you have to sell them, but If you lived in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><?xml:namespace prefix = u1 />Toronto (249 miles), I'd be there to get them this weekend. However, Quebec City is 735 miles from my Michigan home. I have a pair of mint 85 Cornwall I's that I would consider trading (see Cornwall 2-Channel System photo from profile link). If they arent sold by 27 May 05, I'll come up and take them off your hands. BTW: What year are they and any mods/updates? Sincerely, Wes

  11. I would be more fearful if little ones or teenagers have unsupervised access to your system. Control knobs are like toys to little ones & we all know what teens are capable of.... Checking control settings should be SOP before turn on, if others have access to your equipment.
  12. Give Van Morrison a listen too. I like Avalon Sunset, but his seventies releases are also good. Visit your library and check to see if they have any Van Morrison CD's or other recommendations. If so, you can check-out and preview. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Seti, That was an hilarious WKRP episode. I remember the exchange between Les Nessman and Johnny Fever: Thanks for that on-the-spot report, Les, and for those of you who just tuned in, the Pinedale Shopping Mall has just been bombed with live turkeys. Film at eleven.
  13. Woud like to know if anyone can provide a copy of the NAD 4300 Owner's Manual? If so, please email me.
  14. Klipsch Bells should certainly not sound flat. I would not immediately replace crossovers or other network components until I confirmed that all drivers work properly and the crossovers are indeed the culprit. The best way to check the tweeter and midhorn operation is at low volume, with your ear directly at the front of each. Speaker positioning is also critical to good performance, mine sound better away from back wall and in from the side walls. Definitely check polarity as others have stated. If the problem still exits after the other recommendations, then see if you can borrow a pair of AA or A Crossovers to determine if they make a substantial improvement in their sound. Patience and perseverance will reward you in the end.
  15. Kind of cool how he bought speakers in 1976, that are coded as being made in 1979. Perhaps his memory is a bit rusty.

Why would one want more competition and higher prices? Bask in knowledge, that those soundless idiots will not pursue these big ole horns!
  17. Good to hear your loss was minimized by a nice pair of Forte's. Congrats to the new buyer!
  18. Congratulation on your Heresy speakers. Your Serial Numbers break down as follows: They were manufactured the 042 day of 1992, the remaining sequential numbers assigned were 0586 & 0587. Hope you enjoy them for many years. Wes
  19. E, W & F - From what I can recall they were ok. I was really a fan of Kool & The Gang. To me, these guys were the funk masters, and they were great jazz artists too. Those in the know will remember Kool Jazz, a great LP with tributes to Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan. It's an out of print release, buy a copy if you can find it. I also remember blasting Summer Madness during the summer of 74 from my 1974 Olds Cutlass S, with swivel buckets. Had just returned back to the World! Doobie Brothers - I became a fan of theirs after hearing The Captain and Me, circa 1973 and remained through the Michael McDonald years. Pat Metheny - Not familiar, only know he's a guitarist.
  20. Below are instructions for building custom risers for Heresies. Thay were posted by a member who built many Heresy speakers when he worked for Klipsch. Simple, huh? ----------------
  21. I'm glad you like your Cornwalls, but can't believe you prefer them over your La Scala's. I truly like my Corn's but they are no match (IMO) to what the Bell Klipsch can deliver. I even prefer their bass to the Cornwall's. Hey, if it KLIPSCH, they're all GOOD!

  24. Erik, As I mentioned in mails last week my Cary SLP-94 sounds very good with the DRD 45s, especially CD play. However, I was having insufficient gain issues when using the phono section. Even with a Hi-Out MC cartridge, the signal was not adequate to drive the 45 amps to their potential volume levels. My search for a needed MC Step-Up is over! I decided on Cary, and sent the SLP-94 preamp off for modification. They will install an internal step-up transformer. The mod will allow me use my current 2.5mV HOMC cartridge, plus allow for future changes to a LOMC cartridge, as Cary will install a resistor in series so as to not overload the SLP-94s phono section when using the 2.5mV cartridge. With lower out put cartridges a flip of a switch will remove the resistor for their use. <?xml:namespace prefix = u1 />Having sufficient gain for the phono play was the only issue I had with my Cary preamp, but I believe that hurdle has been crossed, or will be when my preamp returns. Im now using my Conrad-Johnson PV14L Preamp and EV-1 Phono Stage. Im missing some of that airy/nice inner detail you mentioned, but theres a distinct midrange presence. Those missing details I believe are due to the extremely warm nature and tone imparted by the CJ components. The most startling display of strength is bass IMPACT (relative to SET amps Ive heard). The CJ Pre allows the 45s to produce better best bass (grip/impact) than the Cary Pre. For reasons beyond by knowledge, the CJ works well with the DRD 45s. I found this to be an extreme opposite when I tried them with my Laurel 300Bs and Klipschorns. I agonized over the thought of being without my Cary, but Im now at ease knowing the CJ pre/phono will serve as adequate back-ups till my Cary SLP-94 returns. Though good..I dont see them as replacements. Wes
