  1. If you would like to hear some nice full range drivers in that ball park I have some very nice ones and I am right down the street. Good luck with you sale!!!!
  2. I think it is only fair now, that if they showed you their bowels, you should show them yours.
  3. My vote is for an HK HD7600ll, It is very fast and has buttons to easily program tracks, built like a tank weighs about (25lbs). It also has digital output and sounds very nice. I have an OPPO unit and an NAD and I prefer it by a large margin. I read that one user said it ran circles around his simaudio equinox and another user after breaking his looked long and hard for a better replacement and ended up with a jolida tube unit that was almost as good. It came out in the early 90's and was fairly expensive I think around 2000.00, one mag rag, said it was better than some 3000.00 dollar machines. They usually sell for around 200.00 now
  4. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to meet forum member Cut-throat for a listening session with his modified Khorns. The Idea was to compare a panasonic digital amp, to one of his very nice tube amps. Unfortunately, we never got around to placing the digital amp into his system. I left the amp with him, so he could make up his own mind and to see if there is any synergy with his set up and space, and also to try a more high powered chip amp. Cut Throat has a lot of amps, of many different types, including a small watt chip amp, and many beautifully restored, vintage amps, in mint condition. First off I was surprised by the scale of the Khorn, even though they sit in the corner, it is a large speaker. Also I was really suprised by how small the sweet spot was for such a large speaker. This could be a product of the room itself or the design, this I dont know because this obviously is a room dependant speaker design, and I know very little about the Khorn, this being my first listen. Another suprise the khorn creates a sound stage like no other speaker I have ever heard. There exists a folding of sound from what I heard, that encompasses the room like nothing I have experienced when you are in the sweet spot. Listening to classical music, I actually had the illusion and feel of the stage rumbling like I was in a well designed concert hall, when over hundred musicians chime in at once. This was a wonderful experience!!!! If you have a chance too listen to a pair, and if you like BIG SOUND and a HUGE SOUND STAGE these might the speakers for you!!!!!
  5. lonelobo great news, very happy that things are coming around, it will take some time, but enjoy the ride, find the positives!!!
  6. Dennie I was going to use your recommendation for the Shure cart but found a reveiw that said it didnt match well with the yamaha px-3. I did a little research and found a list that place the ortofon 2m red as one of the 18 best deals in high end audio and can be upgraded with the 2m blue stylus. I asked the needle doctor about the 2m red and the person I spoke with agreed saying it sounded better than some much more expensive units. The positive reveiws I have read are right on, great open mids that sound very realistic, nice highs but not to bright at all and the bass is slamming, everything sounds tight and tidy, which really surprised me....it does suffer from some very slight innegrove distortion so hopefully the new stylus will fix that????
  7. Great for you Edroom, They do look great, and sound even better!!! I was blown away when I finally got it set up with a new cart. If you dont have a manual you can download it from the Yamaha web site. Set up was very easy, but the table has to be perfectly level, make sure the stylus is set at 50mm. Also from what I have read the feet on these units tend to breakdown with age. I found a nice DIY foot replacemant over at audiokarma and posted picks here of the process. Good Luck with set up and let us know your impressions!!!
  8. If you can find them? Try raising some Scottish highland beef my neighbor had some and the are very hardy and highly prized for their meat. My other neighbors have regular types and they cant compare from what I have heard as far as taste and ease of raising. Plus they look very cool, and the queen keeps a private heard which some say it is the only beef she will eat? Now I am thinking I wish I ate beef...........
  9. I dont know what speaker that is but I did see this movie and it is ..... I always thought it was some homemade Altec type.....
  10. I dont think it is the manufacturers fault. 2 years is a long time for wood to be laying around in a modern factory, every batch of wood is slightly different and they may of changed stain, or oil companys or wood distributer. Did you tell them that you were trying to match a 2 year old single and maybe send them pictures? If I were you I would ask klipsch to sell you some veneer that more closely matches the one you like better for a future reveneer although you really can't match the grain maybe the color would be closer?? I bet they would even give you a discount.....
  11. Mike585 didn't you know? first there was beer goggles now there is Klipsch goggles.......
  12. "where does the Klipsch airstream come from " pic on the top left, it looks like it is coming out of her a$$. LMAO
  13. Not a horse racing fan, but I heard a funny call between two horses on a sports show recently.... you should have a listen... on you tube...... Wife knows everything vs. wife doesn't know.
  14. As far as reveiws of these amps, the most striking I have found is of a gentleman who has spent over 250,000 looking for amps and preamps and a sa-xr 45 was his favorite amp. This guy may be a little off, but these amps are suprising...
  15. Quiet Hollow I did run it in the digital domain. And I am not saying I dont like chip amps. I am sure they are the future for many companies. I have had 2 Pany units and they do sound very good and for the cost they are scary. Top to bottom they are very balanced with almost an abscence of grain. I prefered them vastly to many solid state units costing 10X's the cost of these units. Cut- Throat I sent you a PM
  16. Rivernuggets or anyone else who might be interested? if you are ever up in the twin cities area? Like many, I have tube amps, solid states and a chip amp. I'll buy the lobsters you bring your ears
  17. I have a chip amp, and with some cd's it sounds very good, with some other cd's it does seem to sound a bit "electronic" sounding and lacks what I would call weight. I dont know if this is a product of this particular amp, or this amp with my speakers. I do have a friend who had a bel canto chip amp after selling it, he couldn't put his finger on why he didn't like the sound. Someone he spoke with, who is well regarded, in the higher end audio amp building circles, put a finger on it for him, he said " they have no soul ". It just might be they are very accurate reproducers of digitized sound, which inturn sounds a little fake or unreal. I know when I hear auto tune with peoples voices in my car, I find it hard to listen to because it removes what I think is one of the aspects that makes music interesting.,
  18. pm me with his address and I will help. Thanks
  19. I am suprised to hear this, I ABed a Ta series integrated against a vintage technics sa-700 with some suprising results. I found the TA to be overly warm, and lacked upper end detail and separation and had week bloomy bass. The build quality I was not overly impressed with either.
  20. This sounds like a fun event, wish I lived closer, would love to hear some of this gear. keep us updated on how things turn out........
  21. Speakerfritz, congrats on your new Belle purchase!!!! I think it is a matter of your space, where you sit, ideal placement relative to your room.( wall and floor density included) I have seen people who have raised some very expensive speakers above the manufacturers original height design because of their spaces and tastes. Remember also, it is about saving materials from their perspective.....Good luck!!!
  22. Don't have a dog in this fight, wish I had......There is not alot of sport that can create the drama a playoff hockey game can. The book the code is an interesting read..... lots interesting info about the way the game works, and how hockey culture is part of the game itself. Good luck to all your teams and safe passage.....
  23. I thought this was going to turn out alot worse........ I thought she was going to grab the volume knob, or place her drink on top of your cab or dump the whole glass on to something... this is kind of a funny story, I think most of us are a little anal about our gear
