  1. Yeah, the Wendy's In my area leaves alot to be desired in the friendly service dept. Not only that it seems that 50% of the time they are out of the item I was trying to order. How can a fast food chain be out of stock that often? And (while I'm venting) the combo meals regular chicken sandwich combo & spicy chicken sandwich combo are the same price, but order the spicy chicken alone and it's 50 cents more than the regular chicken alone. Now I can afford the 50 cents but the priciple of this irks me. I question it & get told that it's a special item. What's so x@*%~> special about it? It's the same damned piece of chicken - combo or not! OK, now for Burger King (my favorite fast food burger). Remember how you used to be able to "have it yor way"? What the heck is so hard to understand about the word "plain"? Is it because they don't have a "plain" button on the register or a large glossy photo of a naked burger to go by? I no longer use their drive-thru and I always check my order before I leave the building in hopes of having it "my way". Thanks guys. I feel better now. BTW Did I mention Popeye's? Just kidding!
  2. BBB, I saw your reply in the Hammond organ thread. That's a good looking set of Yamahas. I like the color. I have an old Tama Superstar set in candy apple red. I have used Yamaha cymbal stands in the past. I always found them to be more versatile for placement, angles etc. I knew Lee Michael's drummer was "Frosty" but I didn't know his real name. Thanks for the musical trivia. I always enjoy that stuff. As of 1/1/03 I'll be a retiree. I have to find a way to turn my knowledge of music trivia into some kind of job that I can enjoy.
  3. Of course I'm sure you complimented him on his drumming skills. Did you praise him for his eye-hand coordination and stick control?
  4. I'm partial to "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Vince Vance and The Valiants. Love that late '50s early '60s sound. Also like "Please Come Home For Christmas" by Eagles.
  5. Can anybody join the married guys not gettin' any club? I'm on my second marriage. 1st wife was my age. Current wife is 16 years younger than me. My theory was that she wouldn't wear out as quick. WRONG! Soon as I said I do, she said not anymore you don't. And oh!, oh! menopause runs early in the women in her family. Lucky me. Not bad enough to get the cold shoulder, we have to sleep with a fan on high blast in the middle of winter - damned hot flashes. Due to my marital experiences I've developed the theory/philosophy that music will get me through times of no sex better than sex will get me through times of no music. Damn I love my Klipsch (and porno - lots of porno). Sorry, just needed to vent.

    DTS / DVD's

I had a similar problem with Peter Frampton "Live In Detroit" DVD. I finally checked out the bonus materials and there was the audio set-up with the DTS option. It was worth the search. This DVD also has a good interview (approx. 30 minutes) with Frampton that was very interesting.
  7. Audio Flynn, I've got another 10 years on you. I love the sound of those Hammonds. I used to play drums in a local band doing casuals. Our keyboard player had a Hammond Port-a-B. That was heavy enough as was his Leslie (small - not the big wooden cabinet). I couldn't imagine lugging around the B-3. Tripping back in time. I bought the STAX box set when it first came out. It was worth every penny. It also has a very good booklet with it. Some other Hammond players to check out from way back when are Lee Michaels. He got a lot of radio play with "Do You Know What I Mean" from around '71. I think there is a CD collection of his songs on Rhino Records. From the late '60s you have Mark Stein with Vanilla Fudge on "You Keep Me Hanging On" - R&B psychedelic style. One of my favorite Hammond players is Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals. They did a killer version of "In The Midnight Hour". Great organ run down in it. Gee, these guys kept covering the old soul songs - wonder why? Anyway, I just wanted to toss out a few more songs with the Hammond on it for folks to check out. When I was out demoing speakers I always took along someting with a B-3 on it. Well, gotta go. My wife is getting ready to go shopping - now I can crank up my RB5s to a proper listening level.

    Eric Clapton

I was at Walmart the other day and saw the CD of this. In looking around a little more I found that they also had a set containing the CDs plus the DVD (don't know if it's DTS - wife will be wrapping this up for Christmas or I'd be jammin' now). The cost was only $7 more than the plain CD set. I went into Amazon and compared the track listings for the DVD and the set I got at Walmart listed a track not listed by Amazon. Could be an ommission on the part of Amazon. Anyway it seemed like a good deal at the time. CDNOW also sells it both ways.
  9. Ditto for "The Official Price Guide To Records" by Jerry Osborne. You can get this through www.amazon.com. There is a new 2002 edition that just came out in November. I waiting on my copy now.
  10. Got my copies of LR "What's New" and Yes "Fragile" through www.dvdplanet.com. Prices were reasonable. S&H was $2.50 for first item and then .50 each item after that. Seems like the prices for DVD-Audios are dropping on the internet. Still kind of high at Best Buy.
  11. Mike, If you're interested in classical piano; check out Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata". It's pretty mellow, but very soothing.
  12. Just got Linda Ronstadt's "What's New" DVD-Audio. This was her first recording with Nelson Riddle & His Orchestra. I was really looking forward to the strings and horns. I wasn't disappointed. Ronstadt's voice is fantastic and the instrumnets have a full, rich sound. I was really impressed with the sound of the sax. Well, gotta go. I also got "Fragile" by Yes and haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
  13. I'm going to replace my cables (audio and video) after the first of the new year, when I move my HT system from an entertainment center to a Sorice open rack (so I can get to my connections alot easier). At present I am using mostly Radio Shack cables with gold connectors. I recently had a problem with the RS connectors being so tight it pull a piece of the input out of my TV. Fortunately I was able to get it back in, but it was a hassle.I don't want to damage all of my components because of these cables. I'm considering Acoustic Research and a Monster sub cable. Has anyone had any problems with any other cable connectors being too tight. Anything I should avoid? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  14. I agree, E.K. & Orch. put out some very good recordings. I'd really like to get this 1812 on DVD-A but I never seem to run accross it at BestBuy. Do any of you folks know of any on-line retailers who carry this particular recording? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I also heard Sonus Faber speakers (don't recall which model) about a year ago at Tweeter in Delaware. They had a very good sound, but I kept going back to Klipsch RB5IIs. Matter of fact nothing else I listened to gave me the goose bumps I got from Klipsch. I eventually purchased RB5IIs and have never regretted it.
  16. I second the recommendation for "Rumours" & "Hotel California". "Rumours" also has some interesting annecdotes about the song writtings and recordings. I had picked up a bunch of DVD-As before I had a DVD player that was DVD-A compatible. Got a JVC about a month ago and hooked up the 6 analog connections. Whoa! I thought the DVD-As sounded good before. It's like night & day. Now I have to go back and listen to ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery" and Deep Purple's "Machine Head" (what can I tell you - I'm one of the older guys on the forum & love my classic rock). I also recommend Carly Simon's "No Secrets". For blues fans, check out Eric Clapton & B.B. King's "Riding With The King". Somewhere earlier in one of the topics I had recommended George Benson's "Breezin" DVD-A for jazz fans. I must now toss in a disclaimer. After hearing it on my JVC with the proper DVD-A analog connections, "Breezin" is a very weak mix especially compared to some of the previously mentioned titles. They did not do justice to the artist or his recording. On the horizon, I'm lookin forward to Linda Ronstadt's (I know a few people think I'm nuts, but I love her voice & at her peak she was quite a looker) "What's New" with Nelson Riddle/Orchestra. Can't wait to hear those strings & horns. Wish they would put out some of her earlier recordings (i.e. "Hasten Down The Wind" & "Simple Dreams")on DVD-A. "What's New" is due out around 11/19/02 as is "Fragile" by Yes. Another must have for my collection. I've also seen some rumours on another site that Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" may be released on DVD-A sometime in 2003. Well, I've rambled on enough. Catch you folks later.
  17. I also recommend the Clapton/King "Riding With The King" DVD-Audio. Great songs & great sound. As close as you'll come to having Clapton & King in the room with you. I'm also interested in the new Clapton CD, but haven't heard anything off of it yet.
  18. talktoKeith, Glad to hear the albums are in such good shape. I remember the Buckingham/Nicks album when it was first released (on Polydor label I think). I have some old Johnny Rivers albums also. He always did some good Chuck Berry tunes. I always enjoyed finding covers of songs made popular by other artists in the middle of albums. I used to make up cassette tapes of nothing but cover songs for my car. It's amazing the amount of Motown songs that have been covered over the years. Of course all those British guitarists were into American soul and blues music. That made me go back and check out some of their influences. I think blues music is about my favorite at this time, but I still listen to a wide variety - just depends on my mood.
  19. tblasing, I had a pair of the Bose 601s that I bought in 1980. At that time they were a good speaker and I also thought the 901s were not worth the extra couple hundred they wanted for them. When I started getting ready to put a surround system together I began looking at the Bose cubes. Then the young lad at BestBuy let me hear the 301s and I figured if I was going to go with Bose I'd go with 301s all around with a center channel and a sub. Then a friend played his Energy Take 5 system and Bose was completely out of the question for me. Then I was checking out Klipsch Synergy, Polk, Mirage, Sanus Faber, back to Klipsch and finally ended up with Klipsch RB5IIs,RC3II,RS3IIs and a KSW12 sub. The Klipsch speakers gave me the goose bumps that I got back in 1980 when I bought the 601s. I Love My Klipsch. It's like hearing alot of my classic rock for the first time.
  20. talktoKeith, Sounds like you got a wide variety (Beethoven to U2) for your $75. I'd make sure I hang on to that Buckingham Nicks (Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks) LP. I've seen that particular LP in collector's guides valued at about half of what you paid for the whole box of LPs. Little treasures. Enjoy the music. BTW, what was the Johnny Rivers LP? I always enjoyed his music.
  21. I have the RB5IIs and love them. Great imaging and soundstage. I use them 50/50 movies and music. It's like hearing some of my older (being an older guy)CDs for the first time again. I hear alot of little nuances I never picked up on before. Never heard the RB3s. I went from cheking out the Synergy SB3s to the RB5IIs and that was it. There was no turning back. I highly recommend the RB5IIs.
  22. Hey BBB. Thanks for the BB info. I received my order on 10/9/02 the day after I had noted my displeasure. Life is good again. I'll probably give them another shot. Their prices are reasonable, plus S&H is free.
  23. You may want to try out www.dvdplanet.com. BTW - I did a preorder of "A Hard Days Night" through BestBuy. It supposedly was shipped around 9/23/02 and I haven't received it yet. I'll be sending an e-mail to their customer service soon. Anyone else had any problems online with BB?
  24. Like Orange Peel, I too started out checking out the Synergy series. Then I heard the Reference series and there was no turning back. Both sound very good, but the Reference series is definitely a bump up. I have the RB5-IIs, RC3-II, RS3-IIs and a KSW12 sub hooked to a Denon 3802. I love it for movies and music. Enjoy the journey.
