  1. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1077375090 This is the same guy that rebuilt my TD-124. There was a followup thread here, where you could spend your next 6 months reading: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1157059532&read&keyw&lenco&&st0 Mike
  2. I ran my La Scala's for years with 511B horns, and they were a significant improvement over the K400 horn. Now granted, I had ALK Universal crossovers and just needed to adjust the tap settings to dial down the horn. I never felt there was a gap in the midbass, and they more than made up for it in the midrange. Mike
  3. Me too!!! These are absolutely gorgeous! Please update us with your listening impressions. It's been over 3 months! [H]
  4. LOL... yeah, not sure why I didn't think of that. []
  5. I'm using an Acurus A200X3 (200 w/ch) for HT and VRD's (60 w/ch) for 2-ch, so I should be ok with the 1.5A fuse that's in there. Mike
  6. Hmmm... I have a 10db peak at 40hz in my room. That has been corrected within the HT rig, but not the 2-ch. I don't think I have ever gone that loud with the VRD's. I have the Crites woofer btw... are the numbers the same for it? Mike
  7. I was stationed in Hessisch Oldendorf from 1978 - 1982 (Air Force), and bought many an album at the local record store in Hanover. I'll bet I bought 100 albums from that place during that timeframe. Many of them German pressings, which I think very highly of. That brings back some nice memories. Mike
  8. Thanks guys, it was the fuse. I'm back up and running and all is well with the world. [] Mike
  9. OK, thanks guys. From looking at the fuse while it was still in the network it didn't look blown (no brown around the end caps) but it appears to be the culprit. I can't see very well but can you confirm if that is a 1/2 Amp fuse? Thanks, Mike
  10. I have a pair of Khorns that have Crites woofers, Greg's V-Trac's w/BMS drivers, Beyma Tweets, ALK universal networks and closed in backs. Can these really be called Khorns at this point? [] Anyway, recently I picked up an Anthem D2 processor and finally got around to running the ARC (room correction) software, and found that my left woofer is dead. I am attaching the graphs from the measurements as well as the room corrections that ARC makes. As you can see there is nothing in the lower registers from the left main. To confirm I played some music I am very familiar with and there is definitely nothing coming from the woofer in the left speaker. I'm gusessing the sub has masked this for awhile but you would have thought I would have figured this out. I disconnected the woofer connection on the network and put a voltmeter (set to Ohm) on the disconnected left and right wire, and it registered 3.8 ohms, so the woofer appears to be good to me. When I follow the woofer connection on the back side the positive goes to a big red copper inductor, and the negative is bridged to the negative on the low input just like it is on the right speaker, so I'm not sure what the problem is but there is definitely nothing coming out of the woofer in that speaker. I emailed Greg but haven't heard anything from him yet. Are there some other things I can check on the network to determine if the issue is there? I guess I could swap the networks on the 2 speakers but it looks like that might be easier said than done (will definitely need some input from Greg before disassembling). Thanks for any help you can provide. Mike ARC Room Correction.zip
  11. Wow, that is an amazing room and system! The networks are truly a work of art, and they look perfect on the walls. Can I ask what they control? Are they handling the crossover work for all 5 main speakers? Mike
  12. I was originally looking at the Table Tuba as well, until I found out it only goes to 30hz. I am going to share the sub between 2-ch and HT so I opted for the THTLP (Low Profile), which can get you in the low 20's. I am having this built as we speak, and my builder is going to do the gloss black piano finish just like Carl did for his Tuba 18. It should be done in the next week or so. I'll post pics and my thoughts after I have had a chance to dial it in. Mike
  13. OK, I missed that he didn't have an HDMI receiver. My Denon 4800 was like that prior to the Anthem, and like you I always used the Analog inputs on the 4800 for DTS, DD5.1, etc. The DACs were just better on the DVD player.Mike
  14. I wanted to believe this as well, but am not so sure. I have a BDP-83SE connected to a Anthem D2. I am using the HDMI cable and the 5.1 inputs, and have experimented with both. After long deliberation I prefer the HDMI input. The 2-ch analog outs on the BDP-83SE sound fantastic though (great DAC). I have those connected to the BBX on my 2-ch rig. You're just down the road from me. Maybe you can swing by and we can fine tune it. Mike
  15. Gilbert, I have been looking as well, but not seriously at this point. I have a 3009 series II on my TD-124 and I am very happy with it, but I would like to see what all the fuss is about with the 3012. Like the 3009, the 3012's to have are the series I and series II (sometimes referred to as series II early) arms. Especially when wanting to mate with the heavier cartridges (SPU, Zu DL-103, etc)... so you would want to stay away from the series II Improved, and series III arms imho. Mike
  16. Tony, I remember that contest very well. I think it was 2002 or 2003, and the grand prize was a new pair of Khorns. I entered a letter about my adventures with Q-Man picking up my La Scala's in South Florida, but I guess they weren't impressed. :-) Anyway, sorry to hear about your brother selling your Heresy's. I always say, what comes around goes around. [] Mike
  17. Yeah, to be honest I can't remember if they ever hooked up. Al may be able to shed some light on it though. I can honestly say I love my ALK's. I have heard a number of networks with my since sold La Scala's (AL's, AL3's, AA's and ALK's) and much prefered the ALK's. I am now using a pair with my modified Khorns (V-TRAC/BMS/Beyma CP-25) and they are definitely the cats meow. Mike
  18. If I had to go out on a limb I'm guessing Mobile, Craig, Jazman, and possibly a couple of others that didn't get along too well. []
  19. For the 2nd time in less than 2 years these earphones have crapped out on me again. Now it's the right one. Come on Klipsch! Get your crap together! I have read numerous issues with the C3's and you guys have done nothing to improve the product. Paul is probably rolling over in his grave witnessing this. Mike
  20. This is rediculous! My 2nd pair just died in the right ear 2 days ago! Mike
  21. Congrats Indy! That's quite an accomplishment! 10 years for me in another couple of months! Mike
  22. I have tried 4 or 5 tubes now in the VRD's, and nothing sounds better than the NOS GE 6550A's imho. Mike
  23. Jay, Are you going in a different direction, or is this for a 2nd system? Mike
