  1. Go to Promedia. This is pro audio. You'll get an answer there.
  2. Please take this to the ProMedia section. You will get better results.
  3. Zero is a reference level inside the preamp or receiver. Depending on how it is designed, 0 may be no gain (power amp gets the voltage sent in by the VCR) or it may be some arbitrary preamp output voltage such as 1.14159265 V with an input voltage of another arbitrary value such as 600 mV. Either way it is the reference level the engineer chose. In most cases, the reference level is also the point where maximum power will produced *IF* the input voltage reaches it's arbitrary reference level, 600 mV in this case. In my case, my phono cartridge has very low output. I could clip the power section in my old integrated amp at 2 o'clock using the CD player (typical), but could not reach clipping with the phono at maximum on the volume. The preamp did not have enough gain at +20 to get as loud as the CD would at 0. That's the input reference thing.
  4. Trey, That sure is an "odd" color!
  5. That's what I thought after looking at them on headphones.com. I need to find a pair in person.
  6. Gil is almost always correct. However, I'd like to add one other possibility. A larger horn will load the driver to a lower frequency. If Klipsch is using low order crossovers (12 dB/octave) loading the driver to a lower frequency will increase it's power handling capacity. The lower cut-off of the larger horn means the driver doesn't become "unloaded" just below its crossover frequency. That means the diaphragm won't hit the phase plug and clack or shatter.
  7. Thanks for the recommendations. i looked at Headphone.com, but I haven't seen what I want, yet. The PRO4AAs might just be it. What I know I want is a pair of David Clarks that have audiophile, stereo sound.
  8. I stuffed the tops of my La Scalas with polyfil. It clearly reduces a ring when you wrap the top with your knuckles.
  9. I have been able to find out the '02/'03 La Scala has a Type AL-4, so the K-horn should have an AK-4. A guy sold a pair of AL-4s on ebay (he was triamping). He could not send me a picture.
  10. I want a good to moderately good set of headphones for mixing sound. They have to be the isolating type and should be smooth and have flat frequency response. There used to be a heavy Koss model, but that was YEARS ago. I have owned and likes Sennheiser, but they let in too much ambient sound. What's available now?
  11. I like the PCM track of the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over". "Monkey see, Monkey do."
  12. I like the PCM track of the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over".

    No Phono

I think I'd spend more than $30. There are several outboard phono preamps out there. I use an Aragon, but Creek and others make some nice ones. Try to look in the $100 range.
  14. Jeff, Please post pictures! try to get one goo close-up of the new crossover.
  15. Based on my personal preferences, 1980, after March to 1982, before the K-55-M. The important thing I'd be looking for is the solder terminal K-55-V.
  16. Aside from being too darn ugly for home use, they would be a pretty fair match for La Scalas. I tested them as rear channels. Mine had the same squawker and tweeter as my La Scalas and the crossover is a slightly modified Type AA. They sound "hot". The squawker and tweeter are run at 104 dB and the woofer is said to be 103 dB at best. I found they made female singers soumd sort of like they had a chest cold and lots of older rock recordings were quite tizzy with highs. Recordings of acoustic music sounded good. Mine will be an outdoor PA, so they'll work well. Mine had 5-way binding posts and I'm sure they are 8 ohms. John

  18. I use 2 VMPS Larger Subwoofers with my La Scalas. the results are excellent. With a 70 Hz crossover and properly adjusted level, you cannot tell there are subs in the system. I am doubtful "speed" has application with subwoofers, but in any case, the VMPS blend naturally with my La Scalas. They are more than "fast" enough to match and with 2 plus 450 wpc, loud enough. At first I had one and it was enough, when placed in a corner, for all but the loudest rock and roll sessions.
  19. Thanls! That's just what I was looking for!
  20. I use a Parasound HCA-1203A to power my fronts and an HCA-1000A for the rears. I like them a lot. They are clean and the high bamping factor controls the bass very well. I recommend them for use with Klipsch. Don't the 2205s have MOSFETS? They should sound a little different if they do. Some say better. I can't say either way.
  21. The Type Al network began in 1982 for the La Scala only. There are similar versions for the Belle and K-horn, Type AB and AK. It was used with the K-33-E/K-55-M/K-77-M drivers. It will work with any model of La Scala with those drivers and presumeably a K-horn as well. Though not intended, it should work with a K-55-V squawker too. It is a miserable sounding network. It is excessively complex and the sound is muddy as a result. It should be thrown away. If used in an emergency, it should be replaced as soon as possible.
