  1. Although the perceptible delay may be on the order of 100ms, there is another imperceptible delay you need to consider. The delay between your ears is much of the reason you can tell from which side of you a sound came from. That is less than 1ms, and it is very real. This is one of the reasons Audyssey and other surround units want to know speaker distance to 6" precision.
  2. Awesome stories. I have had a couple M3's, and they are true driver's cars. I have been thinking about getting rid of my S2000 and getting another M3. There is something about the way BMW's handle that I like. My bike is even a BMW. My wife's RR Sport supercharged is 510 HP. It's a beast and way too quick for an SUV. I'm not sure why the soccer-mom cars are all such beasts now. Check this out. These are all SUV's (aka soccer mom cars): Benz AMG G65 621 HP / zero - 60 5.1 sec Bentley Bentayga 600 HP / zero - 60 3.5 sec BMW X5M & X6M 575 HP / zero - 60 3.7 sec Benz AMG GLE63 585 HP / zero - 60 3.9 sec Benz AMG GLS63 577 HP / zero - 60 4.5 sec Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 570 HP / zero - 60 3.8 sec RR Sport SVR and RR sc 550 HP / zero - 60 4.4 sec Tesla Model X 532 HP / zero - 60 3.3 sec! Cherokee SRT 475 HP / zero - 60 4.5 sec
  3. You can sort by size then delete the big ones first. That will make bigger dents each time since it is one by one. Personally I use Imgur.com and post links to the pictures rather than uploading them to this site. At imgur I upload full size then post the link to the size I want: Full (Click to see bigger size on this one): Huge thumbnail Large Thumbnail: Medium thumbnail: Small thumbnail: Big Square (160x160): Small Square (90x90):
  4. This is a great find. Sooooo many people have come to the SW forum asking about these plate amps and what to do. We finally have an answer that doesn't include buying a Bash from PE and making it work. Thanks for the review and the tip! PS: I see they have other stuff for sale. You think there is any chance they would throw something like this in on each repair job? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Playboy-Magazine-July-2000-Playmate-of-the-Month-Neferteri-Shepherd-/281976074832?hash=item41a7157250:g:84kAAOSws4JW8U3t
  5. LOL, throw in some adhesive and you might just make an actual living abomination. How cool would that be?
  6. That's a good thing... One thing you didn't mention was that POTUS threat could have been forwarded to the US Secret Service. Not that it would amount to much, but deleting the evidence might have been a bit quick. Since you had the guy killed I suppose evidence isn't really pertinent in this case. BTW, I am Craig also. I was wondering why the heck anybody in their right mind would ask me a question about push-pull tube amps.
  7. No idea about the ribs. I think they are like racing stripes. They make the speaker "faster". We should have a franken sound competition where the entries create a working sound device, tubes, phono, speakers, or whatever. There are lots of DIY-ers here and lots of them have spare crap laying around. The trophy for the overall winner, could be a frankenstein head that is made of tiny speakers and wires and tubes and stuff by a handy artsy craftsy type person right here on the forum. The winner would be awarded at the 2017 Hope Gathering, and subsequently turn the trophy over to the winner the next year. The entry has to function how ever well. The entry has to be made of a bunch of spare crap they have laying. The entry has to look like something that was made from a bunch of spare crap they had laying around. The entry cannot be something that would look right anyplace nice. Are there more? Have I gone too far? Forget about Steam Punk, we are going to start a new thing called Franken Sound. Brought to the world from the Klipsch forums!
  8. Someone correct me if I am wrong. The rule of thumb is 1ms delay per foot of sound travel. If a horn path is say 9' longer with a THT than a LaScala, then the delay would be about 9ms between the sub hits and the LaScala bass bin hits. That delay can be tweaked to correct phase comb filter problems. Case in point. When you let Audyssey calculate distance and you are using horns, the microphone always thinks the horn loaded subs are further away than the tape measure. It then adds delay to the other speakers to account for this greater distance. The rear of a tapped horn driver is 180 degrees out of phase with the mouth of the driver at the 1/4 tuned frequency so that the effect of the 1/4 wave hitting that driver then makes a second trip through the horn to make it a full 1/2 horn. As frequencies go up, the driver begins to recouple with the horn to make it a 1/2 horn. The Tapped Horn
  9. Well said Chad! You are setting a great example for the rest of us! I am getting used to it now. The silver bullet is the "Unread Content" link just below the bell. I am not a fan of all the gobbledygook before the actual "Forums". That is non-typical. I don't even look at the recent posts on the side because of the silver bullet. I personally think you should do away with the "Featured Topics" and "Recent Topic Activity". The "Announcements" is a good thing which allows you to steer folks. Could there be a forum vote to see what others think? Thanks again Chad
  10. It looks like a cool project with some spare crap you have lying around. I say go for it. While you are at it, build a box and put like 5 misc drivers you have laying around in it and use this as the tweeter. Put in a simple 2 way passive network. Wire the thing so it has like 8-10 DCR. You could call this speaker Frankenstein's monster and we will not call you Crazyman because we will call you Dr. Frankenstein. You could sell it on ebay for dollars and dollars!

Lot's of folks want 402's in or out of boxes. I would like 3 of them so I can finally biamp my KPT-904 bins. Unfortunately, it's not in the budget right now. Also, I don't have a place to set them up.
  12. Mainly you don't discuss religion or politics in open forums. That get's out of hand and people get pretty nasty with eachother. I get why Klipsch doesn't want to be represented that way. After all, they are a company. As for other moderation, it is usually more about people just being scorned and lashing out. Thin skin is the main culprit there. Instead of intellectual banter and sparring, people start name calling and acting beneath themselves. Enter the moderators. . . Hope that helps. And yes, there has been a good bit of moderating done lately.
  13. Wow, you know your stuff! That is an old thread, but I'm glad you responded to it. Lot's of folks have troubles with some older Klipsch amps and especially with the ProMedia lines. I take it from your response that you are comfortable working on plate amps. Am I correct? How did you learn about it?
  14. Yeah, right. That thing is lucky if it puts out 35 watts with all channels driven. It claims 70 with 2 channels driven, and I bet that's a huge overstatement. Frankly, if this guy wants an AVR with 150 watts he will never find one outside a pre-pro. They don't exist.
  15. No, a crossover is there to make each driver output the frequencies it is capable of. The high's to the tweeters, the lows to the woofer and everything in between to the midrange.

Is this another case of a scorned woman who hacked her ex'es forum password? Those little speakers in the middle are KPT-684's, aren't they? I have a pair of 684's and they are giant dual 18" subs.
  17. I posted this ad a while back as a joke : Hi - my name is Stephan, I have a pair of speakers which I am reluctantly placing up for sale. Normally, I would NEVER have even thought for a second about selling these, but I am retiring and planning on living in a small Airstream. These speakers have seen almost no use as they belonged to my grandmother who only used them on Sundays to play church music. These speakers are very rare and I am not sure I have seen more than 5 in my life, and certainly never in this condition. Due to the size of them, I will not ship. Local pick-up only at the Walmart parking lot. I will be the guy with a patch over my left eye. Payment must be made in advance by cash or I will accept copper. You will never find another pair of speakers like this. Hurry up before I come to my senses and change my mind. do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers
  18. Or run through APC SmartUPS's with a pure sine wave.
  19. 3D is neat, but I don't like it as well because of the focus. If you try to look at something the mixer or cameraman isn't focusing on, it will be blurry. If you still frame on HD you will see what I mean. With non-3D, you can look at areas not being focused on, and they are more in focus. I understand a lot of this has to do with depth of field, but with 3D, there is more to it than that. Try watching the same 3D movie a second time. When you want to look for things you missed, you will get a headache trying to focus on blurry stuff. Some day there will be a truly painless immersive video experience, but IMO 3D isn't there yet. It's a gimmick.
  20. I didn't expect such a change matching that center. Thanks to Dave (wvu80) for bringing it to my attention. I wouldn't say the M sounds better than the V, since I had been using the V as a center between 2 M's for a couple years.
  21. I got the K55-M's and I am glad, at least in my center front speaker, that I made the swap. I never realized the K55-V was the reason for the timbre mismatch between the left and right with K55-M's. I always thought it was something being done in the preamp. Now when I do the level calibration, the center sounds the same as the left and right. For those of you who have matching front LCR be sure that your drivers match! Lesson learned! Thank you Mark. Sorry that FedEx is taking an extra day getting yours to you. In this case the USPS wins over FedEx. That isn't usually the case...
  22. Crossovers will not add bass, as the bass roll off is caused by woofer in it's enclosure. I have a set of Heresy's I run without subs. I have LaScalas I run with subs. It really depends on the music and the venue for me. The best subs with Belle's and LaScalas are horn loaded subs. They tend to be much larger, but the sound is seamless to the fully horn loaded speakers they are mated to. Horn loaded subs have been discussed frequently in the Subwoofers sub-forum.
  23. Take poll then respond to @Rxonmymind here: I have a pair of Belle's. Beautiful, sounds great etc. On many many post I hear how this Klipsch or that Klipsch model lacks bass which has me scratching my head. I recently hooked up my newly recapped & fully restored Sony STR 7055 to them and decided to play U2 Joshua tree CD. The CD player is appropriately a Sony dvp-s 770 0 model. The CD first pressings by Island "records". Third track "with or without you" the in opening riff I was floored. The rumble the bass took on was much like a home theater sub type dimension. This song doesn't have the boom, boom opening but one continuous type. I could easily feel the lower octaves vibrate through the sofa I was on. What I'm getting at I think bass is very music dependent and not every song will have it. Thank the music gods. That would be annoying. Now switching over to my stock Realistic 2100D that had not been recapped the bass was not as authoritative and didn't have a lot of rumble. Kinda mellow. This from a receiver putting out 125 watts per channel vs the Sony 35 watts. The Sony EASILY beat the Realistic in every category. I wonder if adding new crossovers will enhance the bass it even further? The change from stock Sony to a fully recapped one was pretty drastic and noticeable. I'd like to read what speaker you have added a subwoofer too.
  24. I'm pretty sure the V stands for Virtual.
  25. The transparent side screens is a nice touch:
