  1. Wow Art! It was nice talking with you last saturday. It really looks like you have been doing some acoustic research. How long have you been working on this room? Is it been all trial and error, do you use instruments to measure the room or just your ears? I need to build some false corners for my Khorns so I can move them into a larger room, then I need to get an Oak Belle for the center, then I can work on sound treatments. I bet it sounds wonderful! Regards, Greg
  2. MCG, I believe the Manley uses EL84's and CJ uses the EL34's. I think Manley calls the EL84 the little brother of the EL34. That is the only time I have heard both tubes side by side, but I think the circuit had more to do with the sound than the tube itself. Greg
  3. MCG, I heard the Manley Stingray and the CJ CAV50 both on a pair of Dynaudio Contour S5.4's(sorry no Klipsch there). Don't get me wrong, the Manley sounded good, but I liked the CJ better, it had a more tubey sound than the Manley. I guess that's the sound I was looking for. The more I researched, the more I leaned to vintage, it is just as good sounding, for about 1/3 the cost after refurbishing. Regards, Greg
  4. I have heard the Manley Stingray, but it was $2250, and I was not impressed with it compared to the Conrad Johnson gear I heard as well. They sure have neat styling though. Regards, Greg
  5. Pat, Jamo would be a step down IMHO. I would keep the Klipsch. Regards, Greg

Also, with the FM, if a tube is out, will this make FM not work? Jim ---------------- Jim, That looks similar to my father-inlaw's GE console from about 1964-65. I had to replace the filter cap on it, (60 cycle hum) and it works great. While I had it I cleaned and lubed the TT, and put a new needle on it from garage-a-records.com for $14 shipped. It is probably a tube that is bad, you'll have to take the back off and if you are lucky there will be a tube that is not lit up. A good place to get radio tubes is radiotubesupply.com, most tubes are $3-4 ea. If all tubes work and you don't have a tube tester, you'll have to look at a schematic and see if any caps or resistors are out. But if the amp works without any hum it is probably a tube. Greg
  7. Someone will probably get them for a good price, but I think that pickled wood finish is ugly. Greg
  8. Greetings Gentlemen, On behalf of my wife and I, we would like to thank Trey, Jim, Mark, and all the rest for an excellent day. We were treated as honored guests and overloaded with info, food, music, and fellowship with all the forum members that attended. It was great to put a face with the name and set down to a wonderful meal with all. I have never heard of a company going to the extent that Klipsch did to assure our day was interesting and entertaining. We would also like to thank Trey and his lovely wife for inviting us to their home and entertaining us until time for dinner, He has a wonderful family. This forum has some of the greatest people I have ever met, it just goes to show that people from varied social and economic backgrounds can come together in one accord if they shame common interests and goals. This forum is more of a family than a company forum. I now have many new ideas for my HT, ie false corners, new oak Belle center,.... Well, back to my same old job as well. I only live 50 miles from Klipsch, hey Trey do you need any help? Best regards, Greg

  11. Most of the guys here have TT that cost $500 and up. Your best bet would be to find a used one in good condition and put a new cart on it. Some swear by the music hall TT, but some have had quality issues with them as well. I use a Technics SL1210 which is a DJ TT, and no I don't scratch I like it alot, I'm sure this will start a belt-drive vs direct-drive debate. Does the Technics sound good? Yes it does. Are there better TT's out there? Yes, but not in my price range. I push the button, it spins and plays music, it's not fussy, it does not skip, plays warped records well, and I think it sounds great. I am sure that others will chime in with their recommendations for good used ones in your price range, just watch out for ebay, you may get a nice one and if the seller doesn't pack well, you may may end up with a box of pieces. I was afraid of that so I bought mine. Regards, Greg
  12. What type of turntable do you have? If $200 is your limit it might be better to get a better cartridge for your current table. I use a Shure M97xE on mine. They are available online for $100 each with a spare stylus. It is an excellent cartridge for the money. Regards, Greg
  13. m00n, My wife did the same thing with a gas powered weed eater. Not quite as bad though. Why is it that women want to run power equipment in shorts and sandals? Greg
  14. I saw them in concert in 82, they put on a heck of a show, they are still one of my favorites. AVman is right I haven't seen many rock drummers that can top Neil Pert. Greg
  15. So Justin, that's what you look like with your helmet off. Regards, Greg
  16. That means the squawker (midrange) K400 horn is made of cast aluminum, which was typical of that time period. I paid $1700 for my 86 Khorns in Oak. It all depends how close they are to you. Shipping is expensive, they weigh 167 pounds each, and how badly you want them. i think that $2500 is at the top end of what I would pay. Regards, Greg
  17. Watch it Gary, it becomes an addiction. I had about 100 LP's a year ago, now I have 1,100 at last count. I just can't seem to pass up a LP in great condition, not at 10-50 cents each. Regards, Greg
  18. Greetings Gentlemen, My best garage sale score was a pair of Peavey SP3 PA speakers for $20 in good condition. If thrift stores also count, I bought a Scott 299B and a Sherwood S-2200 AM/FM tube tuner, both in excellent condition, in a home made walnut cabinet for $40.99. Regards, Greg

I'm buying them from sounddistributor.com I've read a lot of reviews on epinions and google etc and they seem to be ok.. I hope. My local place wants $300 more for them. For a receiver I already ordered the Onkyo TX8511 that is 100w. ---------------- They are not a authorized dealer, so if you have any problems, they will have to be responsible for any repairs/replacement, as Klipsch will not honor the warranty. Showing part of the top adds depth. BTW, Very pretty speakers. ---------------- I'll try that Clu. This picture was taken by the seller and emailed to me a year ago, I don't have a digital camera, I have to scan one in. I'll see if I have a better one at home. Regards, Greg
  22. Nice! Are you trying to become the ALK of the RF&? Have a nice weekend, I'm bailing out Regards, Greg
  23. I know what you mean m00n. We always discuss major purchases before we take the plunge, but if there is something I want, I just buy it. My wife likes to think about things, sometimes you have to act quickly to take advantage of an opportunity. I haven't put us in the poorhouse yet. Greg
  24. Congratulations! Cornwalls were the first Klipsch speaker I ever heard. Never get rid of them. Regards, Greg
  25. Greetings Gentlemen, I have found out it is much easier to just buy the stuff and deal with the dirty looks when you get home. If you ask they just say no. But of course I just use the old "at least I'm not in a bar every night" routine. It works every time. Regards, Greg
