  1. I see that you didn't read the directions. That is a 'test' button, to let you know the batteries are ok and that it is 'working'.
  2. All too true! I've seen someone ask a simple question and get ten responses - none of which answers their question.
  3. You might remember my son, Josh's 240. He was run off theinterstate one night. Rolled about three times, took out some trees. Landed upside down. All four doors open and close and the windows worked. He climbed out the window, had minor cuts and scratches... a glass chip in his eye. No airbags... just a solidcar.
  4. He has far more patience than I would have in answering those questions. Really some pretty good answers.
  5. Hmmmm... is that caused by what you are holding in your hand? [*-)]
  6. No kidding, oak doesn't have that kind of grain at all. Beautiful the way they turned out.
  7. I am using the low order crossover from John Albright, the DHA2, which is also a constant impedance type. My 2A3s work well with them. The more complex, I think the more power loss in the crossover you will have. All that being said, did anyone hear Rigma's all out passives that Roy worked out for him? I am wondering what he uses to drive them, as he does have some 300B amps (I think). Greg, keeping the wife happy is an important part of the mix, too. Bruce
  8. I've got a bunch of 12AU7, some 12AX7 tubes... and more, GE and RCA, some Sylvania. Josh pulled them out of some old gear the Physics Dept. was throwing out at school. How can I get an idea of the dates of these? Really interested, since I just got my Tubes4hifi front end board for my ST-70. I'm not real happy with my Curcio board, and I plan on doing this as the lo gain version with 12AU7s. Bruce
  9. Which reminds me of a song that one of my co-workers wrote. It' sabout an Episcopaleontologist..."When not studying fossils, he's reading the Acts of the Apostles...." It goes something like that, and would fit on w Weird Al cd with no problem.
  10. You are the one with the [bs]. I moved my LaScalas (you can look up the weight) by myself. Unloaded them from the Blazer and up my front steps into my living room. It is quite do-able, but you have to use your head as much as your muscles.
  11. The voices are saying.... buy them.... buy them....
  12. Maybe I should have added that it is very pleasing to the ear. Last year we had the Peasall sisters at the college where I work. Their family is friends with someone at the college so they came up and performed at an awards ceremony. Bruce
  13. An old paper? The article is from March of 2008. [:^)]
  14. mcp, You no longer have the HIIs? You didn't mention what the SET was. A quick guess on the bass dropping out is that the impedance swings with the HII crossovers are at fault. It also would depend on what kind of music you listen to. An 8 watt amp just might not cut it for you. My HIIs sound great with my own HK430, and I have been tempted to hook up my 3.5 watt amps, just to hear what they will do. but I don't want to move them back from my LS. I know that my rebuilt Dynaco ST-70 sounded good with the HIIs. I have it out of service at the moment, as I'm swapping out the driver board again (Curcio board to a VTA). Chorus IIs will want more power than 8 watts. The Cornwalls might work but you probably can't crank them much. If your SET amp can be switched to 4 ohm, you might want to try that. Bruce
  15. Ford owning Volvo isn't as relevant as the fact that people walk away from wrecks in Volvos all the time too. They are also built like tanks and are very nice cars. Ford got a lot of good technology from Volvo in the years they have owned them. They are both great cars. I would say it's a tough choice.
  16. Congrats! What a feeling it is... It's going to be so good, enjoy all of it you can. That's a good sized boy! My daughter had one 9lbs 6oz. this past August. They are a blessing, for sure, and your life is forever changed. Bruce
  17. Harmonies in thirds...oh yeah... very country sounding.
  18. There's a youtube posting of four of them on the 700 Club. The audio is superb.
  19. Richard, The bass player's amp is mic'd, or has a direct out on the amp head. This feeds the PA through the house console. They will have a load of compression on it to level it out and to control it. Even it they take a feed directly thorugh a direct box (a splitter of sorts, between the bass and his amp), they will compress it, etc. If it is mic'd, you will hear more of the sound he is hearing on stage. If the direct out of his amp, still more of his sound. If the direct box, the sound will be more what the house sound engineer does to the signal.
  20. I believe it was after folks heard them and said... I would like to have some of those for my home. Funny, that still happens.
  21. BR, With a folded horn, like the bass cabinet in the LaScala, this is exactly what we mean. Not far enough to be distinct, but enough that with a lower order crossover, the sound is a little blurred. Just think about it... if the bass horn was a straight horn, the woofer would be a foot and a half behind the cabinet (and mid horn driver). If the signal emanates from all drivers simultaneously, the bass freq. will arrive at your ears slightly, ever so slightly later than the mid freq. If both drivers are playing the same freq. (at the crossover region) some muddiness can occur. This is a pretty well known problem. Thefolded horn in the Khorn is even longer. It is why many are using a digital crossover on their Jubs and other other systems, as you can dial in the proper delay for each driver. Bruce
  22. Larry, the short answer is yes. Also, for anyone interested, I'm just south of Chattanooga, with a pair of LS, and 2A3 SET amps. The sound is delightful to me. A visit is possible. I don't have a high dollar setup... RS interconnects and zip cord for speaker wire are in use here. Bruce
  23. I'm not letting mine go...ok?Seriously, I will keep mine, but I do want to do some crossover mods on mine. They don't have an inductor on the woofer, for instance. It's just inconvenient to pull them out. Maybe I can pull the crossover, plug the holes and have the wires run outside the cab. while I tweak. Bruce
  24. Where are you located? Someone here ought to be able to let you have a listen if you are close at hand.Bruce
  25. Staying balanced can get you hundreds of feet with a clear signal. My Alesis amps are balanced, butuse 1/4 in. stereo jacks. Switching to unbalanced on the other end would possibly mess you up depending on: how do you swothc to unbalnaced. an adapter that shorts the two leads together won't be helping you much. Using a high quality transformer would work ok, but that will cost some buck. Here is a situation where you get what you pay for. You might be able to get by with unbalanced the whole way. Bruce
