  1. Dave, Great news indeed! I have been meaning to write to tell you that I am struggling to install multi track software on a linux box. At this point it is all free. Very good looking from what I can tell so far. But most linux stuff is user surly as far as I am concerned. Have a look sometime. Depending on the card (supports quite a few) you get 24bit/192Khz unlimited tracks. Under 5 msec latency. WHew! www.ardour.org Peace, Marvel

It's a beautiful wood. Marvel
  3. m00n, Let's make this as easy as possible. Look at my attached drawing. The rectangular box volume is easy: A x B x C For the angled section, it is just as easy: D x B x 1/2 of C Add the two volumes together. If you can't figure this out I'll try to explain. edit: My son walked in and said -- A + 1/2 of D x B x C. That makes it even easier! Don't put the ports on the top, they will just collect dust or whateve else small that might end up there. How long are the port tubes? You could put them on the sides. With the sides clamped together, you could drill those holes at one time. Don't make more work for yourself than you have to. Marvel

  5. fini, This is a great idea! In the past if people wanted music, they alway made their own, but we have gotten into the habit of putting on a tape, cd, the radio, etc. My duaghter plays piana, and for a year or more, the two of us played music for our church. THis included all the Mass parts, plus various other music for the introit, offering and meditation pieces. I improved tremendously during that year. But I was always winging it compared to my daughter. Youngest son plays trumpet, and it (for us anyway) isn't a good fit for my acoustic playing. Clarinet would be far easier to work up pieces. I just found this site the other day (Forrest, you may have seen this already). Download sheet music for free. Limit two pieces per day. See if you can find anything here. My wife found a piece she needed for her piano class. Free Scores Hope this can help. Marvel
  6. I have a '98 Blazer, 14 gallon tank. About $24 to fill up here in N. Georgia. I also get about 20mpg on it. On long road trips I get 23-24mpg. It isn't supposed to get that good mileage, but it does. Perhaps because I drive 30 miles to work, and almost all on the highway (winding state road, so I run about 50-60 mph depending on the stretch I'm on. Marvel
  7. Thanks for the links Dennis. I always appreciate the posts and any technical information I can glean from them. The humor is just an added bonus. Marvel
  8. My apologies to Frode -- I had saved the photo and the text/chart from previous posts on this topic. My memory was faulty when I posted the two together. I admit I was lazy and didn't look them up again. DJK, Do you have the schematic for the EV filter? I, for one, would appreciate it. Marvel
  9. We have used the earlier model of this SIMA product where I work. We have older commercial VHS tapes that the authors are not releasing on DVD. http://www.simacorp.com/products/item.ep.html?session=e07ffe4d2be945041eafd0ae7a939891&id=476 It is cheap looking, but is cheaper in price as well: $90 from them (they will ask what you want it for if you buy from them) Best Buy has had them as well ($60). 11. The tone is pretty awful though. Someone found this link and sent it to my wife. A lego cathedral: http://www.amyhughes.org/lego/church/photosfirst.html It is huge! Marvel
  12. I thought those knobs on the Jenn Aire would be great on my new tube amp I'm building. Marvel
  13. So... what about the crossover in the HII? Are they tricked out different because the other drivers are different? Marvel
  14. ---------------- On 3/21/2005 6:04:00 PM DrWho wrote: Using EQ to boost the response by 12dB results in 4 times the excursion and 16 times the power to maintain the same SPL. With the lascala, as long as you're not listening above 109dB then this isn't an issue. However, the main benefit to using a horn is that it reduces cone excursion. Implementing an EQ to the system will exhibit 4 times the modulation distortion. Modifying the design of the speaker with the port shouldn't change the excursion much at all or even the tension properties required for the horn throat (the springiness behind the driver is essential to HF reproduction). So in essence, the port seems like a free way to extend the frequency response of the driver. Then if EQ is indeed needed to maintain a flat frequency response, then the negative effects of EQ should be far less. ---------------- I copied this from dennis' text on the first page: "But by adding a simple two pole high pass filter ahead of the power amp we can now have a C6 with a -3dB point of 31hz. Since this is the Fb of the system there is no increase in cone excursion or distortion. The filter consists of a cap an inductor and a pot. The pot allows adjustment at Fb of +/- 3dB. This is similar to being able to change the Qtc of a sealed box from .5~1.0." You are right that it would mean little or no more cone excursion. (btw, I also added spaces back into the first quote of DJL's, so it is way easier to follow) I want to hear more of Randy's thoughts after listening some more. And if he got some other good stuffing in those boxes. Marvel

Pressing is pretty light, but the sound is excellent and has the impact packing in other DGG releases, especially with a bit of help from a DBX unit. ---------------- Seigel-Schwall Blues Band! Saw them live at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago around '69. Unbelievable show. Maybe it was the acid. Whew, that brings back memories Dave. Marvel
  16. Michael, What are the file names you used when posting the pics? Marvel
  17. Max, You will notice that the cabinets that Frode made (with the Oris horn on top) were made new. I hadn't really noticed that about NO ports in the listing. When I read that before I thought he meant there were ports but no port tubes of any length. If I were home, I would post the links to all the pics of these mods. 1. Add the box underneath (for some the added benefit of raising the cabinet to have the mid and tweeter more at ear level) 2. Build the whole thing from scratch (same outcome as 1.) 3. Enclose the top of the LS back and open the doghouse into that area. Still looks stock from the front, but you gain the benefit of the porting (which must then be ported out the back) Marvel
  18. I think Rick is correct. The "R" should mean they were replaced by Klipsch, probably as a warranty thing. Then, if it happened again, they would know they were not the original. Marvel
  19. Looks a lot bigger seeing all the pics. Beautiful room. Is that a Taylor and a Les Paul hanging on the wall at the far end from the speakers? I would think some dacron or polyester fill would work well. According to Dennis, they should have something in them. Did you notice that Frode mentioned the bass was better with a slightly shorter port length? Do you have an spl meter you can use to make some reading with? Marvel ps My wife puts up with a lot from me too. I have had all kinds of friends in the haouse to record them and she has been very gracious over the years. I've never had the money to put up a seperate studio.
  20. Since Heresys list for over $1100, you might consider the cost of the ALKs a good deal. Marvel
  21. You have those in a pretty small room, don't you? I wouldn't use fiberglass, as it can tend to break up and blow into the room. Some polyest fiberfill should work. You can order from Parts Express, or get some from a fabric store. Below is a pic of the cusom LS bass cab built by Frode. He has an Oris horn on top (I think it is an Oris). In the pick, the cabinet in on its side. Below that are the repsonse figures with the mod, using different port lengths. My buddy Thermio and I both scratch built a set of LS bass cabs and he did the djk mod to them. He took measurements on one cabinet as the mods progressed. Here is the data: 200 160 125 100 80 63 50 40 31 25 20 HZ 77 80 79 73 72 78 68 60 61 52 51 dB Stock, mouth braced 76 78 78 73 69 75 65 60 66 56 52 4.5 cuft, no ports 76 78 77 75 74 80 70 60 68 54 54 Two 4"dia 10" ports 76 79 78 76 75 80 71 60 68 54 53 Ports cut to 7" The interesting thing with 10" ports is the boxes went deep, but the snappy, fast horn sound was lost! Cutting the port length to 7" brought the snap and speed back to same as stock, plus the lows remained, esp. at the 31Hz box tuning point. This data is with K33E driver and light stuffing. We think a K43E in this box would be superb, but haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try the mods using two 4" ports with both ends flaired (Thermio used 4" PVC). Flaring is supposed to reduce distortion and possibly increase the gain. Parts Express sells the kits. Neither of us is going back to stock. Pete
  22. Most off my equipment is set flat. I'm not against using EQ, I just usually don't. There is so much difference between CDs and LPs that I leave it alone. The brain quickly adjusts... Marvel
  23. Dean, Where are you putting the L-pad in? Instead of the 65 ohm resistor he has in his schematic, or has he made another one? Marvel
