  1. Agreed! As an alternative give a listen to "Let's Go Down to the River to Pray" cut on the Oh Brother Where Art Thou CD. LOL: That cut was recorded indoors but the movie shows it as an outdoor scene. My wife was a little puzzled at first because it seemed to her that she could hear the sound reflecting off of the walls of a room/recording studio. Khorns Uber Alles!
  2. FWIW I modded my 1982 Khorns by rewiring the Type AA crossover to revert it to a Type A and liked the result a lot. I then bypassed the inductor for the woofers and found that the sound while still very good became somewhat less defined in the low frequency range and put the inductor back into the circuit. I find the sound more integrated without that modification but that said the bass was a little stronger without the inductor but overall the transition between the bass and the midrange became in MHO rather obvious.
  3. Marty's got my vote!! A small thing but he sent me a nice box set of Theatre Organ LPs and refused my offer to reimburse him for shipping costs. I am sure that the twins will help him carry them in or at least provide him with the necessary motivation.
  4. Good point. I hadn't thought about that possibility.
  5. Two ideas Buy a roll of perforated Strapping or simply buy a short piece of aluminum and drill holes at the appropiate sites. The fact is that so long as the midhorn is securely fastened the type of material used will have no discernable effect on the sound.
  6. It is safe to assume that one or more likely both output tubes are duds.
  7. LOL Many years ago I was listening to a talk radio show from Detroit ( I lived in Windsor,Ontario at the time ). At that time ( ca. 1970 ),whether Michigan should go onto DST was an issue hotly debated every year. One caller identified himself as a Christian pastor and said that man should not attempt to tamper with God's timekeeping rules. I thought noone was ever going to top that but I was wrong. A few minutes later a woman identifying herself as a teacher got on the blower and in a voice full of indignation said...My grass gets dried out enough without some fool adding an extra hour of daylight. Both of these folks sounded dead serious about what they were saying!
  8. That pic reminds me of the day that we bought our ASL AQ1003DT. My wife said It sounds beautiful but what if one of our girls decides to sniff one of the big tubes ?? I looked at her and said Just Once Dear...Just Once!! Fortunately it has not been an issue...so far!
  9. Bemp!! Clousseau: Does Your dog bite ? Innkeeper : My dog does not bite!! Clousseau: ( massaging bitten hand ) You said your dog does not bite! Innkeeper: That is not my dog !!
  10. "Well... you know the saying - If it's too loud..... LOL, just poking fun " I haven't heard that one. I do remember the story about the two ladies chatting at lunch: Betty: I find sex to be a pain in the ***! Sally: Well roll over!
  11. Congratulations!! The price is right and your 16x18x9 room should be adequate for those speakers. If they are mid eighties vintage they will likely have the AA crossover or perhaps the AL. The AA is preferred to the AL by many here. I cannot comment beyond that noting that that seems to be the concensus here as I have no experience with the AL. My 1982s came with AA's which I converted to A's. I prefer the sound of the Type A to the AA but the sonic change is so small that the improvement may only exist in my head. Before making a modification to your xovers live with them for a while. The only mods I would immediately make in your situation would be to damp the K400 midhorn with Dynamat or Butyl Rubber tape and buy some foam pipe insulation to staple to the tailboard to ensure a tight seal into the corners for the bass bin.
  12. They would probably be a decent replacement for the original 12" Jensen but they are the same price as what Klipsch charges for a replacement 15". The question then boils down to whether Alnico magnet woofers offer any sonic benefit over Ceramic magnet woofers. I won't comment as I have no basis for comparison. At the price they would likely be an alternative choice should the replacement woofer be unavailable from Klipsch or should one be curious enough to wish to compare a ceramic magnet woofer against an Alnico magnet woofer.
  13. In the immortal words of Inspector Closseau BEMP!! Anyone else have an opinion as to what those things are?? I don't believe them to be Klipschorns but beyond the Speakerlab K guess I really don't know.
  14. Oh to be 45 again! Happy Birthday to a great guy!
  15. Welcome to the Klipsch Forums. Be sure to post this question in the ProMedia 2.1 area as well. Folks down there are likely to be able to you than those of us in this area as we are more experienced regarding Home audio than Computer speakers.
  16. I have given up on live concerts completely as it has been my bad luck on the last three attempts ( Neil Diamond x 2 and Arlo Guthrie ) to have my enjoyment obliterated by shrieking bimbos a row or 2 behind me ( N.D.) and about 6 noisy boisterous drunks directly behind me who when they weren't shouting "Duh!! We love you Arlo" amused themselves by yapping loudly amongst themselves ( between F*rts that would peel paint ). Bringing these behaviours to the attention of the venue staff resulted in no obvious effort to get the boors to show some consideration. I have too many other more enjoyable ways for my wife and I to blow $250-$300 on an evening out. Thank Heaven I have my Khorns.
  17. A useful keyboard shortcut many are unaware of. If your keyboard has a "Windows" key ( The one that has the Microsoft flag symbol)press and hold it and hit the letter D. This minimises all windows and takes you to your desktop screen. Repeating this returns you to whatever screen you were on. There are numerous Windows key combinations available. I don't know whether this works in versions of Windows but definitely works in XP.
  18. They appear to D models that have been dressed up. I'd be a little leary of them as I don't think the midhorns are correct. I took another look and frankly I am not convinced they are klipschorns at all. I'm leaning toward Speakerlab K models. That mid horn definitely looks wrong and the xover doesn't look kosher either.
  19. What type of computer do you have? That site appears to be a computer graphics oriented showplace. Interestingly I could not get any direct information by Googling the URL and when I attempted ( in a moment of admitted madness ) I got a 405 error. I was able to access it indirectly by going to a site that links to it.
  20. Transformers modify the AC voltage applied to them by either increasing or decreasing the output voltage. Power transformers may have several output taps which means that an input voltage of 110 volts AC to a transformer can be output as say 6.3 volts for tube filaments and 350 volts for the plate supply and so on. Chokes are not intended for modifying the voltage applied to them but have the useful characteristic of passing AC but not DC. They are typically used in power supply circuits to bleed off any residual AC to ground thus further cleaning up the DC fed to the rest of the circuit. Hope this is helpful.
