KSW 10 Subwoofer Hook Up Questions
LHF63 replied to Texas Bone Crusher's topic in Technical/Restorations
Welcome to the forum, BoneCrusher. Yes. There, my work here is done. Oh, OK. Yep, that should work just fine. I think the KSW-10 has inputs for both L and R, so use both. #14 is fine, #16 too. Use #12 if you want to feel you've got thick wire going to your sub, but you really won't notice the difference. Put a carpet remnant or a towel under the sub. Too much echo if you don't damp the concrete floor a bit. Name like BoneCrusher, I think the mean people won't respond at all. Unless they're stupid and mean, of course. Enjoy, Lou -

Decware Mini-Torri single-ended 6V6 stereo amplifier
LHF63 replied to erik2A3's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Anyone with experience with their SE84C ("Zen Triode") amp? I was thinking about building out 2 of the mono kit versions for my recently-acquired Heresy's. Lou -
I just got here, relatively speaking. But you're real close to me, Mike. Less than 10 minutes according to Jeff's GPS. He warned me about listening to your K-horns though. [] Gotta "amen" all the good comments about Jeff. He brought the Heresy's over to my house after finishing at Mike's. I tried to pay him "Ebay price" as I'm a new member with no transaction history here, but he wouldn't take it. Great guy, no question about it. Lou

Makes sense. They've got more free time, so they can get around to lots of different precincts.

3 broad possibilties: 1. Put something heavy on top of the player, mass-loading it, 2. If your rack is heavy, strap the player to it (same basic principle as #1), or 3. Use a rubber-type disc to isolate the player. I've always liked something like the Vibrapods ($6 each for discs, $8 each for cones) under disc spinners, but I think #1 or #2 might be better in your situation. Lou

Can I connect Pro Media GMX A-2.1 to Samsung HDTV? If so, how?
LHF63 replied to varchor's topic in Technical/Restorations
Poor sound quality may not be easily fixed, as I would doubt any thought went into getting a quality signal on the TVs optical digital out. That said, the high-pitched hum should definitely not be there when the TV is off. I think you could return the DAC as defective based on that alone. There are other cheap DACs with optical input (pretty sure there's one made by FiiO) but in this kind of price range QC problems abound. Wish I had a better suggestion for you. Lou -

Good news and bad news, I think. Assuming your Sammy is the 440-series 43" (which is the only 43" current model I can find), the bad news is you can't do it without some more electronics. Your TV only has digital audio out, and your ProMedia system only has analog audio in. The good news is that you can get a converter without spending a ton of money, like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&p_id=6884&seq=1&format=2. Can't promise anything about the sound quality of a sub-$25 DAC, but at least it should get some kind of sound coming out of your speakers, probably better than what comes out of the TV. Oh, and you'll need an optical digital cable, too. Again, you can get that cheap from monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022901&p_id=1447&seq=1&format=2. Good luck, Lou -
That would be the funniest line of the last two decades, if it weren't so sad. Lou

Correction. Meritocracy is impossible to achieve because all possible criteria are by definition "ideologically aligned". [] Lou

Took my kids to a movie today; shouldn't have
LHF63 replied to USNRET's topic in General Klipsch Info
If I took my kids to the movies instead of school, they would declare me "Best Dad Ever" for at least a week. SWMBO might be a little peeved, probably would depend on what we saw. Think I might actually do this on purpose when "The Hobbit" comes out if they aren't already released for Christmas break. Lou -
MPEG-4 is an AV standard, but all the audio format possibilities are compressed. There are both lossless and lossy compression formats allowed under MPEG-4, but who knows which one or ones were used for your files? If it was lossy compression, which is likely, then you can expect no increase in quality converting it back to wav (lossy means the data is lost, unrecoverable). If it was lossless you might get some small improvement converting them to wav files. Regardless, you can find lots of converters just by googling "mpeg4 to wav converter". Lou

Places are often crowded here too, but I attribute that to the number of places that have shut down in the last few years. Housing prices are still dismal and showing little if any upward trend. Employment prospects are bleak, even for the min-wage service jobs that dominate the metro-Orlando economy. Federal Income Tax looks several kilobucks higher for 2011 even though I made and gave away pretty much the same as in 2010. I make good money, but I'm still looking at used Heresies, Quartets, Fortes, and not new La Scalas for a reason. Lou

+1 300 CDs x 700MB (max) per CD = 210,000 MB or 210 GB. Easy to get a 1 TB drive for under $100 these days, so store them as uncompressed files. You can always down-convert them to MP3s for your iPod if you decide you want to in the future. Lou

RF-63s paired with Denon AVR-3312CI. Unhappy with the results
LHF63 replied to dreadedphoto's topic in Technical/Restorations
My first guess (which is worth exactly what you paid for it []) is that something went wrong with the Audyssey setup. When I ran through the Audyssey setup with my Denon 1911 it dropped the levels a bit, definitely not a lot. The fact that you report the bass as being HORRIBLE makes me think the same thing. Both those receivers have ample power for your speakers, so I really doubt that's the problem. What you could try: (1) Turn Audyssey off. It should still sound pretty good overall. If not, I would suspect a defective 3312. (2) Look at the Audyssey settings. Something crazy (wild deviations in the boost/cut at adjacent frequencies, all bass cut alot, and the like) could be an indication that something went wrong during setup. (3) Depending on the results of (1), re-run the Audyssey setup. I'm sure you already know, but it really does need to be very quiet when you do this. Turn off the A/C or heat, pool pump, dishwasher, etc. If the dog barks in the middle of setup, start over. Yada yada. Good luck, Lou -
Will look for your PM. Thanks. Lou

CES Introductions - The Klipsch Console - Fini's Gonna Love This
LHF63 replied to BLSamuel's topic in Klipsch News
Like the wood grain just fine, but yeah, might want to get some wooden legs on it. Different topic, but I recall somewhere a mention of more reference line products getting moved back to the U.S for manufacturing. Anyone got more details on that? Amy? New moderator guy? Lou -
There are services that will do this fairly inexpensively, under $10 per tape converted. I believe many Walgreens will also do it. Recommend looking into a service rather than buying a machine. I've looked at them a few times over the years and never saw one I would want to own at any price. Lou

Very sad to hear of JoePa's passing. Quite possibly the last man of real integrity in D1-A college football. But I think you mean Miami, not Florida. Penn State is 0-3 against UF. Lou
