  1. Rusty, I run a 18" sealed Dayton DIY sub (4 cubic feet) powered by a EP4000 with my LS. I'm not sure if you are into DIY or not. I've found that my sub plays nicely with the LS for movies and music. However, my listening area is not that big, so a single 18 does the job for me. Horn loaded subs are definitely something I'm considering for my next DIY because their distortion is low and power requirements are low. Yet, they put out a tremendous amount of bass. Just my personal experience. Good luck!
  2. Here's a pair in Tennessee...still a drive from FL though. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/ele/3980194701.html
  3. The 5X200 and the 7X350 are all gone. I wonder how the 7X150 compares to the Outlaw 7X125. They look similar on paper, but it sure is tempting to grab the Sherbourn 7X150 and the Outlaw 975 Preamp and my venture into separates would start for about $1200, give or take.
  4. I saw in a Regal RPX with Klipsch Pro Cinema speakers. It was downright impressive. I plan on getting it when it comes to Blu-Ray.

    FORE!!!!

    Fantastic! A good laugh indeed.
  6. Do you know which drivers he was using?
  7. I have that Dayton 18 in a sealed setup with an EP 4000 going at it. Works great for me. The driver costs $250 (when PE can keep it in stock) and building a MDF sealed 4.0 box isn't hard or expensive. To go wild, you could get 6 Dayton 18s (yeah, definitely over the 2 you want and definitely taking up some room), throw some amps at them, build the boxes, and still come in less than 3 large. I'm a huge fan of DIY for subs, if the situation allows it. Especially at your price point, you could build something that would be ridiculous. http://www.data-bass.com/data?page=system&id=45 - You could build two of these, if space allows, for about $2800 and blow away any competition.

  9. Tron has some great LFE and is just great! I enjoy Armageddon and The Avengers as well. Black Hawk Down is a great bass test, especially during the "Irene" scene.
  10. Just gonna throw this out there...I too was in the hunt for 83s. I'm a Home Theater enthusiast and so 83s were what I was after. Then, I ended up getting some La Scalas, from the Heritage Series. So far, I haven't been disappointed at all. I love those bad boys! Now, I don't have WAF (Wife Approval Factor) to consider at all. Not sure if you have the option of the Heritage series, but if you do, definitely give them a listen.
  11. This quote is absolutely fantastic. My room is 12 X 30 and I have the LS on the 12 side. My couch "divides" the room at 7.5 from each LS (Doorways and other pillars force me to keep the couch where it's at in the basement). I am running La Scalas for Left and Right in my setup and I sit about 7.5 feet (Okay, so I just measured with a tape measure) from each speaker and there is about 7 feet between them (measuring from the closest point in each LS). Didn't know this, but glad to know I am close to the equilateral triangle. Thanks!
  12. Not sure if anyone has any experience with the Outlaw 975 (I don't, but saw it in a Home Theater magazine), but at $550, it seemingly does help the Pre part at a budget value. http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/975.html
  13. Stihl MS 261 with 18" bar. Picked it up yesterday afternoon and cut 3 trees down today. That sucker revs high and cuts like a hot knife through butter. Well worth the price.
  14. It sounds fantastic. The Avengers sounds so much more full and powerful than I thought it could. The explosions and lows are deep and punchy. It sounds solid with music, but since my focus is HT, I feel like it really does well in HT. I had a misconception that a "tighter" sounding sub had to be 15" or less. I was wrong and this Dayton 18 dispelled any myths in my mind. Yes, I am coming from a Klipsch RPW-10, so a 10" to 18" is definitely an upgrade. I think one of the best reasons I like this is because I could add another and power it off the same amp (provided Parts Express gets the RSS-460 back in stock). I don't have any EQ other than what my Yammy provides...a mini DSP might be in my future so I can get some more concrete measurements and really get the most out of this sub. The EP4000 is great. I have the gain turned all the way up and it provides plenty of power. At first, I thought the fan was loud. At moderate listening levels, it is loud. Where I like to watch movies...I don't even notice it. That could change though as my 25 year old ears figure out what I really like. I feel like I got more for my money by building than buying...but that's just me.
  15. So, it turns out a little cheater plug solved all of my issues. Thanks to CECCA850 for the tip in a different thread!
  16. Thank you for the tip! It completely eliminated the hum from my EP4000/sub setup and I finally get to enjoy a little more oomph in the low end. Brilliant!
  17. Hey everyone, I grabbed one of the Dayton RSS460HO-4 18" drivers and built an approximately 4 cubic foot sealed enclosure out of 3/4 MDF. Had a blast and learned so much. Made some mistakes, but ultimately got the box built. This definitely won't be my last sub build. Here's my question: I am getting no sound from the sub when plugged into the sub out from my receiver. I know my EP4000 and sub work - I can take my cell phone and plug the headphone jack into the TRS input using a 3.5mm->TRS converter. I throw some bass tests from Youtube and it sounds fantastic and so much more than what I expected - solid and powerful. (I am coming from a Klipsch RPW 10 to this, so when I first heard this 18" light up, I was all smiles). I am using a Yamaha RX-V465 receiver. For the RPW-10 I was have, I had a RCA and plugged it into the LFE RCA jack on the back of that sub. For the EP4000, I have a RCA to XLR cable I bought from monoprice. I have no bass coming from the Dayton, but plug in the RCA cable to the RPW10 and immediately get bass. Could I have a bad cable? I read some around the AVS Forum and it seems like bad RCA to XLR cables are quite common. Also, I read about possibly my receiver not sending enough volts to the EP4000. I have a digital multimeter but haven't used it a lot. Any input or suggestions would be great. Thanks.
  18. Yes, that's the driver I am using. 3/4 MDF I copied a build that's quite popular over on AVS forum right now...a 4 cubic foot sealed box. I wanted to start simple in the sub building realm and I enjoyed building this one so much. Learned a lot...both from things done right and mistakes. I'll see how this one does for a while. Eventually, I'd like to build either a ported or tapped horn.
  19. I am running a single RPW-10 right now. Paid $170 for it. Yeah, it kinda helps the low end but it has left me wanting more...much more. I considered upgrading to the RW-12D from Newegg. I went the build route instead. For basically the price of two of those 12Ds, I am in the process of building a 4 ft sealed 18" Dayton Audio sub powered by an EP4000. If I need more power, I'll build another sealed 18" and have the other channel on the EP4000 run that.
  20. I agree. They aren't advertised. My local Regal RPX is powered by Klipsch Cinema speakers...but the only way you'd know is by the Klipsch badge on the speaker grills themselves. There aren't any badges outside the RPX, nor are there any accolades given during the intro...unlike Sony touting it's 4K digital projection in the same theater.
  21. He's in Leesville, SC...or about 20-30 minutes west of Columbia.
  22. Much more different than I thought it would be.
  23. +1...it was kinda the same way when I read reviews while building a custom gaming computer. It's nice to see what others have in their system and how it all fits together. The signatures don't bother me at all and I enjoy them.
  24. I'll be rooting for the niners, but I hear Kate Upton will be in a commercial...that's a win no matter the outcome of the game.
