  1. Almost sorry to hear that. Makes me want a pair even more. Though to achieve domestic tranquility they will also need to be Walnut with a flawless exterior. Que "The (nearly) impossible dream", and point me to a windmill.
  2. Guess I'd have to go with Jerry Jeff Walker's Mr. Bojangles, written in or soon after meeting Mr. Bojangles in the "First Precinct Jail". Many others have covered it, but I like Jerry Jeff's version best.
  3. I saw Ginger Baker taken off the stage in San Antonio after one of the few concerts performed by Blind Faith, he was still drumming and sweating gallons. -I don't think his "vitamins" had quit coursing through his veins at that point. Still, one amazing concert. Micky Hart though is in a whole different league, maybe another planet. But on yet another level, when the Dead played with Olatunji (African Drummers) live at Telluride, that is another experience that I will never forget-don't ever want to forget, you felt it in every part of your body and mind at the same time (and I wasn't partaking of any mood or mind altering supplements).
  4. The pair (77 Cornwalls) I recently purchased came with paperwork that indicates Klipsch supplied the owner with an upgrade kit (to "B-2" from "B") and printed instructions for the upgrade. The number 2 was scratched into the space after the "B" on the metal label which looks odd. Never-the-less, I ordered new Crites crossovers which I still need to install, and am anxious to. Have to wait till I get back to Arizona in a couple of months though. I'm looking forward to an even better listening experience which part of me finds hard to imagine, but will anxiously await. I kind of like it that Klipsch at least used to (don't have current experience) work with customers so well. I remember in the 80's, needing a new woofer for my Heresy's after a dog, or kid got to it. They just sent me one, no muss, no fuss.
  5. I notice that I am often most disturbed by what one person says to another, rather than to me. It generally just comes off to me as bullying for which I have low tolerance.
  6. The NYT is chiming in on the subject today as well. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/24/sunday-review/dealing-with-digital-cruelty.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0
  7. "but if you can't be with the Klipsch you want, love the Klipsch you're with"...seems like I heard that somewhere, or something close.
  8. I've had Sony ES for years in one form or another. With my original Klipsch THX (from the 90's), they have always sounded great. Do other combinations sound better, sure but Sony ES has always done well for me. Now powering various large speakers in my office that I find cheaply, refoam and listen to for awhile before moving them on. I'm currently driving the THX system as a 2.1 channel with a little Yamaha Class A integrated amp and the same Klipsch speakers sound even better. Still never had any complaints all these years with the other set-up. Some days I like hot sauce on my eggs, other days I don't, they are great either way. Same with the speakers and various amps, receivers, etc.
  9. Blame it on Vietnam. I'm a lyrics guy, but if the sound isn't there, I'm not either.
  10. Interesting and timely topic for me. Until my recent rediscovery of all things vintage audio, I have been using the old KT THX three speaker set-up in my living room. Also a big Klipsch SW. Have the side speakers that fire both directions but no good way to mount them in this house. All in all I have just taken this set-up for granted as its been great. Since then I have taken up refoaming various speakers that I have found for next to nothing because of the foam issue and redoing them. In the process of testing various speakers and acquiring some vintage equipment I relocated the KT's to another room as a 2.1 set-up for music. They are great until I can find some walnut Chorus II's since I have developed an interest in them. I ended up having a small three speaker set-up and a two speaker set up (for music) in the living room of various repaired speakers (semi-tolerant spouse so far). About that time I read an article on a photography blog by a guy who is also an audiophile, but who isn't big on TV. He was saying that two channel is how he likes to listen to TV. So about that time I tried two speakers with the TV and I would have sworn that three speakers were in use. I then began testing this on friends and family members. Everyone was fooled by the phantom sound, and would have to walk up to the unused center speaker to prove to themselves it wasn't being used. Further experimentation is giving me the impression that it depends on what you are watching/listening to. Movies are generally better with the 3 speaker set-up, regular mindless TV is often better with just two. I'm sure this is old hat to many, but has been very interesting to me-and a lot of fun with the friends and family who have been the guinea pigs in the experiments.
  11. I am the CEO of a medium sized nonprofit that has a nationally accredited Substance Abuse Treatment Residential Program, a separate homeless shelter. Currently building a low-income supportive housing complex for those getting back on their feet. 449 days until at least semi-retirement in Arizona.
  12. I kind of like this idea and I think the size is about right. Don't know if it would be feasible, but it would be great to have an image of whichever particular Heritage speaker might be a favorite rather than just limit it to one.
  13. I saw a good demo of this also. However I had already purchased some Watco Rejuvenating Oil which I applied to a set of Advents as an experiment just this morning. So far it looks like an amazing transformation. I used steel wool to apply. After 72 hours I'm considering adding Watco Satin Wax or the Howards wax which has carnuba wax and orange oil. Along with a refoam this will make a nice set of vintage speakers for someone. Like I stated earlier though, the transformation is amazing, but I wanted to try it on something less important to me before I tackle my Cornwalls.
  14. I'll be anxious to see the movie. Looks like a wonderful idea. Like a lot of things, why didn't someone think of this sooner?
  15. Well, wouldn't you know it. I was in the vintage stereo shop to fix up my Yamaha CA-800 (which really is amazing when set to Class A) when I had a chance to listen to a customer's freshly refurbished, Pioneer SX-1250. I was blown away, I thought to myself-this is what I remember. Go home last night, look on Craigslist and this morning am the proud second owner of a pristine version of same, complete with owners manual and schematics. Of course this means I'm in the market for yet another set of Klipsch to hook them to. It never ends-but that's a good thing, at least in my mind. And of course there is getting in line for another five or six months to get the Pioneer recapped, etc.
  16. HWY 61 is a little lonelier today. I'll miss him. He was an original.

  18. Good thread timing. I just home from seeing willie and Alison Krauss in concert this evening. He is sounding his age a little and kind of recited rather than sang some of the songs. Still he is Willie Nelson, an American original. The answer to your question might be found in the lyrics to his new song "roll me up and smoke me when I die. " It was a good night and he can still play a guitar.
  19. Just for some perspective relative to your location. I bought a pair of 77 Cornwalls in Tucson in March that are physically perfect regarding the cabinets and sound great. I paid $800.00. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  20. Just saw this, posted yesterday. http://desmoines.craigslist.org/ele/4475291894.html
  21. Or you can get anything you want....excepting Alice, at Alice's Restaurant.
  22. After 34 years of marriage, my wife who also never cared or really listened to music has done a turn-about since we started listening to vinyl in the last few weeks. I bought her a couple of LP's for Mother's Day, that were of bands, neither I nor Neil Young cared for, as well as that band that just knows the one song about the "Free Bird" . Actually I've mellowed on the subject since the early 70's. She just called me at work a few minutes ago to ask how to turn that stereo equipment on so that she could listen. Progress...better late than never!
  23. Thanks to all. Lot's to think about and experiment with. I'm looking forward to it.
  24. The home we purchased to retire in is located in Arizona. All of the living (non-bedroom) areas are tiled with ceramic tile. In the office/den where I have placed my recently acquired Cornwalls, there is one large area rug located in the middle which takes up most of the floor space directly in front of the speakers. My question is this. Should I place the speakers on some type of rug or other material rather than have them sit directly on the tile floor. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter. They sound great as is, but I just got to wondering.
  25. Actually in Bellevue, near HWY 370 and 36th Street. Looks like you are local as well. -Del
