  1. I have two WD 4TB external hard drives with my music collection (>4000 CDs), both of which I purchased when they were on sale for ~$120. I can't believe how cheap large storage devices have become....and now 6TB drives are emerging. I keep one in my main music listening room and the other hooked up in my family room. I also have my downloaded HD files backed up on a smaller hard drive. I figure they can't all go bad at the same time
  2. So, I might of missed it, but what is the rough wattage output per channel on this amp.
  3. Wow, I've never experienced this. I have a small laptop with an external 4GB hard drive with all of my FLAC files (some ripped CDs, others HD downloads) running via an HDMI cable to my OPPO BD103. It then goes via direct analog output to my McIntosh MX119 preamp and then to my poweramps. The only issues I've ever experienced is a slight delay in the start of a song on the 24/192 HD files at times. Sound quality is great. I use Foobar 2000 as my FLAC player. Is JRiver somehow processing the files when it uploads them?
  4. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon SACD is a must. Allman Brothers - Eat A Peach SACD
  5. Bob Crites told me the ones I had were made in China. Really doesn't much matter whether it was China or Mexico. The fact is that they were poorly/cheaply designed and made (an obvious cost-cutting measure) compared to the C1 crossovers. The new ones I bought from Bob and installed are much better made,
  6. I have a pair of C2s from 1986. They sounded really good when I got them (and I listen to rock, jazz, classical, etc.), but even better when I got rid of the original crossovers and installed Crites rebuilt crossovers, and installed titanium diaphragms in the tweeters. The original crossovers in the C2s (Chinese made) left a lot to be desired in terms of build quality. Klipsch really cut corners on them.
  7. Tell him to look at the Outlaw Audio 975. Less than $600 new. A great deal.
  8. Just got done installing new Crites crossovers and titanium tweeter diaphragms in my CIIs tonight. Wow, what a difference! Stunning. What a difference in crossover quality of build too! Bob and his son do great work.
  9. I am considering one. But I'm wondering if I can output the stereo signal to 4 speakers. Right now I use a digital preamp and enhanced stereo mode to do that. Anyone with an all analog preamp know? Thanks.
  10. Yes, I have all original 1986 CIIs and the woofer is a K34E.
  11. Must have been an early file version. I used to use MP3 files and remember when 128 was the standard and then later on you were able to do the current MP3 standard of 320. I agree with you regarding HD Tracks. What I like is that they supposedly go back to the master tapes (analog) source of the old recordings to create the HD version. Just like what Neil Young is doing with the Pono music. However, if the original recordings sucked, don't expect any improvement in HD.
  12. I assume its due to limitations of some DACs. Many cannot process any higher than 24-96 from computer, so not worth paying extra for 24-192 files. Unless you plan to upgrade the DAC at some point or load the music onto a portable player like Pono, etc.
  13. AIFF, WAV, FLAC and ALAC are all lossless formats. AIFF and WAV files are both non-compressed, so file sizes will be much larger. FLAC and ALAC are similar compressed formats, so they take up less file space. The compression is reversible (i.e., you can convert FLAC back to WAV, etc.). Any of the formats can handle up to the 24-192 HD on HD Tracks (and other HD sources). I have a lot of 24-192 FLAC files.
  14. It depends. There are often different options of HD resolution for a given Album (24-88, 24-96, 24-192) at different price levels, then there are often different versions of the album (i.e., regular album with original set of tracks, or deluxe edition with bonus tracks). I always download in FLAC, just because that is the standard format I use on my computer for downloads and uploaded CDs, etc. I choose that over WAV to save file space as FLAC is compressed/lossless. ALAC is the Apple version of compressed lossless. I have no experience with AIFF.
  15. OP. Curious. Did you ever select an amp? If so, how's it working out?
  16. I power my CIIs with a PrimaLuna Prologue 5 now. 35watts. Really like it. KT88 goodness.
  17. Oppo BD103. Best balance of performance and price. Costs twice as much for 105 with limited incremental improvements.
  18. I set Heresys as large, and use 60 crossover with same sub. Sounds great to me.
  19. To the OP, I've been running my CIIs with a PrimaLuna Prologue 5 for a few weeks. Took about a week with the new set of tubes to break in and really come to life, but really loving it now. Way more than enough power and plenty of headspace. Been rotating my listening from classic rock to jazz to classical. All sound great to me in my room.
  20. RIP Joe. Proud owner of Grado headphones. A work of art!
  21. I love my 2105. Sounds beautiful driving either my Cornwall or Heresy speakers. A great match with Klipsch Heritage.
  22. Actually, I had quite the opposite experience with Ebay as a buyer last year. I bought a vintage Fender Champ amp in "mint" condition and "functioning perfect". When it arrived at my house, it was in great condition, but as soon as I plugged in the first time it barely functioned. Crackled terribly, obviously had bad caps. I told the buyer and he basically told me to go pound sand (I was just looking for him to cover some costs for a cap job to fix it). So, I opened up a claim with Ebay. They ruled against me. I could not believe it. This guy had advertised a perfectly working amp and it definitely was not working.
  23. Selling my Jolida FX10. Love this little amp and it's so cool looking, but it just does not get any use since I have only one system set up with a separate pre- and power-amp. Comes in original box with all paperwork and remote that was never used. As new. Less than 2 hours on the tubes (that's how little I've used it). Photos at: http://s279.photobucket.com/user/tjiann/library/Jolida%20FX10?sort=3&page=1 $429 shipped to lower 48 states only (firm on price, they are $650 new). Plus 3% to cover fees if you use regular Paypal.
