  1. Tried to come up with Texarkana songs (without google). Thought it would be fun. After about a half hour, my brain started to hurt and I had come up with one by Marshall Tucker and that was it. You beat me by 95! I cant tell you how cool this whole project sounds to me. I have about 8 more years before retirement and hope I have something to sink my soul into like you have. Mike
  2. Dave, it is good to hear your brainchild is still on track (pun intended)! Sounds like a great retirement plan. The only advice I would give you is something most if not all of us learned in high school - history = boring & music = fun. If you mix in enough music, you can make history entertaining as well. About a month ago, I was visiting my daughter in Seattle and we made a quick trip to the EMP, a museum dedicated to pop culture, because I wanted to see the Jimi Hendrix exhibit. The exhibit was concentrated mostly on his touring and had plenty of interesting tales to tell, and items to display (guitars, clothing, carry on bag....) It was all great but the music was missing. Background stuff and some head phones with misc. sound bites. Good but not great. There was also a Nirvana display that was a better presentation but still mostly putting on head phones for music bites. Then there was the JBL room (can I say that here?) it was a huge (100 ft?) video screen with a superb sound system. They were playing locally recorded studio sessions and it was wonderful. I could only imagine how much better my Jimi "experience" would have been if they put his exhibit in that room and played more of his signature style. Who knows, I might have found the history lesson entertaining. Also with music, I would go back many times to enjoy. The history, once was enough. Best of luck with this project. Mike
  3. Great Dave, I will call tomorrow and get this woofer to you! I have too many in my bone yard already and I hoped someone would give this one a try.
  4. I have a K33E that I pulled from a La Scala. No sound at all. Visually, it appears fine, cone and surround are in good condition. No sign (or sound) of vc rubbing. Just no sound. Free for local pick up in St. Louis. Shipping only (UPS) for anyone else interested. Sorry for poor pictures, iphone is about shot!
  5. Yeah, not sure if his approach does him more harm than good or not. Don't let an asking price get in your way when looking for heritage speakers. Make an offer that works for YOU and move on. At least with this seller, you get to sit in his living room and listen to the speakers on quality gear (usually McIntosh).
  6. For what it's worth, the LS II's that Phil has were previously owned by member "rockhound"! They were prototypes from the factory and very cool ones at that. I heard they were excellent speakers. Not sure about Phil's price but I would not shy away due to "not factory". Good luck with your search.
  7. You buy things faster than I can type, so I couldn't. Plus I told you not to sell your La Scalas about 4 speaker moves ago and you didn't listen!
  8. Last chance for a free (plus shipping) E33! No sound, but cone, surround etc are in great shape.! I don't hear any vc rubbing either. If you are looking for a project, let me know. I have moved on to a project that has been sitting for months. It got sidelined when Matt was looking for Chorus help and then the LS rescue. Back on track today!
  9. I paid just over $2000 for mine and they were just a couple planter rings away from flawless. One thing to consider is the crossover. Chances are you will have to update eventually. If they are AB (like mine were) you will need to replace. That can cost several hundred depending on the direction you go. (Please don't start a thread on crossover options). I always tell anyone interested in Belles not to haggle over the ultimate best price, get them reasonable and buy. You wont regret buying, you will regret not buying! If you are thinking $2500, they should be flawless cabinets and drivers with a decent crossover. (I would start lower though) IMHO
  10. Huge success! We had a short listening session on Friday night. Then weather did not cooperate for most of the day Saturday with cold, rain and even a little snow! Good thing I made the covers for them! By Saturday evening, the rain was gone, the covers came off, the bonfire was lit and we had a blast. None of the guys had even heard of Klipsch much less the La Scalas (we lead sheltered lives). They could be heard for miles. I was very impressed with these old speakers and how they performed.
  11. Great story, hope the ending is as good! I am glad you took the path you did with this young man. Hopefully it had an impact on him and he will take your advice. I would have been fine with you kicking his a$$ also, but your way was (probably)better.
  12. I am off to prove your theory on La Scalas and the great outdoors! Got old pallets to start the bonfire and my new salvaged LS's loaded up and ready to go to the country! Going to be a little colder than planned but we probably wont notice.
  13. if the current woofers are working properly, the switch to the Delta's would be only a slight improvement. Not a great bang for the buck IMO but an improvement none the less. With all of your experience with subwoofers, I would experiment with changing the crossover point a little first. I never found my Hersey's lacking in that arena, adding a sub always filled any voids I felt there were. Turning the K55 down a bit may a better answer. Either way, I am sure you'll have fun with it.
  14. Finished the covers. I wont have to worry about bringing them inside if we get some spot showers this weekend. plus they can ride in the back of a pickup without dodging rain drops! Music and bonfire this weekend!!
  15. Unless those Belle's are well traveled, those aren't the ones this guy is selling. those were Phil's (pcapps) in Little Rock and he sold them to wipster who had them shipped to Seattle about 6 months ago.
  16. next thing to do is make covers for these. Plan to use outside this weekend , and there is a chance for rain (maybe even snow). Set up a cut file and ready to roll. Yes, I cut fabric on a cnc machine too. Anyone interested in a E33 woofer? Runs very quiet! Actually no sound at all. Looks in good shape, cone and surround all intact . This was a replacement somewhere along the line. It does not have as tall of a gasket as the others which may have been it's demise if it was slapping against the motorboard. The x-overs found a good home, this woofer needs one too.
  17. You been stalking me on the Carver site......lol lol MKP :-) Never been on the Carver site. You gave up that info somewhere along the line on one of your posts! No stalking.
  18. We do a lot of fabricating with aluminum in our shop and stock many tubes, angles etc. I just chose this 3/4" angle because I had enough on the shelf. (cant use anything larger as some areas are only covering the 3/4 plywood). I have seen other trims but just stuck with what was on hand and was cheap. Wish I had a better answer than "because it was there"!
  19. You will be thrilled with you tube amp! Sit back and enjoy it, don't ask for any opinions. I am staying away from them as I am perfectly content with mid-fi! Chasing hi-fi gets expensive, exhausting and I am pretty sure you never get there.
  20. YOU are who I had to rescue these speakers from! Plus, you are moving on to the dark side - tubes! From what I have read, they are mean over there.
  21. The Carver I was using was the TFM-15 CB. Not as much power as your M4.0t, but was more than enough to drive the scalas. If the meters are any where near accurate, I was only pushing between 10 and 25 watts peak. The shop is pretty big (50,000 square feet) but it filled it with plenty of spl's. I have only cranked it a few times and waited til later in the day so as to not disrupt the ones trying to do actual work, so there wasn't much additional background noise to over come. Still not sure what I will do with these, but it sure has been fun "rescuing" them. They will be fun to have around.
  22. Checked on the ambient temp, and the instructions state that you should keep the temperature at or above 65. I don't see the video on parts express anymore but there are several pdf's that list info and finishing tips. They also have the handle for the 4" rollers now. I recommend using their rollers. I have tried to pick up similar ones but theirs work better. IMO Give it a shot. Easy to use.
  23. Did you make the switch? How would you rate the upgrade? Plus which Seleniums were you replacing? I have used the D250 and liked it but main factor in the purchase was the price ($37 each). Never did an A/B test vs the K-55M's though.
  24. I got the duratex from Parts Express. Most kits come with a 3" textured roller with a handle which works fine for smaller projects. They also have some 4" rollers you can purchase. These will require you to pick up a small handle for it but Lowes, Home Depot etc. have them. Very easy to apply. I usually thin the paint with water. You get a different texture depending on how thick you leave the Duratex. There are good instructions and it is not complicated. PE used to have a video which is helpful if you have not used it before. The interior of the La Scala's folded horn is a little tricky. I chose to spray that part with conventional paint (added a little texture). Others who have posted here used the small 3" roller and said they had good results in that small area. I have also been told there is sprayable Duratex. It dries fairly quick so second coat can go on in about an hour. Not sure about the temperature requirements. I will have to check. Other forum members have had much more experience than I have. Hopefully they will chime in too.
  25. crap, forgot the klipsch badges. going to go out and add those now! Then Done!
