  1. You can’t go wrong with a Marantz. You can quite often find factory refurbs very reasonably priced (how I bought mine). If things are sounding good with other inputs it could be the actual CD player. Fortunately they are not crazy expensive and as an option many BR players do CDs very well.
  2. There is a young guy up here who has two of them he uses for acoustic sets he does at a couple of the pubs, they actually do sound very good. I was amazed, it doesn’t look like they should be able to put out as much sound as they do. He told me pretty much what you said, easy for him to handle by himself and they fit in the back of his Jeep no problem.
  3. The power may be issue if you were using hungrier speakers and wanting to go insanely loud. The ones you are considering don’t take a lot of juice to get going. My Marantz has no issue driving my Ohms which are not as efficient (87 vs 95 for the 61s). I added a pair on Marantz mono blocks but tell you the truth I didn’t really need them.
  4. A regular eq can be good, I just recal having one of these that were made for the model specifically. There was a different one for the Interface As as well as the Ds. When you occasionally run into the old Interface on the used market (fairly rare), the production is trying to find one of these units if not included. They are hard to find and the speakers didn’t sound right without them. My memory got jogged when someone had made mention of installing an L Pad into the Forte to tame the tweeter. It seemed a logical idea to me as I have read about folks stuffing their tweeter horn with various substances to take the edge off. When I was using the RB61 IIs as my front mains I would just adjust the tone controls to get it sounding right for my room. For some reason a lot of guys don’t want to adjust tone controls; I have no idea why not.
  5. Was reading another thread re perceived brightness with the new Forte III. Years ago (early 80s), I had a pair of EVs from the Interface series. They were my first good pair of speakers. They came with a very small outboard unit you had to use that adjusted the sound for your room. Memory a bit fuzzy on this. Has anyone ever built something along this line for specific Klipsch speakers as an alternative to crossover rebuilds and such? Would it even work? Aside from the units that were part of the EV speakers in those day I have not seen any other speaker manufacturer offering anything like this.
  6. What a set up! Would love to get my hands on Belles at some point. You sir, have an embarrassment of riches!
  7. The Black Friday phenomenon has spread north of your border and is now entrenched in Canada. I would say it started in a big way about 6 years ago or so. Prior to that the traditional big savings day was always Boxing Day - although the day after the calendar Boxing Day as it was observed as a holiday until about 15 years ago. As I live in Yellowknife, retail is limited. So for the first time I participated albeit online. My wife is a Roots fanatic and had her eyes on some new boots next trip down south to Edmonton. 40% off online on Friday! She has no idea but she is going to be getting new Hanukkah boots this year.
  8. I have been using the 5008 for several years in 5.1, more than enough power.
  9. Very interesting thread, and the first time I’ve heard of L Pads. A spark went off in my ever aging brain and I remembered the Outboard eq that came with a pair of EV Interface series speakers I had back in the early 80s. I assume that was what this was? Is it possible to fabricate something along these lines for Klipsch speakers? I’m not a techie by any stretch, just curious. https://goo.gl/images/H1UqoN
  10. I bought one last year. My original went missing during the move. Found it NIB on EBay. Just took a quick peek and saw one on Amazon for 24.99 US. I’d paste the link but my IPad doesn’t want to let me. It is listed as a Marantz Audessey Calibration Mic.
  11. If you prefer your cherry wood darker, exposure to direct sunlight will darken them. One of the types of wood that ages very nicely.
  12. Lovely room, they look right in place with the wood and leather.
  13. The rear radiator will need a relationship with a wall for sure.
  14. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends, all the best from Canada.
  15. Very impressive looking (as is your theatre room). Great shots, I think you may have missed your calling in marketing.
  16. You are onto something, I have also noticed modern radio receivers are not as sensitive as they used to be. As much as it was originally ballyhooed I think the electronic PLL tuning is the issue. The older units that I have owned with an analogue dial have always performed better. Same thing with a few shortwave radios I have owned over the years.
  17. Not exactly the same but sort of parallel...bring out our few items about one week out, including an old crystal menorah we have had for years, get it nice and shined up and remove any left over wax.We hang a few things and start the season by playing our favourite Hanukkah CDs and sipping wine or a little scotch.
  18. Always preferred front ported As well as down ported.
  19. Didn’t say I wanted a pair would just like to hear them. Aside from the little cube systems and small wall mounted model you see in pubs I have never even seen a Bose speaker.
  20. Always wanted to hear a pair for myself out of curiosity. They are an iconic historical speaker.
  21. Many are unaware the the the brothers Young were Scottish immigrants to Australia , albeit very young when thier parents came over. Back then moving about the Commonwealth was relatively easy to do. My family followed the offered course available in those days. My parents came over to Canada from the UK in the late 50s and an uncle and wing of the family went to Australia. Though we are Jews, the culture of UK permeates our bones to this day. My mother was from Aberdeen (father from Manchester), and whenever I hear the pipes the hair on my arms stand at attention and I get a lump in the throat. Long way to the the top and it’s video always seemed to touch me and bridged the great spans of our family between the UK, Canada and Australia. A great band who touched many and highlighted the commonalities we share. Malcolm Young, May his name be for a blessing.
  22. Another addition to a growing list we lost in 2017. Too young to die of complications from dementia.
  23. They also do well in commercial venue placement. In the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton Alberta it seems to be about 60/40 JBL to Klipsch in the stores, restaurant and pubs.several of the large women’s stores use the large white wall mount Klipsch.
  24. I agree. I've been to more than a few homes and have yet see/hear a centre as good as my RC 62. Haven't heard one of the 64s but they look magnificent. Mind you I don't play movies or television at what people refer to as reference levels - to damn loud for me and the neighbors. I really thought I would hear a big noticeable difference when I swapped out the RB61 IIs for the Ohms, but no mismatch to my ears. My wife likes it and one of my audio buddies was surprised as well.
