  1. That's usually code for "oh, I am getting 5000 calls on these in an hour, I should raise the $$$. Someone did that to a set of B&W 805's in Atlanta. @ 8-900 they were a steal. Now they're $1500 and sitting for a month. Cool. Srinath.

Recone ???? not my method, in fact I cant recone nothing. Re-foam - yes. BTW I believe that the parts express woofer is the rat shack woofer. They look identical don't they. I'd almost say $10 and throw it in and walk away. In fact I'd be happy to buy your old woofers off you, cos I have a whole slew of the surrounds lying about in my old house with nary a 5.25 left without foam. And I have a 5.25 with wicket VC rub. Thanks. Srinath.

Rubber surround and rubber cement and you can try it a few times easily before it gets too hard to clean. I have a few that I boogered up. Slso I found the yfit nicer with the surround under the cone but experiment away. I have a set of infinitys where the woofer I did under and the mid I did over cos that's the way they fit right. Sure looks funny. Just don't do left one way and the right speaker the other way. LOL. Thanks. Srinath.

I love these little buggers. Metal cabinet and very high end sound. BTW there is an ebay seller that sells rubber surrounds that rea perfect fit for these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-piece-5-5-inch-Repair-woofer-Bass-Speaker-Rubber-Surrounds-120B-/280914687138?hash=item4167d1f4a2:g:mT0AAMXQBg5RtfCx They're called 120B and others also sell those, but the rubber is a wee bit thicker. I glue them and put em in the plastic baffle just snug enough and use a washer on the screwd between the speaker and the baffle to not pinch down too hard on the rubber. Though that probably will not hurt. Rubber surround makes the woofer get lower and make a bit more spl, so it catches up to the tweeter a bit. All around good mod/repair. Thanks. Srinath.
  5. Wowee, do the wood horns sound good ? I have these in the EV version - but its mid is a metal horn and the woofer of course in my version is down firing. Mine is centurion. They also had em front firing. EV Georgians. Thanks. Srinath.
  6. And likely make a lot more power when things let out the magic smoke ... unless of course the amp is capable of taking it. In any case, a graphic eq or a parametric eq that's in some of these amps can also do that same thing with less likelihood of smoking some thing. Cool. Srinath.
  7. Boutique makes tend to drop out of favor fast in people's minds. Take a pioneer sx1250 for example. I know of atleast 30-40 amps that will produce better quality and quantity sound on any speaker you want to try. That's just the ones I know. And I have not heard an outlaw. I would still take a 1250 (and I also am a huge Marantz fan so I'll take one of those as well - bigger the better please) Cool. Srinath.
  8. I dunno I got a kick out of this. Pearl Wilson, Technician's Assistant Welcome! How can I help with your electronics question? You Naaa I actually have the answer for the question the bose 601 guy asked 6 yrs ago and you suggested a parts express woofer. Sorry that was the wrong answer. Cheaper 4 ohm woofer with 7 and 3/4" Bolt circle is available @ mat electronics. Pearl Wilson, Technician's Assistant What's the make/model of your device? How old is it? You 1991 Ford McIntosh MC 275 Truck and tube amp which also makes espresso. Pearl Wilson, Technician's Assistant How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried? You I have tried putting Espresso in the Tubes of the MC275 and then pouring gasoline on them and lighting it up, but the sound has a crackle before the good bass hits. Maybe I can attach a turbo charger in the espresso and get more power you think ? Pearl Wilson, Technician's Assistant Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you? 10. I also sold a nighthawk 650 that I managed to buy in 1995 for 3-400 with 1200 miles. Beautiful blue bike in mint condition. I was riding it down 237 in Santa Clara CA when a side cover flew away. Then a week later while riding it, I spotted that side cover - stopped on the left shoulder, walked back 1000 ft and picked it up - nearly intact with just a teeny bit of rash. Sold it to a close friend, had 6-7k on it and he parked it for years - moved it to NJ from CA and back to CA. And sold it hardly ever riding it. I also sold a GS500 I had owned for 10 yrs and 40K miles and with 48k miles I sold it in a moment of "brokenness". Had lindemann FE that I didn't even get to open and "discover" their secrets. But that FE handled like no other GS I have ridden (till I slapped a katana FE on them a couple yrs later). I have also handed a lot of remorse to people I bought/traded stuff with, usually in the general arena of "I'll fix your busted amp if you'd pay me with that other busted amp" and I have fixed both ... or in some cases fixed theirs and parted mine out for more $$$. To me $$$ regrets are minor. I don't consider selling something for $5 when it was worth $10 something to crow about. It has to be worth 10X atleast. Cool. Srinath.
  11. Yea cool. I actually am probably going to put it on here or ebay in about a month when I can deliver with a bit more freedom too. Cool. Srinath.
  12. I am in SC and I have a pair in birch with a few blemishes. But I'll happily sell it for 2g. 4 consecutive serial numbers - Some scratches, a little wear on 2 corners a missing badge etc. I'll try to get pics if you are able to make the hop to SC. I actually don't mind a bit of a drive, but timing and $$$ etc etc have to be worked out. I don't want to deliver it without a full on commitment. Its like 2-3 days and a lot of pain and gas $$$ Cool. Srinath.

    Belle clones?

Doesn't look like its been cut, but who knows with such a poor picture. Cool. Srinath.
  14. Srinath

    Belle clones?

Wouldn't that prevent a lot of the tweeters output from getting to the listener and get reflected and phase muddled ... AKA -6db attenuator along with random phase corrector ??? Right, that's a cool feature then. Cool. Srinath.
  15. I have quite a few, though I have got a few back and said ... meeeehhh I was naïve to think these were great. But these 2-3 still hurt (maybe getting them back would help me realize that meeehhhhh feeling). 1. Harman kardon HK930 with broken knob shaft that I got for $5 - traded away that same day for a set of RTR series 3 model 4 which I sold a few days later for $100, the day I got a 3 pack of ESS heil's with 1 working woofer between them but all 3 amt's nice and intact for $20. However I never even listened to that HK930. I want that 930 back. 2. A Phillips speaker pair, no idea what model but these had 2 8" and a 2" soft dome mid and 1" soft dome tweeter. Man did it sound like heaven. 3. Yamaha NS25 and NS 344 sets. Didn't even get much $$$ for em. 4. Gave up a Realistic 2080 and got a RE - 2 electrostat's needing foam on the woofers. Yea I got killed on that one. Cool. Srinath.
  16. An audiophile is someone who hears a girl singing in the bathroom and instead of putting his eyes to the keyhole, complains about the acoustics and soundstage of the bathroom. LOL. Cool. Srinath.
  17. Looks awesome and good in a little back pack sized package, but hovering on water is basically 100 yr old technology. Cool. Srinath.
  18. IMHO - Forte 2's are bass heavy and they sound a bit boomy. Choruses would be almost the perfect speaker for tubes, or heck anything really, the most even keel speaker made by klipsch. Price vs value etc etc you have to decide that. After getting the forte's you'd likely be looking for choruses. Cool. Srinath.
  19. Would a JBL2360A horn work in place of a 402 ? Besides mine have Eminence kappa 15's - so I need to pick it up from ~350hz or so. I think I have to go 3 way no way a 2 way would do. Cool. Srinath.
  20. My Z9 also says that. It could be that one of the drivers is reversed because that's how your crossover needs it or a cap in the xo is reversed due to some design reason. Cool. Srinath.
  21. Home made EV, and I don't hink there is any other kind older than the last 20 yrs. I'll bet one of the 2 on the bottom is a coaxial with center mounted horn. Cool. Srinath.
  22. I walked out of a well advertised estate sale with a $10 SX-1250, a $10 set of realistic mach 2's and a $10 thorens td 154 (I think) and to think I left a Akai Reel to reel there cos I didn't know what it was. These same geniuses wanted absolutely 200 for the washer and 150 for the dryer. Firm. I waffled and said I'll come by after thinking about it and seeing if I can get a bigger car or a truck. You'd be surprised. Cool. Srinath.
  23. They didn't take it ? Is that some type of scam then ? Tell them you'd pay pal them only and they have to ship it to you. Cool. Srinath.

    Vintage KHorn kit?

I see what you're saying twisted - but well, I am slow to understand, and well, the original doesn't look any better really as published by EV. Here is an old Audiokarma thread about it - http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/electrovoice-corner-spkrs.466672/ Linking to this Chinese page - http://blog.naver.com/PostView.nhn?blogId=biosoft&logNo=40108819175&viewDate=&currentPage=1&listtype=0 And the t35 and M828 with 823 (I think) mid driver both with metal horns and big heavy compression driver encased in a fiberglass loud speaker style mid cabinet is pretty much what they had. Mine is missing that fiberglass part - and never had it. It was made to sit inside that top section straight up on the wood, and didn't have the rear port/phase tube for the mid horn. IMHO, a lot cleaner to look at, though sound ???? who knows. And in the 50's they could care less about looks especially inside such a beauty of a cabinet, it had to sound great and do so with 2 watts of SE tube power. Which I am willing to bet, these did. I am looking for a set of x8+x36's and a set of attenuators for a decent $$. But as all projects, its buried deep in my collection and deep in my set of priorities. Cool. Srinath.

    Vintage KHorn kit?

Centurions are the simpler and better Georgians, and mine have rear woofer access with down firing 15". Very very good speakers IMHO. Also EV's in a lot of cases were "kits". Like mine for example, it had a pair of x8 and x36's. The correct XO per spec from EV was a single x336 - aka - Khorn copy courtesy EV. Its one of those run what you brung situations with EV's. Cool. Srinath.
