  1. You know, it occurs to me that used Heritage (or even the RF-7 series) speakers do not really hold their value. Why is that? Why is the pair of La Scalas I have that cost $6,000 new now only "worth" $1000 or less? It is not like they do not still sound like new, or are "out of style" (well, OK, the IIs are beautiful). This seems to hold for most premium items - cars, boats, high end audio, etc. The knee-jerk reaction is that they are not really worth the original price and used prices reflect the "real value". Not sure it is that simple. Thoughts?
  2. You know, I see a lot of Bose bashing on varied forums, but what about Sonos? They are good for what they are, but do you see them as a real competitor? Not me, and I sell quite a bit of Sonos products.
  3. I have had (and still do actually have) some Bose stuff. Let's ignore the 901's for now. Their stuff is good for what it is. That means, IMHO, that they do not compete with Klipsch. Totally different worlds. Is a Ferrari as good on gas as a Prius? Do people lust over a Prius? Both "do the same thing", just in their own way. Make sense?
  4. They are done! Just finished the new '55 diaphragms. Wow, even at insanely low volume, they sound great. Glad I replaced both, now the tone matches side to side. Need to get some power into them and really give them a workout. I may have to bring my Haffler HF-220 home so I can test the living room, my listening room is a touch too small for these. YAY!
  5. Holy moly, now *that* is a home theater! Your setup is better than most commercial theaters around here.
  6. That I'd be interested hearing.
  7. Oh YAY! Someone else from New Hampsha. :-)
  8. Ah, Coytee and the 510... :-) I was in the same boat, but simply could not afford that route. I ended up with: Crites ST125 Tweeters Crites Diaphragm kit for K-55s New K-33 Woofers Crites rebuild kit for X-overs I'll end up with about $670 invested in total (La Scala's were free, see my thread on that). Now, that being said, if you can find the 510s and swing the cost of the drivers, that would be something to hear.
  9. Why does Made In USA have to be thought of as so much more expensive? Shiit is getting away with. Granted, their products are less labor intensive than a speaker cabinet. I wonder if it is simply not wanting to give up on profit margin, which (and I am assuming here) is very good on high end speakers. Give a couple % to make them in Hope. Yes, yes, I know it is not that easy, but could it be? Just random thoughts.
  10. Oh, I assumed they were. Kinda disappointed if they are not.
  11. There is another thread that continues the investigation into the Khorn in the original article:
  12. Nice, an even better plan. I'll have to look up Hahnfield. Edit: Saw more picts of your place - very nice!
  13. My turn: 1) Thom Rotella's bass solo from the song "Friends". Tells you how well the woofer and mirage crossover is. 2) Yoko Kanno's Green Bird, again very challenging song for speakers, and one that all mine except for my Magnepans have failed at (La Scalas are not ready for a real test yet). 3) Bela Fleck Cosmic Hippo. This is a test of bass output too, and how well the bass and banjo interact.
  14. So pretty.... Belles are such a timeless design. GLWS.
  15. I saw your original post on AK. How about some coaxials? PS: cool house! Who was the designer?
  16. Perhaps the best way to ruin a design/product.
  17. OOOOO! I love the looks of the Amp.
  18. PM sent to Jordan. I'll take you up on your offer. With the limited run and scarcity of the "laser" badges, it does not look like I'll be finding a mate soon. Thanks!
  19. Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but did he use an Altec horn or a Klipsch horn? Looks very Altec to me, but my audio history is not very good.
  20. Not to resurrect a zombie thread, but thanks for posting this. I am a fan of architecture, but had not seen this article before. An amazing design. Too bad it was butchered in subsequent years. It is just ugly and wrong now.
  21. I love this thread - so much passion and knowledge. Hopefully more will be revealed.
