At the $800+ mark you are heading into the forte I/II pricing. What area are you in? If you are willing to be patient enough you can find forte I or IIs well below $800

You may have to look at the xover for cap values as I don't recall seeing a schematic here on the board for the t500s. Maybe another member here just might and could post it up for us, or if you were to order Crites Ti tweeter diaphragms they could give it to you.

Here is the t5000 schematic I received from Crites and it did match what was in my pair of speakers. I point this out only because there is(was?) another listed at one time that was incorrect. You will find that the price of Klipsch speakers can vary quite a bit in different parts of the country - condition naturally has a large impact on value too. Of the speakers you have mention IMO The Quartets will be the closest thing to your forte's though a bit more flayed back– they were of the same era and family of Quartets, forte & Chorus. The Heresy Is are not setup for dual binding posts. As for the grills – it is very unlikely Klipsch will have replacements, but they should be fairly easy to get. The Heresy IIs are nice but consecutive serial numbers in itself would not be a deal breaker. . As for prices The Quartets are in the ballpark. The Heresy IIs are too high ~$500-600 is more like it The Heresy Is at $700 is a bit much, you will find better examples for ~$500 with just a bit of patience.

This has been posted many times before but we will say it again – you will want to remove all drivers and re-seal all the seams inside the cabs. I used the original Gorilla glue on these t5000s - this can make a night and day difference to the sound. I have also used construction adhesive on many other cabs too. Also for the most part the difference between the the t4000 & t5000 is the former has the k76 tweeter and the t5000 has the bit better k75 tweeter. So for re-capping xo's - you can used either Dayton or Solen caps. But by no means are they the best but still a big step up from the stock caps just the same. I used Solen's in my set of t5000s and they really woke them up. BTW, the Crites xo's are just a remake of the OEM schematic and not some special design. But if you have the $$ and not the skill set to DIY than there is nothing wrong going that route. .

That's right, the t4000 has forward facing ports and not a passive like the t5000s, haven't thought of that in a while. The t5000 in a somewhat crowded 12x13ft bedroom is rather bass heavy at elevated volumes. But they work great for low volume levels for going to sleep at night listening to things like Stephen Peppos, Scott August or even Adam Hurst. I should add that I am not a large bass fan when listening to music. If it is in the recording great but I do not want to exaggerate it in any way.

Something you are going to find is most of the time an avr will not perform as well as a dedicated 2 channel system when in 2 channel mode. But of course as the $$$ go up this can get much better. In my case I use an avr-x3200w for HT and maybe 15% of the time in 2 channel for casual background music. The rest of the time I use either my Denon (old stuff) or Emotiva separates for serious tunes. If you are just starting out in this take your time, save some money and get an older used avr. A great example would be to look for a Denon avr-991 – this was one of the higher end models Denon offered and they can be had for ~$250. I am sure fellow members here can list many other models/brands that would give you similar value. Once you have a bit of time under your belt you may find out more of what you want/don;t want in your system. But once again, your music taste has a lot to to with what you will want to use. If you listen to say rap then a system setup for jazz will probably sound very underwhelming to you.

Can't speak for the Onkyo (though they all do this now-a-days) but the Denon is playing with marketing numbers at 130wpc. Use the 8 ohm as a reference and even 70wpc is still a bit generous of a value at that if you are driving more than two speakers. Again, this is common practice with ALL of the manufactures (and vendors) these days. And as the price goes up....yep you guested it the more likely the numbers are real. As far as quality goes – this is very suggestive. Your preference in music can have a lot to do the choice of gear, even the format you use (play) such as lossy mp3 vs lossless aac has impact. But back to your point, for the most part, yes price is usually in line with quality. But each of us have different tastes/likes & dislikes. If at all possible always try to listen before you buy using music material you are familiar with.

Good point, yea the t400]4000s just lack the passives of the t500/5000s and are basically a Heresy with out the price tag.

The “8 ohms” is not meant as a DC resistance (via an ohm meter) but rather an AC impedance. If you look at your OEM klf-30 crossover you will find that the two woofers are wired in parallel netting ~4 ohms impedance that the crossover will “see”.

As far as bracing goes, I would mimic the way it is done in the klf-30. Two “crosses” placed between the bottom of the woofer & passive and top of the woofer & mid range cut outs on the motor board.

The t500's are a great value as you have commented already since they share the same drivers to more expensive models. . You will most likely need to do a complete re-seal of the cabs & re cap the xovers as I did on my t5000's (only difference is the t500 has k76 and the k5000 have k75 tweets). I personally prefer the T500/5000's over the forte I having the forward mounted passive & larger cabinet size/volume. The larger size can be a turn off for some people though.

Be careful with adding weight to passives, tried that trick on a pair of forte IIs against the advice of @BEC a few years back. I ended up having to re-cone them after they were so badly torn up. I believe it was ~ 2-2.5oz added IIRC.

If a little is good more rarely is better. Be careful with this bracing stuff – it can get out of hand real fast doing more harm than good. Smaller well placed braces can help a lot more than a bunch of randomly placed pieces of wood inside the cabs.

A fellow member suggested rope caulk and it works quit well I think. It does not harden so it is fairly easy to remove at time of clean up either during install or down the road. It is cheap and easy to come by at Lowes, Home Depot and even Amazon. I used two “strings or beads” pulled off the roll together and lay it down to either the driver or cabinet side, what ever side you prefer.

Well it is lucky for me that his wife is the way she is that is for sure. (big grin) The NC house could never have the floor space for LS1s hince the klf-30s, but thankfully the one down south does. Plans are to use the Emotiva gear for these - or maybe drag out the old Denon dap-2500 & four poa-4400s to bi-amp. Time will tell.

SOLD! Friend of mine bought/picked these up earlier today and now reside in my Fla home garage. BTW - The RC-7 center is still available as far I know.
