I 100% agree with you and I am certainly not being argumentative. I am not an expert or fanatic on these things or pretty much anything for that matter. Some people want the good-alls in and some want them out - I would say if they are replaced, just keep them. If for some insane reason you decide to sell the amp, some of the people/collectors that value the original stuff would want them and may pay more for having them. Heck if you are going to replace them just use these, the "super" capacitors that some of the Japanese restorers swear by. https://www.partsconnexion.com/arizona-film-capacitors.html Again I do not have an opinion on them and I do not condone, endorse, or swear by them. I have read some info and read about others that have used them and their enjoyment of them, but I have not heard any amps with them. And probably with my hearing loss, I doubt I could tell a difference if there is in fact a difference. Fortunately I do not have golden ears because it would mean this hobby could possibly become even more expensive.

I have an 8 (not the b) that I run with Cornwalls. It is a fantastic sounding amplifier to my ears. After having it a while I put in quad of Mullard El34s and the sound improved over the tubes that came with it. I got a ton of information about the marantz 8 at AK. He had some recs about what to replace, what to leave, etc; I guess in an effort to not change the overall sound. Not that his suggestions were the only ones I read about or were recommended but he did a restoration of a marantz 7 tube pre-amp that was really well thought out and planned, so I felt comfortable with his recs. He is a big fan of leaving the Good-All caps in place as well. He also recommended using EF90 tubes as a replacement for the 6BH6, they have the mesh plate and are made in Holland. Every picture I see of the back of the R-115sw shows two line ins - one for left and one for right; I couldn't open the listing for your item, so I couldn't check it. But it seems you should just be able to do the y connector at the C2 - and then follow the diagram below, replacing the sunfire sub for yours. I have done this before and it seems to work. I have been looking for a while now at outdoor projectors but have zero experience with them. Which one did you choose over this?

I have a 4th and a 6th grader right now - the homework load is hit or miss. Some weeks there is a lot other times there isn't. But that does seem about right for being gone a couple of weeks. It is interesting - some of the elementary schools in our same system have a "no homework policy" but others don't. Though the no homework kids I hear get a bit of a jolt when they get to the upper schools. I'm more impressed your fifth grader went to Barcelona for a tryout of sorts. Congrats - he must be quite the player. My boys play soccer but we are not in any danger of traveling over state lines much less out of the country for tournaments/tryouts, etc. What position does he play? Sorry for the questions but that is just really interesting to me.

And from all the good things I read about these type bass bins with the big 402 horn, it might be the final step. Lynnville is only 150 miles from me. Once these are finished I wonder if I will be able to hear them from my basement in Birmingham. I hope so.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. A quick question from a noob (who has never heard any variant of these type of bass horns) - How far away do you want to sit from these? Meaning how big of a room does someone need for super MWMs, regular MWMs, your quarter pies, etc?

I'm from Alabama - I talked to you a while back on AK about 402s. That search led me to 510s and I haven't seen them for sale either. Just curious about it and where to get them. Anyway the search continues... 1066 for me is the Battle of Hastings. It was my first password for an old ATM card when I was a teenager.

Sorry, I meant 800 Hz. Thanks for the correction. Are people using tubes or SS to power these things? I think today I am going to switch to SS and see how they do. Just curious about other peoples experiences. Tom

Been reading with interest and took the plunge. UPS lost them for five days, but finally got them hooked up. And first listen has been encouraging. Couple of questions if you don't mind. Then what are placement suggestions. I saw turning the cab upside down but was just wondering. And then I'm using an ashly analog crossover at 500. I think I read thats the right setting. I do have to say it's impressive so far.

The questions regarding how to biamp, etc led me here and led me to getting a Protea (from the Garage here). I'm in Birmingham and have discussed w/ member coytee his 402s, etc over on AK after seeing all the glowing reviews here since he lives in Tenn. Right now though my weekend days and weekday nights are full of soccer, gymnastics, swimming and any other activity my four kids have going. But I know what this Dad wants for Christmas this year - its just a matter of convincing the "santa" aka my wife. Thanks again.

Long-time lurker but first time poster. Picked up a pair of unmodified Cornwall I's a few years back and got hooked on the Klipsch sound. Been enjoying this community's knowledge and expertise - problem is now I want just want to move up into the La Scala, Belle, Khorn realm. And man the 402 horns look amazing - would love to give them a listen but I know how that goes - the pining and yearning, then the searching, the looking for a "deal", realizing their too good and very few let the good ones go and then finally forking out the cash for them. Same road I went down with my marantz tube gear but I have thoroughly enjoyed my Cornwalls with them so I know the search is usually worth it. Thanks again and look forward to learning more. Tom
