  1. That is just so wrong. They should be apprehended and lashed in the public square. This is my first Mac piece.
  2. Yes sir, gold plated spade terminals. Broke out some spades instead of bananas I ordered a spade to female banana plug adapter from amazon to make it quick and easy to disconnect my existing speaker wires but its gold plated spade is way too large (.520" width) for the Mac terminal. In retrospect I'm thinking it was made for speakers with no banana plug receptacles from the factory.
  3. Perhaps those are the "autotransformers" Mac refers to? I'm still learning about this amplifier, and its technologies. Below is an excerpt from its owner's manual: "The use of 6 complimentary connected output transistors per channel, allows not only full power output into normal loads, but extra high current output to drive uneven speaker loads. Some speaker designs have impedance characteristics that may dip to as low as 1 or 2 ohms at certain frequencies. It is possible for the MC150 to deliver as much as 50 amperes peak current into these lower impedance loads. The MC150 provides this extra current output with complete reliability due to the use of Mclntosh Sentry Monitor protection circuits. Some power amplifier manufacturers have claimed that their products do not use protection circuits since they compromise performance. The real genius of Mclntosh engineering design has recognized these potential problems and completely eliminated them. Properly designed protection circuits assure you an amplifier that will operate under all types of user conditions with maximum reliability and freedom from possible speaker or amplifier damage. The benefits of these designs mean you own an amplifier that will continue to operate safely for many years. The MC150 output is so distortion free, it is difficult to measure with conventional instruments. The performance limit is 0.005% maximum distortion, yet it is typical for an amplifier to measure less than 0.002% at mid frequencies." 50 amperes of peak current....I'm guessing very briefly, but that is a massive release of stored energy. And its performance data does not change be it a 2, 4, or 8 ohm speaker.
  4. Even if there is zero hiss at low volume, some low cost amps emit (audible noise level) @ higher gain levels. I had a Crown xls 1002, ran it bridged 4 ohm for a sub, claimed 1100 watts bridged @ 4 ohm load. But if you pause the input and crank up the amp gain, you could hear the hiss, from about 70-80 gain to max. But it worked well for the sub and just bear in mind to keep the gain < 80%. For the price of admission, it is good. This Mac, pause the input crank up the volume and nothing. Its rated @ .005% @ its rated output, not 10 watts or 50. There is a reason why an amp rated @ 150 wpc 2 channel weighs 60 lbs. Well designed/executed class AB amp. I was also thinking about a Peachtree Amp500. 500 wpc @ 1% thd right from their specs. Sure if you operate it < 200 wpc it should be very clean. Most of the Crown xls series are rated @ .5% thd @ rated max output. Some amplifier manufacturers play games with their published output/distortion data. I've seen some publish their noise #s at maybe 10 watts output. Read super low#s, but not @ rated output. Might fool a few. Bottom line is your ears at the end of the day. I remember reading info and reviews about First Watt amps. Excerpt from their web page “The first watt is the most important watt.” There is a lot to be said for 5 or 10 very clean watt output, especially with very efficient speakers.
  5. Also many good buys off ebay. Cds and blue rays from resellers like goodwill stores from all around the US, and de-clutter stores. I routinely purchase cds for < $5, blurays for < $7 delivered to my door. My last cd, St Germain Tourist cost me $3.76 delivered. Like new cond.
  6. Great idea, should be a pinned thread. Twisted Klipsch Heritage speaker mutations.
  7. So I recently purchased a used McIntosh MC-150 amp and my initial plan when I purchased it was to run it off my Yamaha avr pre outs. But my thoughts are changing. This Mac is so clean, so full bodied, so effortless. Absolutely NO noise feeding it straight from my DAP. And the Mac has yet to work hard, I can't seem to get it to heat up feeling overhead. 15 watt peaks is loud! So I'm thinking a 2 amp/one pair of speakers switcher. AVR for movies and multi channel, Mac for straight 2 channel. The Mac with a really good recording like Diana Krall Love Scenes.....you close your eyes and it sounds like the instruments and Diana are in the room performing for you. It's magical.
  8. Nice deal. Why would somebody put that ugly molding on the front? Maybe for wife approval? Makes me want to puke.
  9. A couple of network reporters have been suspended because they reported that all of KB's children were on the helo and had died. They ran with info which had not been verified. Read the article on yahoo earlier today. https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2020/01/30/matt-gutman-suspended-abc-news-kobe-bryant-helicopter-crash
  10. I had to laugh and shake my head. About 5-10 years ago, solar panel installation was the rage in southern Louisiana, both substantial fed and state tax benefits. Quite a few in my former neighborhood had them installed. But were upset when they didn't have power when the Entergy grid failed at night. Most of them had no concept of the need for a major battery reserve (as in multiple batteries) to store power for such an issue. Or perhaps the solar sales folks didn't mention that aspect to them.
  11. @dirtmudd ↑ you got it goin on, brother!
  12. I have owned 4 black cars and one truck over 45 years. They look spectacular when prepped well but upkeep can be demanding, if you are picky. Just the simple act of a woman resting her butt against the paint can produce scratches or swirl marks. No more black for me, silver or white for now.
  13. Never owned or driven one yet.......but it doesn't sound very appetizing to me. I once sprung for a replacement/rebuilt auto tranny for my GF's (at the time) Chrysler car. This was 1997 and it was like $1650 installed, a bargain by today's standards. That was my annual bonus...PIFF...gone. She didn't have the money and we were 200 miles from home on our way to Witchita Falls TX.
  14. That is some really good advice above. Especially the last sentence.
  15. Let me tell ya, its beautiful here this morning. 49F and we finally have some sunshine after rain and cloudy skies last couple days. I went for a drive already and stopped @ the local reac park and shot the basketball for a while. But more rain coming tomorrow need to dry out here, yard waterlogged.
  16. Just think how good that first sip will taste. Savor it. I believe I shall join you on the 1st. I have a little JD sitting in a bottle in my pantry which hasn't been cracked in oh.......3 or 4 years at least.
  17. Two days to go, then its on!
  18. Good morning to you Mine doesn't even have a dipstick. Chevy got away from it completely. There is a fill plug only, and a procedure to top off to correct level @ a prescribed fluid temp.
  19. Yes, depends who you ask but I realize 1/3 to 1/2 will remain in the converter. But even replacing half and the filter is cool with me. The dealer recommended a flush only and they don't replace the filter. Even my owners manual/Chevy say to replace fluid and filter @ 97k miles. I was not satisfied with the answers and estimate from the Chevy dealer where I origin purchased my car. Flush and leave the dirty filter in there? It is synthetic fluid, most owners just drive it and skip tranny maintenance altogether. Not me. I replaced the rear diff fluid about a year ago to. If I can perform the task, I do it. I did the engine coolant flush and replacement too. I have limited trust in any car dealership/service really. Toyota dealer service seemed really good when I owned a Toy Camry. I've done 2 previous auto tranny services in my 40 years servicing my vehicles. Executing on your back with ramps and jack stands is a dirty challenging job versus with a lift and standing up. But I can get it done. Tranny repairs when they quit or have serious issues @ 150k miles or more (neglected) are really expensive, and you are @ their mercy then. YMMV
  20. That's cool but I don't want to trouble them to do so. I take what they offer @ two locations. Books yes, I request but not movies. Between Redbox, my personal collection, cable HBO & Showtime, and the library I spend too much time on my azz viewing as it is.
  21. And I thought I was bad @ 770 miles a month average. You're @ 300 or < a month. Must be your sunny day only touring car. My Camaro is my only vehicle, I hand wash it, and wax it annually. It doesn't have a single door dent on it. I don't mind walking and if I cannot park away from others, I don't attend/park. Kills me how people drive around looking for the closest parking spot to the door, then go to a gym to work out or walk/jog for exercise. People and their peculiar behaviors.

    What I Got Today!

Ordered the glass face from McIntosh Labs this morning, they had it in stock, for a 24 yo unit. Got to love that Seller is covering repair cost, sent me the payment. I now know why owners and reviewers rave over Mac equipment. Superb amplifier, effortless, plenty of reserves.
  23. Our local library has a collection, mostly dvds, but they do get new movies, documentaries, and some blue rays too. I hit em every now and then. Price is awesome (zero) and its a 7 day borrow period.
  24. So what is a "bubble"? 6 cyl no doubt. Was that a hand wash in the cold? $215 is mostly prob 65% labor. My 2012 camaro plugs are good for 96k miles, still in there - platinum tips, like $7 each @ amazon. I'll be replacing em myself when its time (very easy to access, hemi head, dohc). Fixing to do the auto tranny fluid and filter in a couple weeks myself. 67k mileage.
  25. @K5SS After giving it more thought overnight, I agree with you. Only two people know for sure, that is a fact. And thinking about motives, could be a 19 yo young woman working as a hotel receptionist might have seen an opportunity to capitalize on KB's popularity and success, and manipulate the events that unfolded. The past doesn't matter now, and anything more is simply conjecture.
