Teenagers that aren't into cool "vintage" audio??? Are you sure these aren't ready to live a second life shaking apart a dorm room in the next few years? My little one in only 3 years old so I really don't know what teenagers are into these days. GLWS!

For those in the know - for a long narrow space such as this is it better to place speakers along the long wall or short? I guess its just as easy to try both and see what sounds better. Is there any reason you can't keep this setup in the family? Have you listened to it at all? This is a awesome collection!

It just sediment at the bottom of the tank, not a surprise if its a 20 year old unit. Once the new one is installed its a good practice to drain and flush it out one a year to keep the sediment from accumulating. This will also prolong the life of the tank.

Gas water heaters have a limited lifespan irregardless of brand or warranty. I'd plan for replacement every 10-15 years and if you get a few more years out of them then its a win. I'd skip any wifi monitoring, etc.... there's no need for it and it only adds unnecessary complexity and expense.

FYI if you go through a plumber you'll need to get a permit, inspection and possibly increase the scope to address other items (such as adding straps in case of earthquake, adding an external drain, flexible connections, replace leaky valves), etc... Not necessarily a bad thing but it can quickly increase the cost beyond what you initially expected. This recently happened to my mother in law when she was selling her house in WA. A $500 gas hot water heater ended up being closer to $1,800 when it was all said and done.

Wow quite the thread! I randomly came across this as I'm in "research mode" for my first set of large speakers and have narrowed my focus down to building some Cornscala's. For the price/performance ratio assuming you are comfortable with DIY it seems like this would be hard to beat. As much as I'd like to throw down for the Cornwall 4's i'm not there just yet. I've seen reasonable deals on Cornwall II's (around $1k) but they are all in the midwest or east coast, here in Oregon folks want $2k for the same thing and they almost never come up for sale. In any case my plan is to use plywood to build the Cornscala's, most likely I'll order the kit from Crites that includes the motorboard, crossover and speakers.

My weekend/fun car has a manual transmission. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I always use "look what I saved" when it comes to the garage. How do you think I can justify owning an old landcruiser and some older BMW's.... When I rebuilt the steering knuckles on the landcruiser I mentioned that I saved $2k since I didn't have to hire it out. The same logic can be applied to audio equipment, its all about setting expectations high and coming in below budget. When your significant other thinks you will be spending $500 on something all of the sudden $100 seems like a bargain!

I'm new to this forum but the pricing seems way too high. I've been scanning the market for a nice set of Forte I, Forte II, Chorus I, Chorus II or Cornwall's for a while and its interesting to see what comes up. I've also never listened to any of these so if someone is in Central Oregon and has a setup they want to demo I'm all ears.

Google Pixel 2 has worked well for me.

I highly recommend Bayer Tempo 1% dust for wasps. You can get it on Amazon, along with a duster for less than $40. Last summer I had a wasp nest under my siding under the eaves of the roof, dusted it with tempo and they were gone (including the queen) within a day. This spring at my new place I used it to knock out multiple ant nests around the perimeter of the deck. One bottle will last years. From my understanding this is what the pros use, its pretty impressive. Good luck!
