  1. I sent him a message, the preamp is sold.
  2. Shaking my head here, you made tradeoffs that you like better and others are wrong? Many get all of it without compromise, like what you like, but don't look down your nose at others because they want more and are not willing to settle for less. I know Klipsch owners that have their speakers away from walls and the system is stunningly good.
  3. Maybe yours were made to be ported and aperiodic, if so, sealing the back panel will ruin the design and the speakers won't sound as intended.
  4. X is 1982, so at least I have the right forum name. 😉 I just went by these: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/84194-klipsch-date-codes/ https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/klipsch-heritage-s-n-dates-code-decoder.147797/
  5. Gotta love cherry picked posts. Sorry I must be on the wrong forum, I'll get my coat.
  6. This tells me one thing.
  7. I just played some bass heavy music and placed my hand on the back panel, I could barely feel it vibrating in the middle and on the edges by the screws there was absolutely nothing at all. I'm not running a dance club, so I won't worry about sealing the back panel and just use the 12 screws supplied by Klipsch. FWIW, YMMV, etc.
  8. Maybe the spl one listens at makes a difference???
  9. Only you. Of course the converse is also true, if you don't like the difference, that would make tube amps worse*. 🙂 *I assumed that would be understood without me typing it (it is hard to put "tube amp" and "worse" in one sentence).
  10. I know you already have a temporary solution with the amp swap, but (pause) if you like the different, wouldn't that make them better. 😉
  11. Agree 12 screws and they have big holes in front.
  12. I bought grommets for my KT88 diy build, but didn't end up using them. The PT wouldn't sit flush with them in place and I didn't want to use spacers to raise the PT (ugly IMO), so I just opened the holes up with a step bit and put heat shrink tubing around the leads. The amp is just sitting on a shelf and I don't think the wires are going to move around. YMMV, JMO, don't try this at home, etc.
  13. None, the amp you have now is just as good, probably better. FWIW the Jolida you are/were looking at is the Chinese company and not the US based company (now Black Ice) that most in the US are familiar with. Damping factor is overrated by many (look at the math). I have a solid state amp with a very high damping factor and a single ended tube amp with a very low damping factor, the bass is a little different, but I can't say one is better than the other.
  14. I just do a search and use tube equivalent.
  15. 7 watts? Kegger/Blue Glow/Frankenstein KT88 SET built in an old McAlister Audio SE32 PSE chassis using the OPTs. The sweep tube amp had 11 tubes, so I left 6 fake tubes in their sockets.
  16. Do you know if the Velodyne is going into protection because of being over driven or due to age and perhaps a failing amplifier (what I assumed)?
  17. For music 2 smaller subwoofers work well and IMO/E better than a single sub (large or small).
  18. The reference (that I don't use) is from the standpoint of the performers on a stage, the wall behind them. As others have posted, the wall in front of the listener(s) and behind the speakers = front wall is less confusing.
  19. I try to use the appropriate tool for the job and advise others to do the same. The OP can continue to use a subwoofer (and maybe add another) with her Sprout (no tone controls) and you can use the bass control if you so desire.
  20. I prefer to say 9 watts so I can keep it in single digits. lol
  21. You are describing what is supposed to happen with a subwoofer (or two 😉) and speakers that can use the help. The only way you could have a chance to like the Heresy IVs without a subwoofer, is to get rid of the subwoofer and give it time to get used to the sound without. Under powered? Are you running a night club? Agree with Khornukopia above (typing as he was posting).
  22. Mr. Had does this with his single ended Inspire amplifiers (or at least he used to).
