  1. The floor of a house isn't at ground potential.
  2. I've been watching Techmoan for a long time on YT. He's interesting and has a lot of fun finding unusual audio stuff.
  3. The most obvious next question would be: How high should I lift them? Ceiling height? Higher? Followed by: How high should my amp be lifted away from ground? OTOH, it is absolutely factual that the placebo effect is real. Ergo, if raising your wires, and maybe running them through a refrigerated bath, makes your stereo sound better, then it DOES sound better, and you are wise to follow your personal perceptions. Following the perceptions of others brings no joy of any kind.
  4. @Crankysoldermeister Nice looking work, Cranky! IMO, bonding two leads mechanically and then with solder is as reliable as using a solder lug on a terminal strip. Terminal strips may add convenience for production lines, but I don't think they improve integrity. Those network boards look better than any I have ever seen in any speaker since I started in 1968 fooling with speakers.
  5. What an inheritance! It's seems a little odd that the preamp is the "T"ransistor version of the 7, and not the tubed version. Of course, who would quibble when it is inherited? A great design with that very cool balanced phase inverter. It's worth whatever it takes to get them in primo working condition. Please post more when you get them back! ^5
  6. I was at a trade show in SF and stuck in a large hotel with an extravagent koi pond. I had a small pocket camera I carried when any big camera would be a nuisance. In the evening, under the lobby lights, I snapped a few dozen shots into the pond and I was really taken by the weird artistic captures that were happening due to the overheard lights and angle and reflections. It may look heavily Photoshopped, but it is pretty much what came out of the camera that evening.
  7. No. That's in the region of the Grand Tetons. From a vacation last year. I'm in the desert.
  8. Untrained Wordsmith Dictates "Dietary Goals For the United States." “It was Senator George McGovern’s bipartisan, nonlegislative Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs–and, to be precise, a handful of McGovern’s staff members–that almost single-handedly changed nutritional policy in this country and initiated the process of turning the dietary fat hypothesis into dogma. Then resident wordsmith Nick Mottern, a former labor reporter for The Providence Journal, was assigned the task of researching and writing the first “Dietary Goals for the United States.” Mottern, who had no scientific background and no experience writing about science, nutrition, or health, believed his Dietary Goals would launch a “revolution in diet and agriculture in this country.” He avoided the scientific and medical controversy by relying almost exclusively on Harvard School of Public Health nutritionist Mark Hegsted for input on dietary fat. Hegsted had studied fat and cholesterol metabolism in the early 1960s, and he believed unconditionally in the benefits of restricting fat intake.” - Gary Taubes, “The Soft Science of Dietary Fat.”
  9. Music and dementia, or Alzheimer's I volunteered at an Alzheimer's Day Care Center for many years. I vividly recall one of my daily charges named "Bill." He was only about 70, and had been a trumpet player in the 1940s. He was very advanced in the disease. Could not recognize his wife or kids. Once threw his wife out of the house at 2am and locked the door. Very little verbal ability. Our main role as aides was to try and keep the clients entertained, occupied, busy for the 6 hour day to give their spouses and caretakers a "break". I brought in an iPOD and headphones often to see how clients might react to music. Bill tried it once, and ripped the headphones right off when I pressed play - he was really annoyed by the sound directly in his ear. I knew he was a musician, so one day, I just hummed the opening bars of Ellington's "Take the A-Train" and his eyes lit up, and he began humming the entire song as if he was playing. He smiled. I hummed another tune from the era, and he took right off on it. He knew these songs note for note and beat for beat. He became my favorite client to entertain. It didn't change anything about his disease, but I wondered if he experienced the joy (internally) that seemed to show on his face. RIP "Bill"
  10. @Marvel Best wishes for a fast recovery. Take good car of yourself, Bruce!
  11. @Gilbert Good to see ya "Mr. Cocobolo" 😃 I'm no kind of livestock expert. I can barely keep my squirrels penned up properly. I was referring to this kind of feed program used around this area's dairy bid'ness. https://thisisdairyfarming.com/discover/dairy-farming-facts/why-are-dairy-cows-fed-soya/
  12. This is my old "art car" at the Doctor George Car show a few years back. The "Retro Metro." It was a lot of fun to build and use as my "desert buggy."
  13. Kind of ironic - - Domes of Silence in a speaker. Speaker archeology?

  15. Hi Guy - Thanks for the WB! You're definitely in the "Old Timers" category here. I joined (the first time) in Jan 2000, like you. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
  16. OIC. Wel then, maybe it will work ok. That Tercel looks so new hard to believe it has any blown parts, but we'll get it going.
  17. Do you mean Josh Nichol? Oh my, he was such a great guy. It doesn't seem like he was even my age. But, I guess "stuff happens." Very sad news. I had lots of good convos with Josh. RIP, Mark
  18. Ok, now we gots questions! What year is that photo? My guess is 1972. What song is being sung? On that my guess is a song by "Bread." @Marvel Inquiring minds want to know!
  19. @the real Duke Spinner WOWZA! Cuties. Looks like a Bichon on the top step. We have one too.
  20. Singing in the Rain - Eureka, California. He had a little battery powered amp on his back.
