  2. Probably not the answer you're looking for. When I changed amplification to my Yamaha with onboard D/A conversion my cheap Technics SL-MC7 disc changer started sounding like a way better, more expensive machine. Previously I was using analog out from the Technics, and it sounded like crap. Is digital I/O from the CD to amp an option with your setup?

I have just heard comments by Forum members about how they think the Chorus stacks up well to the Cornwall in listening tests. For myself, I love the natural, uncolored sound of my Fortes, but this is admittedly biased. ---------------- Maybe the room is a little too small for the chorus 2's to really breathe. ---------------- The ChorusII really need about a city block to breathe, ask my local Uijongbu branch of the Korean National Police!
  4. Considering what Khorns are worth, a good call.
  5. Sticker shock! It's been said that with caps you generally get what you pay for. Shelled out more than I wanted to for upgrading the caps in my ChorusII and KG4's and it was worth every penny. Anyone tried these?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4662&item=7508161147&rd=1

Have you ever seen "Full Metal Jacket"? The scene where the Viet Namese hooker shows up and they start playin "These Boots...? Pretty hot in my book. The song is cool, too. I admit though, that and "Somethin' Stupid " are about the only songs of hers I am familiar with off hand. ---------------- Yup, Nancy was in a lot of my teenage fantasies! "Boots" was definitely the right song for the first hooker scene in Full Metal Jacket (IMHO one of the greatest movies ever made). You wouldn't guess it, but every gal I've watched FMJ with recently absolutely loved it, go figure
  7. I agree. Excellent $5 flick!
  8. ---------------- On 4/16/2005 10:14:18 AM bhendrix wrote: Exactly what did you do to the 4.2's and Chorus to upgrade the x-overs? Thanks! ---------------- KG4's: Changed the tweeter caps to Dynamicaps (not cheap). Changed the woofer caps to Solens. Changed the inductors to open air (cannibilized pieces from a JBL crossover network, purchased used). All capacitance and inductance values remained the same, some voltage ratings were raised. Chorus: Replaced the 2 each (blue) 2uf caps with polypropylenes by CSC of Santa Monica, CA that I purchased off of Ebay. Think I got a good deal on these; 1% tolerance, beautiful workmanship, 2uf @400v, possibly an overrun on an aerospace or military contract. Haven't messed with the rest of the network. The two cap replacement cleaned up things significantly, though. Though the KG's and Chorus's caps didn't come from the same manufacturer, they are evidently similar enough to allow the speakers to complement each other in the system. I'd guess that staying with the same origin components throughout the system will help them work together. IMHO capacitor upgrades can almost be considered periodic maintenance on speakers, something that should be done every several years, like it or not. I'd submit that you should stay with the same brand/type cap for upgrades throughout the system. If you upgrade your Quartet tweeter cap with Auricaps, use Auricap for the squawker and the KG tweeter, too. (Consider the same for the Cornwall's, they might need new caps by now.) The woofer caps aren't as critical. There are lots of guys on the forum who know more about caps than me, (Leok, AlK, DeanG to name a few) and there are lots of threads on the subject. The Chorus and KG's are farther apart in the Klipsch lineup than the KG's and Quartet, but you wouldn't guess it in my living room.
  9. Not a real answer to your question, but my situation is similar. I am using ChorusIIs up front and KG4's in the rear of my somewhat small living room. I have regular guests and noone tells me the setup sounds anything short of great. Oddly enough, after I upgraded the crossover caps in the Chorus last weekend, the KG4's (which had already been upgraded) sounded clearer! Sort of an overall unmasking effect. I asked a friend which speakers I had fixed and she pointed to the rear KG4's. The whole setup sounds much more integrated now. This suggests that a uniform crossover cap upgrade to your system (Cornies too?) would help them get along better together.
  10. A digital amp setup deserves your audition and consideration. Lots of threads in the forum on the subject.

  12. The movie "Collateral" on DVD. CD soundtrack available (trying to download). For anyone who understands German; "Frauenluder" (means "women's carrion") by the Austrian group E.A.V. The CD went to number 1 in the German-speaking world despite being essentially banned from the airwaves for controversial, very non-PC lyrics as the title suggests! A filipina neighbor of mine begged me for a copy of their music even though she can't understand the words. She loves EAV's range, skill, melodies, etc.

Know I'll stir something up here, but I'll submit the Imperial prior to 1968 was superior to the Caddy or Lincoln in many points. If you've ever worked on an old one, their complexity and build quality is remarkable. Chrysler Corporation never seemed to be able to manage this flagship line well. They didn't consistently promote its distinctive identity and heritage. Over the years sales declined and Chrysler virtually ceded the high market to GM's Cadillac in the '80's. Where did this ambivalence towards its crown jewel get Chrysler Corporation? Evidently down the same road Klipsch appears ready to travel....

If you are unhappy with the sound then we can suggest some alternatives. mention listening preferences, budget and what you don´t like about the current setup. warm regards, tony ---------------- I'm with sunnysal, keep the Marantz! Few SS receivers of the era (HK twin power, Rotel) receive as much respect as the Marantz. I've driven my KG'4's with a Marantz 2220b and later my ChorusII's via a Marantz 2385. These are almost worst case mismatch scenarios because the KG's need higher power and the Chorus need a "sweet first watt" with their high sensitivity. Having said that, both setups sounded great and never failed to impress guest listeners! If your ears tell you it's good, believe your ears. IMHO, the 2230 is a good match for the efficient Fortes. Also bear in mind that old Marantz watts are REAL, useable watts, don't be fooled by the 30 watt rating. I would keep the Marantz until I added more Klipsch speakers perhaps for HT. When I bought my Yamaha 7.1 receiver, I brought my KG4's out of retirement as surrounds. The Yammie drives them all quite musically with floor shaking power to spare. Short version, if it sounds good to you, keep the Marantz and save your money for other stuff (more Klipsch, HT receiver). Two channel Klipsch Heritage is sweet, but Heritage HT is amazing! Don't put a lot of money into wire. There are quite a few testimonies on this forum that component upgrades to Klipsch crossovers (Forte included) offer terrific bang for the buck. Having done this to my KG4's, I agree. My ChorusII's are awaiting time for me to do the same to them. DeanG is a specialist in the Forte crossover upgrade, I get the impression that his customers think it is some of the best audio money they have ever spent.

  20. Make sure that your adjacent neighbors are young filipina ladies (I'm in S. Korea) that like your music. Let them come up to your apartment and crank your system up louder than you ever had it yourself! Later they can sit around drinking "Jack and Coke's" watching movies on your Chorus HT system. "Daddy, your hand naughty!" Let the other, less accomadating neighbors vacate.
