I can't imagine getting two Choruses in a Golf, they took up pretty much the whole back end of DrWho's Subaru Station Wagon. How in heck did you do that! btw, we're right around the corner, was it the third or the fourth house on the right! DId you get the new room set up yet? Somehow I thought you were a Cornwall man? Michael ---------------- Actually, the gf is a tall girl and she rode in the front passenger seat, the only open space left with the Chorus' in back! Luggage went on top and around the Chorus'. The VW Golf is a very space efficient machine, if you fold the rear seat cushion completely down into the floor well, then the seat back forward on top, the Chorus' fit. You're certainly not going to get anything much bigger than them in a Golf, though! Third house on the right, third floor! Beer's in the fridge, scotch on the table! Moving my HT into the living room is gonna be tricky. First of all, power isn't where I want it to be. Second, the room is oddly shaped, complicating speaker placement. After that, there is blocking off the time (and the nerve!) to complete the job in one day. Needs to be done, though, there's something just a little socially obtuse about putting your HT in the bedroom.... Never owned a set of Cornies, had Heresy's before. Probably because as enlisted military, you don't always get a lot of living real estate to play with over the course of a career. If you retire in Korea, like I did, you floor space becomes even more problematic. The ChorusII works out nicely, though.
  2. "New marketing phrase for Klipsch- "CHORUS II- WORLDS LARGEST BOOKSHELF SPEAKER" " How about "CHORUSII - THE BIGGEST SPEAKERS YOU CAN FIT IN A VOLKSWAGEN GOLF' After purchase last year, drove my pair from Seoul to Taegu. With the rear seat down still had room for the gf and not a lot else! The listening testing must have been a lot of fun! Wish I coulda been there! Any of you guys driving to Korea any time soon?
  3. Go get the Cornwalls now! IMHO keep the KG4's for future rear channel/reinforcement use. I'm using my kg's this way with my ChorusII's (Cornwall's nephew). The more efficient Chorus dominate the room (thus masking any kg shortcomings), but the kg reinforcement works well for HT. My room's a bit smaller than yours, so your results should be even better.

I wouldn't let anyone talk me out of my ChorusII's or even my KG4's. Hang out around here, pretty sure there are a few guys on the forum with Heresy HT systems.
  5. Makes me feel better about the big bucks I paid for my ChorusII's. You can't come by any Heritage cheap here in Korea!
  6. One day an Irishman, who had been stranded on a deserted island for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon. He thought to himself, "It's certainly not a ship." And, as the speck got closer and closer, he began to rule out the possibilities of a small boat and even a raft. Suddenly there emerged from the surf a wet-suited black clad figure. Putting aside the scuba gear and the top of the wet suit, there stood a drop-dead gorgeous blonde! The glamorous blonde strode up to the stunned Irishman and said to him: "Tell me, how long has it been since you've had a cigarette?" "Ten years", replied the amazed Irishman. With that, she reached over and unzipped a waterproofed pocket on the left sleeve or her wetsuit, and pulled out a fresh pack of cigarettes. He takes one, lights it, and takes a long drag. "Faith and begorrah," said the man, "that is so good I'd almost forgotten how great a smoke can be!" And how long has it been since you've had a drop of good Irish whiskey?" asked the blonde. Trembling, the castaway replied, "Ten years". Hearing that the blonde reaches over to her right sleeve, unzips a pocket, removes a flask and hands it to him. He opened the flask and took a long drink. "'Tis nectar of the Gods!" stated the Irishman. "Tis truly fantastic!!!" At this point the gorgeous blonde started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man and asked, "And how long has it been since you played around?" With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed, "Sweet Jesus! Don't tell me that you've got golf clubs in there too!!!!"

Didn't finish it because the room was rumbling and I might wake up our neighbor. Outstanding sound + enhanced widescreen (no black bars)!!! Plan to watch it earlier tonite so as not to bother anyone, can't wait. ---------------- OK I finished the movie last night. Like I said, the surround sound was great but geeezzeee, the movie story line was really crappy. Just rent it! On second thought, make a pass. ---------------- This is the sort of film I buy with viewing with certain company in mind. The documentary about the making of the film was more interesting than the film itself.

The remake was pretty good but Angela Lansbury is pure evil and won several awards for her role. Most likely Frank Sinatra's high point as an actor. This movie must've made some heads roll in 1962. ---------------- The 1962 original had a huge impact as I recall (I was 12) and was one of the most chilling movies I remember from my childhood. The MC premise is plausible but "the Blob" and "the Fly" are not! This is a rare case where both the original and the remake are excellent movies. I own both. In the remake's commentary, everyone involved had the greatest respect for the 1962 movie and were wisely careful to do nothing to diminish it. I thought Denzel's and Meryl's performances reached the bar Frank and Angela set. Incidentally, I live in Korea now and the whole population seems to be brainwashed....
  10. Thanks a lot for the interviews! At times I thought I was talking to Mr. Klipsch face to face again!
  11. You're very welcome! Should have mentioned, though, that if you do latch on the .5's on, do it the same way on both speakers because you could change the sonic signature. Smaller caps paralelled up to a larger value can be faster than a single cap of the same value. A few folks like to "cascade" crossover caps to try to eliminate artifacts.

IN my haste, I ordered the wrong mix of caps and now have too many 1.0 caps and not enough 1.5caps I'm going to go ahead and mod the one speaker that I have parts for now that I've torn it apart. Question: My '85 Fortes have no circuit board but a small connecting plate. Things are kind of tight so is it okay to snip the previous cap leads and solder the new leads to the stubs? Or do you have to desolder and remove the lead end? Would there really be any sonic difference particularly if the connection was right up against the connection? Thanks folks. ---------------- You can order some .5uf caps, connect them in parallel to 1.0uf and you have 1.5uf. It might even sound better than a single 1.5 cap. I made a similar screwup when recapping my KG4s. Bought 6uf (typo) instead of the required 8uf. Ordered 2uf, wired it parallel to the 6uf: works just fine. IMHO, try utilizing the PCBs original holes if possible.
  13. They ain't K-Horns, but my ChorusII's handle everything I throw at it pretty damn well.

Main overseas postings were Germany, France (for the Bosnia war), and Korea. These days, I'm a defense contractor in Korea working with the Army. Bought my first Klipsches in 1974 (Heresies) as an A1C in Louisiana. La Scala's from the Yokosuka Fleet Exchange! The Yokosuka NEX is the most impressive exchange store I have ever seen anywhere. Before I had the Chorus, used to power the KG-4s with a Marantz 2385. Loved it!

LOL Yeah, ok - I had a furniture/cabinet maker do these for me from my untested plans, as I (and evidently you, too) knew that I could not pull off the quality that I wanted. The total for both pair, upper and lower cabinets came to $3000. Top frame is solid cherry (except the one ply part in the top back). He said if I had more built at a time, we could do better overall. So did I get screwed? DM ---------------- Actually, IMHO at $3000 you got a bargain! The work is stunning! Thinking of selling plans?
  18. Thanks for letting us in on this! I took a look at Cambridge's site and noted the plethora of awards their equipment has received. They didn't talk much about their circuit topology. Is the 640C a digital amp?

I do listen to some morning shows, which I LOVE, but they have 5 minuites of show, 10 minuites of commericals, back for a few minuites, and maybe another 5, 10 minuites of commercials!!! Really sucks. The commercials are all the same and are REALLY annoying... ---------------- For radio that sucks, come to Korea! The koreans do nothing but talk, talk, talk!! At least I can tune in AFN 88.5 FM. The situation was much better in Germany when I was there '84-91. I still like to listen to SWF3 out of Baden-Baden on Webcast. Better than most anything available locally.
  20. Been using optical, clean signal, like it a lot.
  21. 94 BTW, very generous offer, Dean! Seasons Greetings!

It wasn't until this fall that I purchased a pair of 40 year old Khorns that my life became complete again. Don't let your wife get in the way of this mistress; she is a siren that will continue to beckon to you if you get rid of her. You have to find a place in your new home for her. Sell it to your wife this way, with a Khorn as a mistress you'll never leave the house looking for another. ---------------- LOL
  23. My KG-4's have grey cones. Thought I'd seen pictures of 4.2's with black poly cones, though, which might be right. Sure you don't have 4.2's? If so, congratulations; 4.2's have improved sensitivity via extending the horn tweeter's lower range. On the other hand, like the other guy's said, if they're paper, they're wrong. If poly or composite, question: do the speakers work? Do they sound good i.e. clear and balanced? Full mid-range response? If so, it might not be worth worrying about. Consider that the KG-4 (and nearly all Klipsch) was built by Klipsch to a price point. The alleged replacement drivers could possibly be better than the factory originals. There are a few other drivers on the market that match the KG box parameters, and frequency response curve. If you're lucky, this might be the case for you. Why reverse a successful upgrade? I upgraded the crossover components in my KG-4's a long time ago and have no desire to go back to stock, the improvements in detail are too dramatic. The caps are worth nearly as much as the KG's. It's also possible that replacing your drivers could cost as much as the KG's are worth. Spend some time on the forum and you'll read about a lot of Khorn guys who've successfully swapped parts: Altec squackers, Beyma and JBL tweeters, crossovers, wiring. Only the 15" woofer defies change, it's quite an unusual beast! Just my 2 cents.
  24. What a close one! So glad to hear this turned out okay! God's tender mercy has gotten me through more scrapes than I care to remember. Take it easy, Max!
