  1. Even if you are not distributing your mp3's to others they are illegal if you did not pay for them(whether it be from a download service like Liquid audio or a physical copy like a CD). The way the music laws are written a resturant can not even play music without paying yearly dues to an orginization such as BMI or ASCAP. I'm not personally getting on you about this but technically they ARE ILLEGAL. Peace, Josh
  2. The RSW15 really has only one active 15" woofer, the other 15" is a passive radiator which is more or less just a fancy type of port. Even so it still has a large cone area. Peace, Josh
  3. Sure, I would love to see more fully horn loaded speakers on the market. Peace, Josh
  4. Here are some numbers I came across awhile back that I thought interesting. These were in the manual for the RA-100 studio monitor power amp by Alesis They also make some really nice sounding(imo) studio monitors . http://alesis.com/ Cable length that produces 1 dB of power loss at 4ohms at 8ohms wire gauge feet feet 6 1200 2425 8 800 1600 10 475 950 12 300 600 14 190 375 16 120 240 18 75 150 20 50 100 22 30 60 It would seem to me that there would be no problem using 16 gauge for a 25 foot run. Obviously the lower the resistance of the cable the more signal is going to be able to travel to the speakers from your amp. There are certainly many differing oppinions on speaker cable out there. Peace, Josh
  5. Hi, I believe it has been mentioned on the forum before that the "vertical" horns means it is actually a horizontal cabinet. I could be wrong though(somebody on here will know). Peace, Josh
  6. The advice on searching for mispellings seems to be pretty helpful. When I got my heresies I had previously done a search for "klipsch heresy" and come up with nothing that I wanted. Then I did a search of "klipsch" and came up with "Vintage Klipsch Hersey Speakers" Hmm, somebody lost an"E" somewhere along the line. It seem s to me that not a lot of people bid on the ones I got(which I outbid somebody by 1 cent for ) perhaps because the usual Heresy crowd didn't know they existed. Peace, Josh
  7. Don, What are the measurements on those stands? What size is the top plate, what size speaker could they hold?? Peace, Josh
  8. Hi, Just some of my thoughts. Check the speaker wire connections at your amp and on the terminals on the back of the speaker. Some copper speaker wires will corrode over time and the green build up is pretty non conductive. Making sure all of the electrical contacts would be my first plan of action. Try and see if you can borrow some other electronics(amplifier, CD player, etc.) this can rule out the possibility of your other equipment being the problem. As for the crossover leaking, if you carefully open the back of the speaker(just remove the screws around the edge and it should come right off) and take a look inside everything should look pretty clean. My heresies are from 1981 and though the outside is pretty beat up(they look as if they were dropped on their corners a couple of times) the inside is pristine. If there are any stains on or around the crossover block that may be your problem. Also check the connections inside the speaker if you have it open, the crossover has a strip of screw down terminals on it that should be clearly labeled as to what goes where(woofer- +, squawker- +, tweeter- +). As mentioned I would try the stuff outside the speaker before you go opening it up. Keep us posted as to what you find out. Peace, Josh
  9. Dean, I'll keep you and your family, especially your son in my prayers. Peace, Josh
  10. Hehe, I had some friends over to watch some movies back before christmas. We started out with Star Wars Episode II, running my heresies as mains, the jbl's as surrounds and the sc1 as center channel(I had nothing hooked up as sub). Right as it started up I realized we were about to be treated to the water droplet THX trailer so I cranked the volume up aways. When the sphere with the storm inside it burst the sound shook my apartment rather a lot as it was quite loud. One of my buddies turned and looked at me and said "D--- dude thats louder than a movie theater". I just smiled and said yep you're right and my spl meter proves it Peace, Josh
  11. ---------------- On 1/15/2003 8:11:22 PM swells wrote: I went home after listening to a $1,400.00 dollar set of B&W floor standing speakers with and without the asw-300, turned on my 19 year old amp amd 14 year old Heresy's, threw in an old junk cd, sat down my chair. Chucking to myself in delight of the sounds that I was hearing I tought, what could be better. Obviously it could be better, but this reminded me how nice this old system sounds. ---------------- Amen to that. Peace, Josh
  12. I had the pleasure of seeing Cyrus Chestnut a few years ago at a free outdoor venue in a park. Also at the same park I was able too see Nicholas Payton, a very talented jazz trumpet player. The atmosphere of sitting outside under the trees as the sun goes down and the day starts to cool off with some excellent jazz in the air. Those were some good times and the jazz made it all the better. Peace, Josh
  13. Ok I had some more thoughts about your new speakers, Man is that cool. It just hit me that those speakers could last you the rest of your life if you wanted them to. My klipsch and JBL speakers are from 1981 and they are going strong. A good set of speakers seems to me like it can be a good investment for a lifetime. Just don't listen too loud, once your hearing is gone you can't get it back. Peace, Josh
  14. Congrats on the speakers dude. I have not heard that many klipsch speakers, only the three that I own, John Albright's setup and some heresies at a park back home. I was going to check out what they had at tweeter while I was home for christmas but I was too busy. Those Reference speakers sure do look nice though, the cherry finish is a good choice. I'm sure you will let us know what they sound like when you get them Peace, Josh
  15. Hehe, I am feeling somewhat better, the sickness has passed and now I'm just trying to get my strength back. I am not sure how 2 bose cubes is supposed to make me feel better physicaly but it did make me laugh. Thanks for the comments guys and girl(cluless, surely you have more than one serious thought) One good thing to come out of this is the movie I got to watch at the hospital. It was a rather over the top take on the spaghetti western genre called "Dollar for the dead" What sucked however was that I was there long enough to watch an entire movie Peace, Josh
  16. I think a lot of people just use a "Y" adapter for the sub output on their amp. Peace, Josh
  17. Funky, Greatest funky real old, etc LOL Peace, Josh
  18. I guess I am a little late to the party but what exactly are these rug grippers people keep talking about?? Peace, Josh
  19. Hi and welcome to the forum, I personally have never heard any of the klipsch subs so I can't really say. However judging on what most people on hear say, the RSW line of subs is much more competent as far as speed and punch goes. Still $1000 is a big difference. btw, the heresies are not likely to be forgotten if I(or many others on here)have anything to say about it Peace, Josh
  20. I think that zip cord comment Marvel made was directed mainly at me. The reason I say this is because Marvel just happens to be my father. It was kind of a tease about upgrading because I was able to get a pair of klipsch before he did. And yes he really does use zip cord, but it sounds fairly good, or maybe I should say his JBL 4311 monitors do. Peace, Josh
  21. A little better as time goes by. I'm listening to some CCR on a cd a friend of mine gave me and it sounds great enough to almost make me forget my ills. Right now I'm just kinda worn out but feeling better. Thanks to all for the words of encouragement Lets hope that Justin manages to stay out of whatever hit his school. Peace, Josh
  22. All this talk about cables makes me wonder what I'm "missing" with my generic 12awg monsterXP cable. Certainly something I will have to leave alone for awhile due to my lack of budget. Still its something for me to think about. Peace, Josh
  23. Lynnm, I'm down in orlando. Still feelin pretty feeble today, hopefully things will get better. Peace, Josh
