  1. Richard, thanks for posting. I'm printing them off. I'm interested, as is my uncle about these speakers. He has some of the 60's EV's (Patricians and Stereons) that he's had since new as well!
  2. But, you do gain watts, I believe. If one person is running a 100 watt amplifier to the terminals w/ a jumper, and a 2nd person is running two of those same amps, 1 to the HF and 1 to the LF, the 2nd person is sending 200 watts total to the speaker. The way I understand it is that due to the ohms difference, the tweeter will be getting somthing less than 100 watts, the woofer something more than 100. Thats what I think I've gleaned from others here, hopefully they'll correct me if I've mis-stated this. I actually called klipshe tech support, and they don't recommend active crossovers, but their fine with running identical amps.
  3. If you're dropping off for awhile, can you send me any one of your subwoofers to remember by. As a matter of fact, I'de like to test your observations. Can you send them all to me?
  4. I have the heresy IIs on the slanted risers. I then secured those to a wood box that I bought at an unfirnished furniture store that is about 1 foot x 1 foot x 10 inches high. I actually feel more bass, enough that, if I didn't know they started fading at 65hz, I wouldn't believe it. I've had them for 14 years or so, and was very surprised. By screwing the risers in them, you add no holes to the speakers, and can easily go back and forth. Try it, I was very surprised. Del
  5. I'll put them on a diet of Bob Mould, that should remove any stretch marks! Actually, the steel wool is working. Reminds me once when I was steel wooling my raw heresy's...The steel wool remnants stuck to the back of the cabinet, straight up, due to the magnet. It was then I realized there was some serious magnetic force there.
  6. This place is addictive... Since I've been following it: New HT amp 2 new antique mono tube amps new HT preamp New RF7s All in 1.5 years. But I've given away the old stuff. Sold a Yamaha receiver and Infinity speakers. Also, I dug out my first tuner (a scott) that I've had since 8th grade and am using it again - almost tossed it years ago (unfortunately I did toss the matching integrated). Hell, I'm thinking about getting out my old Nak 582....But I've tossed my cassettes so I wouldn't know what to do with it. Anyway, I'de love to see those EV Ds! Please!
  7. Coytee, Can you post pictures of your EV's. I would love to see what they look like. I've seen some of the EV's from the late 50's and 60's, but am not familiar with your model.
  8. "It is for the people to decide" Jean Luc Demyer, Front 242. I use that a lot when I can.
  9. I hate MSRP. No matter what the product, you have to assume its 20%+ over inflated so their dealers can look like their having great sales. Its like buying a car at $7 over invoice. It doesn't mean alot if the invoice is inflated anyway (dealer incentives, etc).
  10. Nice one... I did really mean I felt 4 people in Alaska. That's why I'm in jail here in CT! I used to work for Rand McNally, you would think I would get the abbreviations correct...Wrong! Anyway...I bet some lost their jobs in Arkansas, whether manufacturing, accounting or other corporate. I hope I am wrong, but I guess my point was state to state moves generally hurt some employees.
  11. I just tried taking a few pictures, but the mark isn't distinguishable. It essentially looks like the effect you would get if polyeurothen had run (maybe it got to hot and the polyeurothene did just that). I've tried different angles with the camera and in different shades of light. I'll try a little more steel wool tonight and see what happens.
  12. Don't know better how to describe this. A door fell on my co-workers child, and I decided to batten down some of the heavier objects in my house. I used cloth/nylon straps on the RF7s to attach them to the wall. When we moved, I noticed that they left a mark where they were, it looks like the finish (cherry) melted. Its more noticable in sunlight. I took very fine steel whool to a small part and it seemed to work. Before going further, would this do any permanent damage to the finish (protective coating). Would any other type of product work (is there a wood rubbing compound? Thanks, Del (PS. due to speaker placement, I no longer need the straps. Thanks for any suggestions.
  13. A president will not control job movement without major restructuring. All I ask for is fairness in trade. If we immediately penalize those countries unfair trade practices (*** for bigger tat) we will win, though we may have some higher prices here. I hope klipsch RF is made in US. I've tried to keep my stereo US built (HK Pre, Adcom power, heresy/RFs - when I replace my old sony cd it will be US built - if there are any. I lived in IN, just moved to CT, I thought it was really cool klipsch opened up their indy location, though I feel for the people (if any) in AK that may have been displaced. Movement across states hurts people every bit as much as moving overseas, it just balances out more.
  14. I believe their stuff may did in the US is very good. A lot of their later preamps were made in Asia, and suffered from quality (sodder, connections). This seemed especially true with their early HT preamps. Their US made amps that were made in the US are tanks, sound great,(though maybe on the bright side for some). GFA535,45,55 etc are all US. My 7400 is as well (1999 or so), but I think sometime after (or during that model run) things got shifted overseas, where the trouble started. I've not heard the 5000 series. They did make an excellent straight line controller (passive device to use between source components and amp) if you want to completely bypass a pream.
  15. I made the lights flicker violently in college, in rather large rooms with lots of people. I'm 36 now, and I still use the amp for surrounds. No, I'm not deaf, but I don't do that anymore Though I sometimes miss the days when I could!
  16. I've run the adcoms (7400 and 545) on both RF and Heresy's. They're excellent on the RF 7s. THe only time they seemed harsh on the heresy's was when pushing to their limits (at the point where the adcom lights were flicking violently, which would have also been pushing the limits of the heresy's, given their only rated at 100 watts).
  17. If you had back to back rooms, you could seal off the 1 room and turn it into a giant speaker!
  18. My HT rig lacks matching center and sub. I'm 80% music, 18% kids movies, 2% movies I actually like. My quandry: Can't justify a good center and surrounds for 2% of listening. I'm going for a better sub for music.
  19. I don't own the patrician's but my uncle owns the Patrician 800's and uses a Mac 240. It is the most fantastic system I have ever heard. He has used 2 different Mac preamps 1 tube, 1 ss depending on his mood I guess.
  20. I just heard Rainbow's Man on the Silver Mountain" on a Coor's commercial. That's funny. I hear Moby on tv commercials and the cure on an HP commercial. Cure is not new, but not boomer music either. I've heard others as well. I find myself buying more used cd's than new. With people buying cds for 1-2 songs, they end up in the used bins quite a bit. I wonder how much that cuts out of the music companies' profits. Now sometimes 1/3 of the stores (non-mall) are dedicated to used cds. There should be no pitty for anyone in the record business, including the big artists. They're very quick to complain about big business and "the man". These artists are the epitimy of big business. They are the man. Pearl Jam complaining about ticket master?? (don't get me wrong, I do too, but in the end I still buy the tickets (not to pearl jam)!. Pearl Jam (and Metallica, U2,...) are big business. We don't feel sorry for the (banking, insurance, auto, name your industry) when they have hard times. WHy the music industry feels that if they're having a hard time due to there own policies, the govt should fix it is beyond me. People thought etoys.com was going to put an end to Toys R Us. Toys R Us didn't go to the govt and whine or attack their customers, they fought back. I turn over the soap box...
  21. Many, but the most irritating in the rock era is the southern boogie bands: Leanard Skynard (sp) 38 special Molly fricken Hatchet (omp ba bidi a dom bab boo???) what the hell is that?? There are more, I just get too worked up trying to remember them. dgb...I agree with the legends - they shouldn't be. All bubble gum/candy a$$.
  22. Thanks. Explaining that the impedence is causing the amp to work less anyway helps me understand why the active would not help. It sounds great the way it is, I just thought if I could get the amps working even less, I would have just that much more umph. I don't need it, but thought if it was an inexpensive mod, then I'de do it. Sounds like its done already, I have the jumpers removed. Thanks everyone who helped me finally understand (as much as I need to know). And, for helping me save money that I can put to the sub!
  23. I should have explained better what I'll be doing. I'll use 2 of these dbx crossovers. I'll have one set at about 2500, sending everything below this to the amp supplying the RF7 LF terminals (ie, 300 "extra" hz). I'll have the other crossover set to 1800, sending everything above this to the amp supplying the HF terminals (and extra 400 hz to the tweeter). The speaker's crossovers will get everything they need (or I'll adjust both up and down to be "safe". My main goal is to get the amps to work less so each only has to waste a few hz. I had asked a question that TBrennan answered for me in a previous thread, but the realized I kind of hijacked that one, so I started this one. I do understand the whole octave and slope thing a lot better now, so thanks everyone. Hope this is a little more clear. IN the end, I think the speaker will be getting everything it is intended, and nothing more.
  24. Thanks DeanG. I'll make sure I cut the freq high enough, and use to xovers to hopefully avoid this. If it doesn't sound right, I'll just throw them on ebay. Thanks for responding.
  25. You're a lucky man. I found a similar deal last year Cherry RF7s in the box for $1350, dealer in bankruptcy. I jumped on those, but like a fool, walked away from the cherry RC-7 for $490 in the box. Oh well, 5050. Go get them before someone else does. Do they have a cherry RC7. IF they do, let me know. I'll call and ask them to ship it!
