  1. My thoughts exactly!... [8-|]
  2. Yes, they do have a crossover on the inside. I can think of several possibilities. You may be over driving them... I'm not sure of your reciever's power rating nor the volume you are listing to it, but you may be clipping the amp, sending distortion to the tweeter. This can also be accentuated if you reciever has a room correction that has boosted high frequencies. I'd also look for any loose connections... it is possible that the bass is shaking one of those connectors. I've had it happen to to a tweeter connector at the crossover on a Khorn. Unfortunately I'm not sure of the crossover location on the KF26's, but it may be installed behind speaker connectors (on the inside of the cabinet). Good luck.. ROb
  3. So many gret micro-brews now-a-days ... But I agree.... Unibroue put out some really nice beer... Favs include Chambly Noire and Don de Dieu... )
  4. Check out the review of the reviews at ConsumerSearch... http://www.consumersearch.com/washing-machine-reviews/review
  5. Gas dropped the equivalent of 30¢ these last couple of days here... so I just filled up on premium at 5.61$... [:|] Still cheaper than what I paid in Italy 2 months ago... []
  6. Just a little update.... When I spoke to the manufacturer, iOmega, we ran a couple of tests on the NAS prior to the second drive failure, and they indicated that there may be an issue with the units chipset. Unfortunately the unit is no longer under warranty because I did not read the "fine print" when buying it... 3yr warranty only if the unit is registered within 90days... otherwise its a 1yr warranty. It uses Seagate drives which, when purchased directly, automatically come with 3yr warranties themselves. Yet, since I did not register it within the delay, the hardware warranty expired (the data is never covered, of course). In my opinion any hardware failure within 2yrs is suspect... and I got lucky that the tech at iOmega agreed, and after a bit of negotiation, activated the 3yr coverage from the date of original manufacture for me. So I've got the hardware covered now... all that is left is getting the data off of the thing. Short and sweet. [] Just need to boot the computer from Linux somehow. Exactly... [] ...and following your advise, I downloaded a uBuntu ISO and booted from it over the weekend. Looks pretty slick... and impressive that it all runs off a CD including browser, word processor, spreadsheet, etc... programs. The current issues is it sees, and accesses the windows drive without a problem... but the linux drive I tested so far only appears as a undefined "array" (two partitions) that I can't access. I have three drives in all, two originals, and a third I bought to replace the first failed HD. I'll try another of those drives this week... I don't know if any of the drives has a full, uncorrupted, data set... but does anyone know of a Linux data recovery software (that hopefully has some sort of GUI)? Thanks... ROb
  7. What do your baseboards look like?.... A multipart moulding assembly can replicate standard trim while leaving a hollow space to feed wires through. It something we see in historical buildings with varied wall materials (like exposed brick walls) that prohibits feeding the wires through the wall. ROb
  8. Thanks... I hadn't noticed the LiveCD version of Ubuntu when i glanced over their website... I will give it a try and post back on here. They also have a "data recovery" page, but i haven't had a chance to read over it (work has been keeping me toooo busy)... As far as i know, there haven't been any major "power" issues in my area... so i've still got my fingers crossed... ROb
  9. Totally unrelated to audio... My NAS (network attached storage) crashed... and both drives which were in RAID appear as “failed”. Given the unlikelihood of both drives failing within a couple of days of each other, I suspect that it’s the NAS controller (HDD or RAID) that’s failed. Hopefully I’ll be able to retrieve the files off the drives, but I don’t know at this time. I do have a backup of my important data on a separate external drive, but I never bothered backing up any media (pictures, music, films)... and therefore I’d like to attempt a recovery attempt. Unfortunately I did not have time to get the files off after the failure of the first drive yet before the failure of the second one. The NAS is / was a iOmega Storcentre, with a couple of Seagate SATA drives I believe are formatted in Linux Ext3. I don’t have any Linux machines, nor any working knowledge with the OS, but I do have a Windows XP desktop kicking around with a couple of spare SATA inputs. What I was wondering, is there an easy way to read the info off Linux drive in the Windows machine, and temporarily transfer the files over? I was considering a software like DiskInternals Linux Reader… or are there any other better alternatives? I’m hoping for something quick and easy... but who isn’t?…[] Thanks in advance... ROb
  10. Just noticed the slogan recently as well... Tempted to buy some gear with it ... http://www.cafepress.com/klipsch ... )
  11. I had not been there for way too long, priceless!...
  12. Ha... the GLHS Dodge Omni.... [] Even if the 80's hasn't yet gotten the collectable attention as the 60-70's ... the good old GLHS (Goes Like Hell Some-more... seriously []) managed a 0-60 in only ±6.7 seconds, and a ±14.7 quarter-mile at ±94 mph... which was / is pretty d@mn good. In an odd way, it follows the "muscle car" mentality quite well in stuffing as much horsepower as possible into a lightweight body, at an affordable price. The big difference though, was both those numbers (hp and lbs) are smaller. RIP Carroll...
  13. Peter... you are one patient man... it took forever for them to get it out to you... talk about building suspence... [] Looks great... So tell me... well worth the 1650$? Biggest noticeable differences (contrast, detail, colours, brightness, etc…)? ROb
  14. I totally agree with you Art... I've been a long time fan of using subwoofers for music, it really does bring another dimension to good recordings. The irony, i found is that it's excentuated the differences in the recordings (rolled off -vs- good -vs- boomy)... I'm sure it'll prove quite usefull for your own mixes. ROb
  15. Hey Art... How have you been?… You’ve been getting pretty good advice already... Because of the low distortion and deep extension possible, I to went the same route as Carl, with an IB using six 15” inch drivers which is open to a large semi-finished storage space. Rather than compromises, it’s using physics in your favour... http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/64932.aspx?PageIndex=12 Since I was building the room ground up at the time I opted for this, I managed to wrap it around my center channel (which I’ve recently built a Cornscala variation). If ever you want to go this route, I agree with maximizing the number of drivers to maximize extension with minimal distortion. ROb
  16. I went through something quite similar right around the same time (shortly after him), and I'm quite thankful to him as he helped me out quite a bit back then. I guess life is filled with different chapters... 8) ROb
  17. Thanks for that post Fish… I guessing that quote was from this Sound and Vision article... http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/test-report-anthem-mrx-700-av-receiver The actual review reads quite positive despite those odd findings… I’m curious to your feedback allgonoshow as I’m intrigued by the ARC software yself... My understanding was that the Blu-ray consortium stopped allowing HD Audio to be output on analog outputs RCA on units designed after a certain 2011 date… so it’ll become more and more of a mute point in the long run. 18. Price aside, what puts the Anthem or Arcam ahead of the Marantz.....? In my opinion, Anthem does have the ARC advantage (which is worth more than just a bell or whistle or two)... Can you audition these in your area? I've been wanting to try that Marantz head to head versus an Anthem MRX , but have not yet made the time (so far, I've only discussed the possibility with a dealer . Maybe we can get Carl (CECAA850) to post his experiences on this. ROb
  19. From the pricing perspective, I'm guessing we are talking about a combination of: law of diminishing marginal returns country of fabrication brand equity prestige pricing I like wiki's definition of prestige pricing: Premium pricing (also called prestige pricing) is the strategy of consistently pricing at, or near, the high end of the possible price range to help attract status-conscious consumers. The high pricing of premium product is used to enhance and reinforce a product's luxury image. Examples of companies which partake in premium pricing in the marketplace include Rolex and Bentley. As well as brand, product attributes such as eco-labelling and provenance (e.g. 'certified organic' and 'product of Australia') may add value for consumers[1] and attract premium pricing. A component of such premiums may reflect the increased cost of production. People will buy a premium priced product because: They believe the high price is an indication of good quality; They believe it to be a sign of self worth - "They are worth it;" it authenticates the buyer's success and status; it is a signal to others that the owner is a member of an exclusive group; They require flawless performance in this application - The cost of product malfunction is too high to buy anything but the best - example : heart pacemaker. AV Processors become obsolete so quickly, I'd be hesitant to dump a load of $... esp given what they sell used after only a couple of years. But that is just me... ROb
  20. My girlfriend calls me daddy... but in my case I thought it would be inappropriate forum name... [:$] ... so I used the Botswana word for the "bearer of good sound" ... Still got that Rotus? ROb
  21. Seems like most people around here sell it by “face cord” ... I use very little, and paid about 90$ split and delivered in an urban setting... although I see it advertised under 75$ in the suburbs. I don’t know for the boon-docks. Since it’s technically 1/3 of an actual cord (16” vs 48”) … means it varies between 225$-270$ around my parts. ROb
