  1. I agree with Roger except I'd prefer upgraded crossovers to stock in most cases. They can be pricey and especially with older models, it's something you will need to do anyway. We've had this discussion many times on the forum and while they might sound better than the originals to some or even most, many folks like to start with the real thing then mod them to their liking. I personally don't consider those Klipsch speakers anymore.
  2. IMO, the Atlantic LP is more polished and quite frankly, more boring than the other LPs. Not that it's bad, but the others have this great live, gritty, garage sound to them. They're really good LPs and give you that "being there" feel to them if you know what I mean.
  3. I'm glad to see you guys supporting Von. Here's a guy who could have been huge but wouldn't leave his hometown for the big city. I had the pleasure of seeing him live a few years ago in Chicago with Allan, Boomac and Artto. That was a LONG night from what I remember! He was amazing, especially considering he was pushing 80. Let me know what you guys think when you get your CDs. He's recorded quite a few albums in the past 10 years but you'll have to settle for his older stuff if you want it on vinyl. Not easy to find either.
  4. Thanks. Wish I still was. One of the biggest audio mistakes I made was selling the Belles. Coming soon will be the 4th pair of Klipsch I've had in that room. It's amazing how your ears can adjust to a pair of speakers. I still prefer the Corns with certain music but overall, the Belles just took it to another level. Oh well, live and learn. The 4 pairs I've had in that room in less than 2 years: '83 CWOs '98 Oak Belles '79 CBRs '74 CWO Verts - coming soon
  5. Happy belated birthday mi amigo!! Glad it ended on a high note.
  6. You can still swap the I/Cs on your TT. If you can solder, they can be replaced. The issue is,will it be worth the trouble and expense? If you have the cheap, skimpy I/Cs that sometimes come with vintage tables like Thorens TD160s and such, it will probably make a difference. If you already have some decent I/Cs on your table, I wouldn't bother. Glad things are working out!!
  7. You have kids, raise them the best you can, teach them right from wrong, hope they learn by example, then pray you haven't totally screwed them up.[:S]
  8. After refusing to put our son on meds for 2 years, we finally gave in when he was in the 7th grade. Once we did, he became an honor student almost overnight and never got into any trouble from then on. He confessed a couple years later that he hated the meds so much he only pretended to take them after a couple weeks. When given the option, he overcame his ADHD with sheer will power. He is now an extremely successful 27 year old professional in NYC. Meds are right for some kids but there are other options. Glad to hear your family's success story John. That's terrific!
  9. I'll be heading to the same north as Thebes that weekend. Have fun!
  10. Like this: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/132044.aspx How cool! Thanks Amy.
  11. Post pictures! Condition? Veneer? Location? It all matters. Do some searching here and you'll get an idea. You'll probably have to split it up unless you get real lucky and find someone local who will take it all. Good luck.
  12. Yes. U = 1980 and W = 1981 They skipped V because it was too confusing. They should have skipped S because everyone confuses it with 5.
  13. My Sony is fine with movies but totally blows when it comes to music although music videos aren't bad. I have an older DA5ES and a lot of cables. I use a switchbox so I can play music through a 2-channel tube amp. It's like comparing a live concert to a transistor radio. I was heartbroken when I first got the Sony thinking I could use it for everything.
  14. My Cornwalls are 12' apart on a 23' wall. I toe them in just a little and get amazing imaging. I've always preferred Cornwalls to Fortes or Chorus but I know at least one or two people who disagree.
  15. Welcome to the forum Dirk. No need to worry about hurting anyone's feelings here. The ratio of Khorns to Palladium owners here is about 1,000 to 1. Anyway, we welcome all opinions. The 60th's are REALLY special, even for Khorns. I agree, go with the loud ones! I have my Khorns in a less than perfect room and they sound terrific. Congrats and keep us posted.
  16. This is the one I have. It was only $35 or less originally. It's quite amazing. http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/38485/Jimi_Hendrix-Axis_Bold_As_Love-200_Gram_Vinyl_LP Now there are a bunch to choose from. This might be worth a try: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/64177/Jimi_Hendrix-Axis_Bold_As_Love-Vinyl_LP_with_Damaged_Cover Or you could wait for this: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/65680/Jimi_Hendrix-Axis_Bold_As_Love-180_Gram_Vinyl_LP Assuming of course you like this particular LP......
  17. I have a bunch of originals and one new pressing. I bought the 200 gram Japanese pressing (Universal) of Axis Bold As Love, by far my favorite Hendrix LP. I also have a NM original. The original sounds excellent. The reissue, amazing. It depends on what you're after. I like to own the best available. Others aren't as picky. Last I looked, there was a copy of the 200 gram version in the scratch n dent section on Elusive Disc's website. Universal also came out with a 180 gram version. I'm sure it's amazing also and slightly less expensive. Once they're gone, good luck finding a used copy. At $30-$35, a NM original isn't going to be much cheaper. Maybe even more expensive. I haven't looked.
  18. Maybe they saved some from this 1980 batch[]:
  19. I'd very much like to but can't commit. Of course Larry would have to drive.[] Thanks!
  20. I also had the X-100 which is the Scott 299 equivalent, power-wise (15-17 wpc??). It is tube rectified. I had Craig rebuild it for me so I've had a Fisher X-100, a Scott 299 and a Scott 299b, all 3 rebuilt by Craig. The 299b sounded best of the three to me but my 299b is a uniquely nice unit with the larger transformers. I think the X-100 and the 299 were a toss-up, depending on personal preference and tube choice. I wish I still had the Fisher.
  21. If you plan to use the Cornwalls exclusively for music and not for Home Theater, avoid all Home Theater types of recievers!! Most just sound crappy. Assuming you want to keep things on the simple side and not get into tube equipment, buy a decent mid-70s receiver. There are a lot to choose from and almost all will make the Cornwalls sing. I used a mid-70s Kenwood for 20 years and would still be happily using it if I never came across this forum. Do some searching here and just make sure you buy something that you know is in good working condition. There are so many available, you might want to find something local so you can check it out for yourself. Don't waste money on speaker wire. Home Depot 12 gauge is more than adequate. You can buy it by the foot. Make sure you have decent RCA interconnects. Don't waste money on Monster brand but buy something better than the cheapo stuff that comes with a DVD player. Best Buy or Radio Shack will have some decent yet inexpensive I/Cs in the $20 range for a 1 meter pair. Good luck and welcome to the forum. I look forward to your pictures!
  22. I have never cared much for any of the Klipsch mid horns. I have owned Khorns, La Scala's, Cornwalls, Heresy's, Chorus', Chorus II's and Epic CF2's, and the exponential horns all sounded compressed and *** to me when applying some volume (the Chorus and Epic are tractrix). When I ran the La Scala's it was with Altec 511B's, which was a major improvement over the K400. The V-Trac with the BMS drivers puts the mids in another universe. You can like the PWK sound all you want (and I appreciate and respect that), but if you are looking for the best sound you can get out of the speaker I would suggest you look at some of the other alternatives. Mike I look forward to hearing some of the newer alternatives. I still say it ain't Klipsch anymore but I'd very much like to hear all this midrange I've been missing. I have no doubt your new setup sounds amazing. It should for the price! One thing folks must realize though is not everyone listens at the same volume. I know what Mike means when he says "applying some volume" and I almost never listen at those levels.[:|]
  23. I'm almost positive Max has an outer ring on his table. If you are really interested and want a first hand opinion, you might want to shoot him a pm or email. If he doesn't, one of his audio group friends almost certainly does. They are serious about their vinyl rigs in Greece!
  24. I have to agree with Mark on this. I fell in love with the Klipsch sound when I bought my Cornwalls in 1980. You can change that sound by replacing components but it will no longer sound like a Klipsch Heritage product. Some will like it better, possibly most, but others prefer the PWK sound (like me). Congrats on the VRDs! When I replaced my MkIIIs with VRDs, the sound of each instrument widened three-fold. Craig builds amazing amps. You will enjoy them for many years to come!
